Later on in the week we ran a full day of orienteering in Buxton Pavilion Gardens. The morning saw nearly 100 nursery, reception and KS1 pupils exploring the park on a hunt for Halloween pictures. There were even more children in the afternoon with 140 pupils from Y1-4 out in force enjoying the fresh air, freedom and beautiful Autumn colours. Page 3 Playground leader Training Update Team HPSSP have been very busy this half term delivering Playground Leader training to 246 children from 10 different schools across the High Peak, with a further 9 schools booked in for November. The training is available to all affiliated schools and works best for around 20 Year 5 pupils who would like to start their journey on the leadership pathway. Delegating roles with- in school can help you with your School Games Mark accreditation. If you’d like to book us to come to your school please email [email protected] and we’ll book you in on a day to suit you. Rugby MegaFest— Fintastic time with Sharky! After a cancellation back in September due to the rain, the Rugby Megafest went ahead on Monday 21 October. 8 schools from across the High Peak gathered to take part in lots of fun challenges including Rugby Rounders and Rugby Netball. Children learned news skills in a great atmosphere of fun and support. Volunteers from Glossop Rugby Club and Manchester Metropolitan University gave the children the confidence to have a go at new things. There were a number of prizes up for grabs too - Player of the Festival, Most Improved Player and most “fair and generous” player. The Spirit of the Games Award for Passion was awarded to Dove Holes Primary - not only did they receive a trophy and certificate but Sharky, the Sale Sharks Mascot, presented them with the opportunity to take their team to watch a match at the stadium. Thanks to Glossop Rugby Club and all the volunteers for a fantastic afternoon. Page 4 HPSSP Autumn 2019 Fanciful Feet at the Mini Messi’s Soccer Finals On 23 October, Glossopdale School along with Glossop North End Juniors FC hosted and ran the High Peak Mini Soccer Finals. Great standards across all the matches with the scores as follows: Small Schools: 1st - Padfield, 2nd - All Saints/St Mar- garet's and 3rd - St Georges. Boys: 1st - Simmondley, 2nd - New Mills and 3rd - Buxton Juniors. Girls: 1st - Buxton Juniors, 2nd - Padfield and 3rd - Buxworth. Thanks so much to Glossopdale School for hosting, the Glossop North End Leadership Academy leaders for all their hard work and to Jon Matthews for all his organisation before and on the day. Well done and good luck to all the winners as they go on to represent the High Peak at the county finals next month. Page 5 Sharing Good Practice—Dinting Tag Rugby As part of on-going Platinum preparations at Dinting Primary the school ran an intra-school Tag Rugby Tournament. Each house group represented a team in the Rugby World Cup: England, New Zealand, Wales & South Africa. The children enjoyed the afternoon playing in the sun! In Year 3/4 Wales (red house group) won & in year 5/6 England (blue house group) won. This was developed in conjunction with the children at the school as it was their idea. PE Co-ordinator, Mike Halliwell, said it was a great opportunity for children to learn about other countries and their cultures as well as being physically active. If you want to highlight best practice in your school please let us know - we love to hear from you. Stand Up Derbyshire #SUD On 28 September Stand Up Derbyshire #SUD took place with 11 schools (and nearly 2,000 pupils) from the High Peak being involved. The day was about being active for 50% of the time by undertaking active lessons – these included: Active Maths, English and Science, Daily Mile, deployment of Young Leaders at lunchtimes, Active Handwriting, Active Assemblies and SuperMovers. The High Peak schools taking part were: All Saints/St Margaret’s, Burbage, Buxton Juniors, Dinting, Peak Forest, Saint Marys (NM), Simmondley, Tintwistle, Whaley Bridge and Whitfield St James. By signing up they all received a comprehensive resource pack of activities. Well done to all involved. - Congratulations to Chapel High School Outstanding School Achievement Award The 2019 Derbyshire School Sport and Physical Activity Awards, run in partnership by the Derbyshire Schools’ Sports Association (DSSA), Derbyshire Active Schools Network (DASN) and Active Derbyshire, were held on October 15 at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield. Chapel High School was awarded the Outstanding School Achievement award. The school was recognised for its work to ensure all young people participate in sport and activity, are engaged and have achieved their personal best. The school had several teams perform well at district or county level or above, and has increased participation and offered opportunities for all. —Padfield Power! Y3/4 Gymnastics On Friday 11 October we held our Y3/4 Gymnastics competition at Glossop Leisure Centre with 11 teams taking part. The standards were incredibly high and everyone taking part did an amazing job. The top 2 teams were separated by just a 0.1 score! In 3rd place was Tintwistle, in 2nd place Hayfield and in first place Padfield. Padfield also won the Spirit of the Games Award for teamwork as they continually supported each other through the event. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Glossop Gymnastics Club who, as always, did an amazing job running the event. Our CPD Calendar for 2019-2020 has been sent out to all primary schools.
