ABSTRACT - Integration ofdata from various fields of investigation shows that the La Combette rock shelter was, at least during the Middle Palaeolithic , situated on the southern margin of a more northerly settlement area. The shelter appears to have been used several times as a refuge by small groups of hunters venturing into the southern reaches of a larger territory, so that they could exploit the resources offered by a mid-altitude mountain environment. PARTIE 1 POPULATION ET TERRITOIRES FICHE L’économie et les niveaux de vie 1.2 LES SPÉCIFICITÉS RÉGIONALES L’économie de la région PACA se redresse depuis 2016. Ainsi, de nombreux secteurs d’activités, dont la construction, connaissent un rebond. Cette amélioration se traduit par une augmentation de l’emploi et des créations d’entreprises et par une baisse du taux de chômage. La région PACA se caractérise par d’importantes disparités de revenus et de niveaux de vie : elle se situe ainsi au 2e rang métropolitain pour ce qui concerne les écarts de revenus disponibles par unité de consommation derrière l’Île-de-France et à égalité avec Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Ainsi, si la région présente un revenu disponible médian intermédiaire par rapport aux autres régions (elle se situe au 8e rang), elle se place au 12e rang pour les revenus du 1er décile (834 € mensuel) et au 3e rang pour les revenus du 9e décile (3 122 € mensuel). Le taux de pauvreté y est donc élevé dans un contexte d’immobilier cher, difficilement accessible et d’une insuffisance du nombre des logements locatifs sociaux. Exploiting exogenous regional variations in the adoption of steam engines across France, the study establishes that in contrast to conventional wisdom that views early industrialization as a predominantly deskilling process, the industrial revolution was conducive for human capital formation, generating broad increases in literacy rates and education attainment.
