(August 2012) Evleen Michelle Nasir, B.A., Texas A&M University Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Kirsten Pullen There is a discursive formation of incapability that surrounds senior women’s sexuality. Senior women are incapable of reproduction, mastering their bodies, or arousing sexual desire in themselves or others. The senior actresses’ I explore in the case studies below insert their performances of self and their everyday lives into the large and complicated discourse of sex, producing a counter-narrative to sexually inactive senior women. Their performances actively embody their sexuality outside the frame of a character. This thesis examines how senior actresses’ performances of sexuality extend a discourse of sexuality imposed on older woman by mass media. These women are the public face of senior women’s sexual agency.

  • A Transcultural Perspective on the Casting of the Rose Tattoo
RSA JOU R N A L 25/2014 GIULIANA MUS C IO A Transcultural Perspective on the Casting of The Rose Tattoo A transcultural perspective on the film The Rose Tattoo (Daniel Mann, 1955), written by Tennessee Williams, is motivated by its setting in an Italian-American community (specifically Sicilian) in Louisiana, and by its cast, which includes relevant Italian participation. A re-examination of its production and textuality illuminates not only Williams’ work but also the cultural interactions between Italy and the U.S. On the background, the popularity and critical appreciation of neorealist cinema.1 The production of the film The Rose Tattoo has a complicated history, which is worth recalling, in order to capture its peculiar transcultural implications in Williams’ own work, moving from some biographical elements. In the late 1940s Tennessee Williams was often traveling in Italy, and visited Sicily, invited by Luchino Visconti (who had directed The Glass Managerie in Rome, in 1946) for the shooting of La terra trema (1948), where he went with his partner Frank Merlo, an occasional actor of Sicilian origins (Williams, Notebooks 472). Thus his Italian experiences involved both his professional life, putting him in touch with the lively world of Italian postwar theater and film, and his affections, with new encounters and new friends. In the early 1950s Williams wrote The Rose Tattoo as a play for Anna Magnani, protagonist of the neorealist masterpiece Rome Open City (Roberto Rossellini, 1945). However, the Italian actress was not yet comfortable with acting in English and therefore the American stage version (1951) starred Maureen Stapleton instead and Method actor Eli Wallach.

La Méthode de l’Actors Studio : Genèse, Pratique et Phénoménologie Ivan MAGRIN-CHAGNOLLEAU, CNRS Aix Marseille Univ, CNRS, PRISM, Marseille, France 1. Introduction 1.1.

  • UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT SOUTHERN DISTRICT of NEW YORK BRETT GOLDBERG, Plaintiff, -V- PACE UNIVERSITY, Defendant. 20 Civ. 36
Case 1:20-cv-03665-PAE Document 40 Filed 04/21/21 Page 1 of 29 UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK BRETT GOLDBERG, Plaintiff, 20 Civ. 3665 (PAE) -v- OPINION & ORDER PACE UNIVERSITY, Defendant. PAUL A. ENGELMAYER, District Judge: In spring 2020, confronted with the spread of COVID-19, undergraduate and graduate schools across the country rapidly transitioned to online instruction, to protect students, faculty, and staff. In response, students at many schools have brought suit, generally sounding in breach of contract, to recover tuition and fees paid for, purportedly, in-person experiences. Although some courts have construed these claims as impermissible claims of educational malpractice, others have sustained such claims, finding it well-pled that the college or university breached a specific and enforceable contractual promise that learning or other services would be in-person. Plaintiff Brett Goldberg (“Goldberg”) is a performing arts graduate student. He sues Pace University (“Pace”) to recover damages in connection with Pace’s transition to remote learning in March 2020 in light of the pandemic. Goldberg alleges that Pace breached its contract with him by transitioning his last semester to remote learning, postponing the production of his play, and retaining certain fees. He also brings claims for unjust enrichment and promissory estoppel, and a claim under New York General Business Law (“GBL”) § 349. Case 1:20-cv-03665-PAE Document 40 Filed 04/21/21 Page 2 of 29 Now pending is Pace’s motion for judgment on the pleadings, under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 12(c), for failure to state a claim.

Taking their cue from the original book town, Hay-on-Wye, in Wales, rural French communities once in danger of disappearing have reclaimed their economic future and their heritage. Founded in 1961, Hay-on-Wye has served as a model for other towns to establish a used book trade, organize literary festivals, and promote the practice of traditional book arts that include calligraphy, binding, paper-making, and printing. In the French villages du livre of Bécherel (Bretagne), Montolieu (Languedoc), Fontenoy-la-Joûte (Lorraine), Montmorillon (Poitou-Charentes), and La Charité-sur-Loire (Bourgogne), ancillary enterprises such as museums, bookstores, cafés, and small hotels now occupy buildings that had stood vacant for years.

PROMAX/BDA ANNOUNCES DIVERSE AND PROVOCATIVE EARLY LINEUP OF SPEAKERS FOR 53 RD ANNUAL CONFERENCE Reverend Jesse Jackson, Futurist Nicholas Negroponte, Host of Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio James Lipton and Hustler TV President Michael Klein Los Angeles, CA – April 2, 2008 – Promax/BDA has confirmed a diverse and relevant early lineup of speakers for its 53 rd annual Promax/BDA Conference (June 17-19, New York). Poised to address a wide range of timely and potentially provocative subjects are the Reverend Jesse Jackson, futurist Nicholas Negroponte, executive producer/writer/host of Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio James Lipton, and Hustler TV president Michael Klein. The announcement was made today by newly ensconced Promax/BDA President Jonathan Block-Verk, who promised to deliver a conference that would both inspire, inform and impact the business operations of this year’s attendees. “This year’s Promax/BDA event is about delivering the insight and information that inspires unique ideas and opportunities that drive new revenues in the television business,” said Block-Verk. “We recognize that our constituents are faced with hard choices regarding the events they attend, and this year Promax/BDA is the conference that will send attendees back to their offices reinvigorated, energized and bursting with business ideas and marketing plans that build the bottom line.” With the 2008 election spawning history-making headlines and igniting passionate discussions of race, gender and leadership, one of America’s foremost civil rights and political figures, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, will participate in a live interview session hosted by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, during which he’ll discuss his views on such charged issues, as well as the blurring line between news and entertainment and the impact that has on global culture.
