The 24 GWh of energy generated per year will be used to power the City of Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and the buildings of the Anne Arundel County schools. ANNAPOLIS, Md., Sept. 11, 2018 - Building Energy S.p.A., a multinational company operating as a globally integrated IPP (Independent Power Producer) in the renewable energy industry, and Building Energy Holding US, through its renewable energy subsidiary Annapolis Solar Park, announce the inauguration of its largest solar PV project built in North America. Built by EDF Renewables, the project is located on a closed landfill in the City of Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. With a capacity of 18 MW, the milestone was celebrated with an opening ceremony attended by the Mayor of Annapolis Gavin Buckley, the County Executive Steve Schuh, Building Energy Managing Director North America Andrea Braccialarghe, EDF Renewables Distributed Solutions CEO, Jamie Resor, a delegation of the Embassy of Italy represented by Maurizio Greganti, Deputy Chief of Mission, as well as different public authorities at the federal, state and municipal levels. “Annapolis Solar Park is the seventh renewable energy plant commissioned by Building Energy in the United States and the most important project in North America as it represents for Building Energy the largest PV Solar Project to start operations in the Country,” said Andrea Braccialarghe, Managing Director North America at Building Energy. “We are glad to celebrate this important company achievement in Annapolis with the whole community and their representatives that made it possible. With the Annapolis Solar Park going into operation, Building Energy is strengthening its presence in Maryland as well as its commitment to boost the development of the State’s renewable energy sector. We are planning to further expand our generation capacity in the State and in the Country, continuing to leverage on our multi-technology strategy with our commitment to environmental responsibility” The PV plant, which is expected to produce about 24 GWh of electricity annually, is supported by Power Purchasing Agreements for the sale of the entire energy generation for 20 years with the City of Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. The plant will also be supported by the sale of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). The investment for the construction of Annapolis Solar Park, which achieved full production at the end of June 2018, amounted to approximately 36 million US dollars. Thanks to the solar plant, the landfill, owned by the City of Annapolis, is now becoming a reliable source of revenue for the first time since it was closed in 1989. The project will also bring financial and environmental benefits to the City of Annapolis, ensuring long-term, fixed and predictable energy cost and CO2 emissions savings. The company has been present in the United States since 2013 with 63 MW operational and more than 100 MW of PV Solar and 200 MW of Wind farms under development. BUILDING ENERGY Building Energy is a multinational group of companies operating as a leading global Integrated IPP in the renewable energy sector. The company is vertically integrated and fully dedicated to the development, operation and sale of renewable energy across the world, with a presence in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Middle East. With a pipeline in 20 countries with over 2,600 MW that includes wind, solar, biomass and hydropower and a managed capacity from its owned assets of more than 700MW in the next 2 years, the Company is well positioned to be one of the major private players on the international scene in the renewable energy field. President Biden’s American Rescue Plan contains such assistance as part of an aggressive strategy to contain the virus, increase access to life-saving vaccines, and create a foundation for sustainable and inclusive recovery. American cities and our essential workers have been serving at the frontlines of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic for nearly a year. We have been charged with executing herculean public health efforts and an unprecedented emergency response. Despite immense fiscal pressure, your local government partners oversaw those efforts, while trying to maintain essential services and increase our internal capacity to provide support for residents and businesses who have been crippled by a tanking economy. And yet, as the economic engines of our country, local governments will be relied upon to lead the long- term economic recovery our nation so desperately needs, even as, with few exceptions, cities have been largely left without direct federal assistance.
