NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers are looking to put an end today to a nine-game winless streak (0-4-5) that began with a 1-0 loss to Minnesota on Nov. 11. During the streak the Flyers have lost beyond regulation five times, including a stretch of three consecutive overtime losses that had not happened before in franchise history. The Flyers have gone 10 games without a win on three occasions, with the last coming in February of 2008.

The Flyers will also be looking to regroup on the penalty kill after allowing at least one PPG in the last seven games. The PK has given up 11 goals on 33 shorthanded situations during that time (66.7 pct). Prior to that, it had gone 48-for-60 (80 pct) and allowed 12 goals in the previous 18 games.

The Flyers are outscoring opponents 46-36 at 5-on-5 this season, and the 36 goals against in 5-on-5 situations ties them with San Jose for fewest allowed in the league. In November, the Flyers allowed 28 even-strength goals, which was 12th fewest in the month; however, they only scored 29 total goals, which was third-fewest. The 14 PPG allowed tied with Pittsburgh for the most in the month.

The Flyers are tied with Nashville (entering last night’s games) for the best team faceoff percentage in the league at 53.0 pct. The Flyers have been 50 percent or better in 18 of their 25 games this season, and are the only NHL team to have five games of 60 percent or better. Claude Giroux (56.6 pct, 9th), Valtteri Filppula (55.5 pct, T-14th) and Sean Couturier (55.1 pct, T-18th) all rank among the top 20 in faceoffs this season.

Robert Hagg has recorded 87 hits on the season through 26 games. At 3.5 hits per game, he currently ranks in a tie for fifth-most hits per game by a rookie (min. 25 GP) in the entire NHL since the stat began to be tracked in 1997. The last rookie to complete a season with a hits-per-game rate higher than Hagg’s current rate was Radko Gudas, who recorded 273 hits over 73 games (3.7 per game) with Tampa Bay in 2013-14. Hagg was tied with three other players for second in the NHL in the category entering Friday night’s games.

Jakub Voracek has 7 goals and 23 assists for 30 points, which was tied for seventh in the league entering last night’s games. The 23 assists were tied for second most in the league. Voracek has a point in six of his last seven games, with three goals and six assists for nine points in that span.

Claude Giroux has 11 goals and 17 assists on the season and is part of a large group tied for 10th in the league in scoring. Giroux comes into the game on a five-game scoring streak, with two goals and five assists for seven points in that span. Voracek and Giroux were among four players tied for fifth with 21 even strength points.

Sean Couturier enters the game with 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points, leaving him one goal away from tying his career high for an entire season. Couturier has points in five of the last seven games, posting four goals and three assists in that span. He was tied for fourth in the NHL in goals entering last night’s games, and was tied for second with 23 even-strength points.
