Rojas La Chica Investigadora Centro Nacional de Estudios Históricos – Venezuela RESUMEN El pasado mes de agosto del año 2018, la audiencia internacional recibió con agrado el estreno de la comedia romántica Crazy Rich Asians (conocida en América Latina bajo el nombre de “Locamente millonarios”), un largometraje inspirado en el exitoso betseller homónimo escrito por Kevin Kwan (2013). Desde la puesta en circulación del primer tráiler, las redes sociales se llenaron de cientos de comentarios celebrando el estreno de una película que incluía, después de dos largas décadas, un talentoso reparto integrado por actrices y actores asiáticos. Tras su premier en Estados Unidos, la cinta Crazy Rich Asians se sumó a las banderas insignes de las campañas mediáticas que desde 2015 exigen mayor diversidad e inclusión en la industria cinematográfica controlada por Hollywood. Tales movimientos demandan la erradicación definitiva de los estereotipos e imágenes distorsionadas que desde otrora han discriminado al talento asiático, en beneficio de un catálogo blanco limpio de distintos matices y colores. Illig Introduction There exists today in America’s libraries and bookstores a superb if underappreciated resource for those interested in teaching or learning about business law. Academic historians and contemporary financial journalists have amassed a huge and varied collection of books that tell the story of how, why and for whom our modern business world operates. For those not currently on the front line of legal practice, these books offer a quick and meaningful way in. They help the reader obtain something not included in the typical three-year tour of the law school classroom—a sense of the context of our practice. Although the typical law school curriculum places an appropriately heavy emphasis on theory and doctrine, the importance of a solid grounding in context should not be underestimated. The best business lawyers provide not only legal analysis and deal execution. We offer wisdom and counsel. When we cast ourselves in the role of technocrats, as Ronald Gilson would have us do, we allow our advice to be defined downward and ultimately commoditized.1 Yet the best of us strive to be much more than legal engineers, and our advice much more than a mere commodity. When we master context, we rise to the level of counselors—purveyors of judgment, caution and insight. The question, then, for young attorneys or those who lack experience in a particular field is how best to attain the prudence and judgment that are the promise of our profession. For some, insight is gained through youthful immersion in a family business or other enterprise or experience. -
France Télécom-Orange and Publicis Groupe Decide to Launch a Venture-Capital Fund to Boost Development of the Digital Economy
France Télécom-Orange and Publicis Groupe decide to launch a venture-capital fund to boost development of the digital economy Paris, 7, November, 2011 - France Télécom-Orange [EURONEXT Paris : FR0000133308] and Publicis Groupe [EURONEXT Paris : FR0000130577] will announce today plans to launch a new venture capital fund. The fund will finance and develop budding entrepreneurs in the digital economy, particularly in France and the European Union, building on the sector’s potential for spectacular creativity and growth. It remains subject to the approval of the relevant authorities France Télécom-Orange and Publicis Groupe are committed to jointly investing 150 million euros in the new fund. In addition to their respective commitments, the two sponsors intend to invite other investors to join them, to reach a target of 300 million euros. The fund’s main targets for investment will be companies focusing on digital technology, content and services. Likely sectors include online marketing, e-commerce, mobile content and services, online gaming and social networks, as well as their associated technologies and infrastructures such as middleware, cloud computing, security, and online payments. The fund’s investments will be divided into three distinct categories. Seed-capital and early-stage investment will target fledgling companies in France and Europe, with investments of up to one million euros. Later-stage financing for more established companies in France and Europe will provide up to 15 million euros per project. Thirdly, at a later time the fund may also opt to invest in start-ups outside Europe, alongside American or Asian partner funds. The new fund will be operated by a management company, with investment decisions made by an Investment Committee independent of both France Télécom-Orange and Publicis Groupe.
