The Gospel today beautifully invites us to reflect on honesty and true wealth. Jesus says, “No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon.” Once again, we are invited to pledge ourselves completely to the living God. It makes a bit more sense now when we read in the Old Testament lines such as, “I am a jealous God” (Exodus 34:14). God is not jealous for the sake of being jealous, rather He is jealous for us! To think that the Eternal God desires us exactly as we are. And so, when He says we cannot serve God and mammon, He is offering us what He offered the Israelites in the desert and even more. He offers us eternal bliss with Him. And all of this begins now, wherever we may find ourselves. Jesus asks for a complete and clear “yes” to Him every day. Service to Him is not sad or denigrating, rather it is true freedom because serving Him is serving true life. This Sunday we are once more inviting everyone to commit to a weekly hour of adoration in our St. John Paul II Adoration Chapel. We are so grateful to the many people who have already committed and spend this set time with the Lord every week. If you have never signed up for an hour or maybe fell out of the habit, I invite you to consider once again a weekly holy hour. St. John Paul II famously said, “Men are made saints in front of the Eucharist.” It can be a large commitment, especially amidst the busyness of daily life, but I invite you in the midst of this, to ask the Lord if now is the time that He is inviting you to spend an hour with Him in adoration. If you have concerns, please talk to our representatives who can share their own experiences of committing to a weekly holy hour. Whether or not now is the time that you are able to spend a weekly hour in front of the Eucharist, I invite you to join me in your daily prayer for some specific intentions. Firstly, that the Lord would continue to guide all parishioners at St. Joan of Arc into a deeper relationship with Himself. Secondly, that he would give each of us an evangelical heart that desires to share the Gospel daily. And thirdly, I would ask that you pray for the young people of St. Joan of Arc whom the Lord is inviting to follow Him in the priesthood or religious life. Thank you and have a great week! As always, know of my prayers for each of you. In Christ, Fr. Connealy WELCOME VISITORS We are happy to have you join us today and every Sunday. You enrich our Masses by your presence and your participation. We hope that you find our liturgies here to be an inspiring celebration of our faith. Please come back again…and often. THE 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 22, 2019 DID YOU KNOW … By Fr. Cruz The Greek recitation of the Kyrie eleison is a fervent petition for mercy to the triune God. Since the eighth and eleventh century, invoking the Divine Mercy nine consecutive times developed in the liturgy. This is modeled after a Trinitarian pattern. Invoked first, the Father by the Kyrie eleison. Then the Son is invoked by the Christe eleison. Finally, the Holy Spirit by the third Kyrie eleison. The sixfold Kyrie we hear today has a preference in Roman Missal, but the ninefold is still permissible. (Now you do!!!)
