JEFF IRWIN C H A I R **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 14, 2019 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Building. __________________________________________________________________________________________ The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4296 (Rep. Filler) with recommendation and immediate effect. 2. Reported SB 257 (Sen. Chang) with recommendation and immediate effect. 3. Testimony regarding SB 114 (Sen. Lucido). __________________________________________________________________________________________ The Chairman called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang, and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to adopt the meeting minutes from May 9, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman brought up HB 4296. The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding HB 4296: Matt Miner, Michigan Creditors Bar Association – oppose. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. VanderWall to report HB 4296 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chairman moved to recommend immediate effect for HB 4296. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chairman brought up SB 257. The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 257: Mary Pollock, American Association of University Women – support. Kathy Hagenian, Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence – support. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Chang to report SB 257 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chairman Lucido, Sen.(s) VanderWall, Barrett, Johnson, Runestad, Chang and Irwin Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chairman moved to recommend immediate effect for SB 257. Without objection, immediate effect was recommended. The Chairman summarized SB 114 for the committee.
