Polish President Andrzej Duda expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to fire upon the Shayrat Air Base in response to Syria’s use of chemi- cal weapons against civilians. Dozens of people, including children, were killed in the regime’s assault. “In the face of this act of unimaginable barbarity, the civilized world could not remain indifferent,” Duda said in a statement. “Poland strongly condemns crimes committed against ci- vilians and calls on the entire international community to engage even more strongly in the restoration of peace in Syria, to stop the madness of war and interrupt the spiral of violence.” POLAND HAS REJECTED SUGGESTIONS that it may be punished politically and financially by the European Union for not accepting refugee/migrants. After hordes of migrants poured into Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel, who had initially welcomed them, prevailed upon the EU to force other countries to admit specific quotas.

It even has segments searching for the next new musical stars in “CarmelFest Has Talent”. DISSOCIATIVE In 1943, Bethlehem Steel, then the second largest steel manufacturer in the United States, employed a record 283,735 workers. IDENTITY By 1945, the company held net assets of $880 million and had revenues of $1.1 billion. The industrial giant unified the BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA small, incredibly diverse City of Bethlehem under one roof, one cause and one AFTER BIG STEEL extremely proud identity. But in 2001, “the Steel” went bankrupt, and the blast furnaces that once roared and blazed all Evan Orf day and night went cold. Today, the city is in a state of urban renewal in attempts to reclaim a sense of unified identity in the wake of Bethlehem Steel’s collapse. Though the blast furnaces still stand, the urban renewal project, called Southside Vision 2014, is steering Bethlehem in too many different directions at the same time, giving the city a sort of dissociative identity. This essay charts both of these stories — the rise and fall of Bethlehem Steel, and the renewal of the city post-steel — and the links between them.

  • 2018 Annual Report
Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission 2018 Annual Report The mission of the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is to protect, conserve and enhance the Commonwealth’s aquatic resources, and provide fishing and boating opportunities. www.fishandboat.com 1 2018 Annual Report Executive Director’s Message by Timothy D. Schaeffer On behalf of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s (PFBC) staff and Board of Commissioners, it is my pleasure to present the agency’s 2018 Annual Report. The year was just about over when I was honored to return to the PFBC as the new Executive Director on November 13, so the credit for everything you see in this report goes to the hard-working employees of the agency who were already here. To introduce myself to House and Senate members and their staff, I thought it would be helpful to briefly share the following excerpts from the first column I wrote for our Pennsylvania Angler & Boater magazine to explain how I will approach the position. For those legislators and staff with whom I have worked before, I mean it when I say that I am the same guy, just with a different job. As a bit of background, I worked at the PFBC from April 2008 until December 2017 before leaving Pennsylvania Fish & Boat to serve at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). When people asked Commission Executive Director why I went to work at DEP and why I returned to the PFBC, the answer is the same —to make the Tim Schaeffer biggest difference possible in the conservation of Pennsylvania’s natural resources.
