Nursery Class Teacher Full-Time Required from January 2019 or before

1 Chinthurst is an independent day school for approximately 140 boys and girls aged from 2 years 9months, to 11 years. It is a growing school which has recently become a part of the family.

The school is set is located in between the villages of Walton-on-the Hill and . It was established in 1908 and has an excellent academic and sporting reputation, sending children to the most selective senior schools in the area.

The pupils may benefit from an early offer and transfer to Reigate Grammar School following an internal assessment and recommendation. However, others will also be prepared to sit 11+ exams and move on to schools which include , St John’s, Caterham, Box Hill School, Hurstpierpoint College and Worth School.

The school is non-denominational but is based on Christian values. Music, sport and drama play an important part in the life of the school.

2 Nursery Class Teacher (Full-Time) at Chinthurst

1. General

Chinthurst is a part of Reigate Grammar School (RGS) family of schools, a charity and a company limited by guarantee. The three schools are managed separately but are part of the same company there are two boards of Governors.

The Governors delegate the day-to-day running of the schools to the Head teacher and the Bursars. The Headmaster of RGS also acts as Chief Executive of the whole school and the senior school Bursar acts as both Clerk to the Governors and Company Secretary.

2. Governance and Management

The Head of Chinthurst is given considerable autonomy in the day-to-day running of Chinthurst, but reports to the Head of RGS and the senior school Bursar regarding major changes of policy, financial matters, staff appointments and disciplinary matters, health and safety, and the maintenance of the school site. The Head meets regularly with the Head of RGS.

3. Job Description

We are looking to recruit an outstanding Nursery Class Teacher, to work full-time from January 2019, or before if available to start.

Reporting Lines

To be answerable to: -

 The Head of Lower School-Day to day running of the school, changes to arrangements and pastoral issues.

With the responsibility of Nursery Class Teacher, the following essential additional criteria including aims, skills, knowledge and abilities are required for the role:

 To work in co-operation with senior colleagues, as appropriate, in the re-organisation and redevelopment of the Nursery to achieve the most effective approach to raise standards.

 To work closely and co-operatively with the other Nursery Staff with a commitment to work as part of a team to plan and coordinate work, and to be pro-active towards change in the working environment.

 To effectively manage the Teaching Assistants within the Nursery.

 To take on key worker responsibilities, including the pastoral care and day to day administration of a Nursery class to include maintaining the register, absence notes and routines etc.

 To be responsible for the planning, assessment and teaching of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum within the Nursery and working closely to ensure parallel standards in both classes.

 To have the initiative to work on his or her own, but the sensitivity to work as part of a larger team.

 To have high expectations and standards with excellent planning skills to ensure activities, lessons and experiences have relevant clear objectives and goals.

3  To use a range of teaching strategies and learning styles effectively, both adult-led and child-initiated.

 To deliver a child centred approach to teaching and learning with a determination and drive to achieve the highest possible standards for every learner.

 To be directly responsible for the standards the pupils achieve and to ensure that they demonstrate competence equal to their abilities across the curriculum.

 To create a safe, well organised, attractive learning environment that reflects current outstanding practice, both indoors and outdoors.

 To ensure the classroom is tidy and resources and equipment are used effectively.

 To continually observe, assess, record and report on children’s progress and attainment in line with school policy, including compiling evidence for the Learning Journals, Progress Tracker and Reports.

 To ensure that assessments are used correctly to inform future planning.

 To ensure that children are well motivated and challenged and that high expectation is evident in the pupil’s work and behaviour.

 To have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to a range of audiences.

 To liaise with and maintain close links with parents/carers in a professional and knowledgeable manner at all times.

 To possess excellent IT skills; to be proficient in the use of the Computer, IWB and iPad.

 To have the vision to develop their teaching and deliver best practice in an outstanding setting.

 To commit to keeping up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice and undertake appropriate CPD.

 To be able to reflect on practice and identify areas for improvement and to participate in the school’s process of self-evaluation and continuous improvement.

 To display enthusiasm, energy, efficiency, flexibility, a sense of humour and an ability to work under pressure.

 To be dynamic, highly motivated and passionate about learning for each and every child, delivering high quality provision in a forward thinking, imaginative and reflective way.

4. The Person

The successful candidate will have, or be able to demonstrate, the majority of the following: Qualifications/skills

 At least a Level 4, full and relevant Early Years qualification; a qualification that reflects the attainment of a depth of skills, theoretical knowledge.

4 Above all, the successful candidate must care about the education of young people.

Although a day school, many activities happen in the evenings and at weekends, and the successful candidate will be expected to attend some of these events.

5. Terms and Conditions

All teaching staff are automatically members of the pension scheme run by the Teachers’ Pensions Agency, which is transferable between all UK schools. Lunches are provided free of charge during term time.

Short-listed candidates will be invited for interview during which they will be asked to teach an observed lesson. Interviews with senior staff will explore each candidate’s ability to perform the duties of the post, subject knowledge, ability to relate appropriately to pupils and colleagues, organisational and pastoral skills, and willingness to contribute to the school community.
