1. OBITUARIES (Item 2 on the Order Paper)

Honourable Members, it is with profound sadness that we formally note the passing away of:

- Struggle veteran Ntate Lesiba “Ike” Maphoto, Maphoto was one of the first recruits of Umkhonto We Sizwe (MK) the ANC armed wing. In 1963, he was sent to the former Soviet Union for political and military training as part of the "Luthuli Detachment".

As an MK commander, he distinguished himself as a disciplined and fearless freedom fighter. He served 13 years in prison after being captured by enemy forces for his role in the Sipolilo Campaign;

- Struggle veteran Mr Amos Ndwalane, 70. The late Mr Ndwalane, from Lamontville Township, in , was a freedom fighter who was due to be hanged after spending eight years on death row in the then Central Prison (now named Kgosi Mampuru II) and only survived the noose by a mere seven days due to the unbanning of the ANC. Mr Ndwalane will be given an Official Funeral. His funeral will take place;

- Veteran actress Ms Nomhle Nkonyeni. Ms Nkonyeni has been instrumental and played a leading role, in shaping the arts and culture industry in and her contribution was recognised when she received the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver from the President of South Africa, amongst other accolades;

- Rugby Legend Mr James Small. Mr Small passed on last week Wednesday. He played as a winger for the Springboks and made his debut against the All Blacks in 1992. His final appearance was against Scotland in 1997 where he scored his 20th try, becoming the leading Springbok try scorer. He was also the leading try scorer in the 1996 Super 12 season; and

- Soccer legend Mr Marc Batchelor. Mr Batchelor was shot and killed last evening in what appears to be a professional hit. He had distinguished himself as a prolific striker for Kaizer, , Orlando Pirates and Bafana-Bafana.

2. ANNOUNCEMENTS (Item 3 on the Order Paper)

2.1 APOLOGIES

2.1.1 Honourable Ms NN Boyce, Speaker, has tendered her apology for not attending today’s sitting. She is away on official Legislature work;

2.1.2 Honourable Mr S Zikalala, Premier, has tendered his apology for not attending today’s sitting. The Premier has an official engagement;

2.1.3 Honourable Ms BN Sithole-Moloi, MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development; will not be in attendance at the budget sittings on the 16th and 17th July 2019 as she will be in the National Assembly attending the National Budget Vote for the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries;

2.1.4 Honourable Ms HSG Mavimbela, MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation has tendered her apology for arriving late in today’s sitting;

2.1.5 Honourable Mr SE Hlomuka, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has tendered his apology for not attending today’s sitting. MEC Hlomuka is attending a crucial Eskom event in the Nquthu Municipality;

2.1.6 Honourable Ms VP Caluza has tendered her apology for not attending today’s sitting; and

2.1.7 Honourable Mr C Pappas has tendered his apology for not attending today’s sitting. He has a Party commitment.

2.1.8 Honourable Mr V Dube has tendered his apology for not attending today`s sitting. He has a family bereavement.

2.2 MESSAGE RELATING TO MEMBERS WHO ARE UNWELL

- We have been advised that the Deputy Chairperson of Committees, honourable Ms MPP Zungu is not well

and will not be attending the sitting and any other Legislature business for the next two weeks.

- Honourable Ms NN Sibhidla has tendered her apology as she has been hospitalised until tomorrow.

- We have received word that honourable Mr HU De Boer is not well from 16 to 19 July 2019.

We would like to wish all our members a speedy recovery.

2.3 2019 KZN LEGISLATURE, MANDELA DAY PROGRAMME

Honourable Members are notified about the Mandela Day programme to be undertaken by the KZN Legislature. This annual programme is undertaken with a view to heed a noble call for the world to “Take Action, Inspire Change, Make Every Day a Mandela Day”. The programme is scheduled to take place as follows:

NB. Honourable Members are humbly advised that the meeting point will be Greytown Hospital at 09h30, the convoy will then depart to the venue.

2.4 CHIEF ALBERT LUTHULI LEGACY WALK AND FUN RUN

Honourable Members are invited by the Museum Council and Partners to attend and participate in the planned Chief Albert Luthuli Legacy Walk and Fun Run scheduled to take place on Saturday, 20 July 2019 in Groutville, KwaDukuza, starting from 07h00 in the morning.

2.5 2019 DUNDEE JULY FESTIVAL

Honourable Ms HGS Mavimbela, MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, has pleasure in inviting all Members of the Legislature to attend the 2019 Dundee July Horse Racing Festival scheduled to take place on Saturday, 20 July 2019 starting at 10h00 at Dundee Recreational Grounds.

2.6 PARMED

Ms Wendy Landsberg from Parmed will be available tomorrow, 17 July 2019 from 08h30 to 14h00 to assist Members who have queries about their medical aid. Members will find her in the Members’ Reading Room.
