In the previous decade, it has grown at an annual rate of 8%. The Cruise Industry has been immune to the complex economic crises that have crossed the world, such as the Oil crisis of the 80s, 90s Iraq War, September 11 at the beginning of the new century and the current financial crisis. For the first time, in 2011, the number of people around the world who took a cruise reached 20 million. The numbers increased from 18.7 million to 20.6 million between 2010 and 2011, a growth of 10 %, which represents more 2 million cruise passengers. The growth potential of this activity is in fact very high. America: North America and Caribbean Europe: Mediterranean; Atlantic Coast and North Europe The main markets were North America (11.5 million) and Europe (6.2 million), and the forecasts point to continue this increase, with the European market recording the highest growth. In 2011, 41 cruise lines were domiciled in Europe, operating 120 cruise ships and another 76 vessels were deployed in Europe by 25 non-European lines. -

Discussions around authorship in games and games development, the transformative effect of the gallery on the cultural reception and significance of videogames led to the exploration of participatory modes and playful experiences that might more effectively expose the designer’s intent and enhance the nature of our experience as visitors and players. In proposing a participatory mode for the exhibition of videogames this article suggests an approach to exhibition and event design that attempts to resolve tensions between traditions of passive consumption of curated collections and active participation in meaning making using theoretical models from games analysis and criticism and the conceit of game and museum spaces as analogous rules based environments. -

(B,D) Day 3 Fatima – Braga - Sarria Journey north this morning and stop in Braga, one of the oldest Christian cities in the world and nicknamed the “Portuguese Rome.” Enjoy a unique experience as you ride the water funicular, built in 1882, to reach the Bom Jesus do Monte (Good Jesus of the Mount) sanctuary. See the unique zigzag stairway that is dedicated to the five senses—sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste—and the three theological virtues—faith, hope, and charity. Later, cross into Spain and head for Sarria where tomorrow you will start your walking pilgrimage. Tonight, dinner is included at a local restaurant. D’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, Department of Economic Studies, Pescara, Italy Miguel Brito3 Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies, Estoril, Portugal Abstract The tourist image of Lisbon and its uniqueness was shaped through the existence of “popular neighbourhoods”, spaces of intense and unchangeable social life where the elements of cultural life are present as a landmark of each different space. Alcântara, Bica, Alfama, Mouraria, and Madragoa are examples of traditional Lisbon neighbourhoods, which today continue to be closely associated with specific representations of the city and of its people’s ways of life within the city. As part of the tourism development that Lisbon has been experiencing in recent years, one of the emerging neighbourhoods is Alcântara, a former industrial district that is currently undergoing a functional reconversion. Situated by the river Tagus, next to the museum district of Lisbon (Belém), and not far from the town centre (Baixa), it presents a different tourist supply: besides the traditional local heritage, composed of monuments, palaces and museums, it is probably the best district of Lisbon to recall the industrial era, its buildings, activities and ways of life. This article deals with the transition process of the neighbourhood from an economic fabric based on industry to a tertiary type of area, within which a special reference to the tourism sector is given. As a reaction to the increasing demand of the tourists, several hotels, apartments and other types of local accommodation have emerged in the neighbourhood. -

Athens and Lisbon Stock Markets: A thermodynamic approach A.GKRANAS, V.L.RENDOUMIS, H.M.POLATOGLOU Physics Department Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Thessaloniki GR-54124 Greece Abstract: - In this work, we present the results of our analysis in the stock markets of Greece and Portugal. We recognize exponential laws at both Athens Stock Exchange General Index (GD) and Lisbon’s Main Index. This fact stimulates us to apply formalisms taken from physics about the study of macroscopic properties. Especially, we introduce the implication of Newton’s law of cooling on these markets. The satisfying fit leads us to express a thermodynamic approach, in our effort to understand such complex behaviors. Quantitative research is now the rule and not the exception as quants, quantitative analysts, often with interdisciplinary background are day by day more and more important in financial institutions and banking foundations. In these recent years a lot of scientists from the field of physics started to study social systems and mostly systems of economy trying to apply methods and formalisms developed for years in their field. This effort was successful, since now days direct access to high- frequency data (on the scale of seconds) not only for stocks, currencies or interest rates, but also for more exotic markets such as option markets, energy markets, weather derivatives, etc. is the rule. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Tourism in rural areas boosts economic dynamism, turning them more attractive, diversifying economic activities, creating jobs and wealth. With the importance that micro and small firms play on economic growth, particularly in rural areas, the objective of this article is to analyze the main motivations to start a business in rural tourism and the problems and barriers faced by these entrepreneurs in Northern Portugal. With the results of a survey an exploratory factor analysis was conducted to distinguish underlying motivational structures and the results suggested that the main motivations to create the business were related to family and success. Using cluster analysis owners were grouped into three segments. They encountered some restrictions in the start-up process as bureaucracy, lack of financial support and information.
