She didnot have ambitions tobecome Queen. She claimedthat she wouldlike tobecome Queenof People’s Hearts andshe managed. There is oftendiscussedthe questionabout her influence onmonarchy.Accordingtothe surveyof public opinionwhichis remembe- red in Diana. A Princess andHer Troubled Marriage byNicholas Davies and that was conducted by Daily Express in January 1992, Diana’s popularity raised to 29per cent, while Charles’s decreasedtotenper cent.QueenandPrincess Annwere bothgiven15per cent.Diana was alsoelectedtobe the most entertainingmember of the royal familyby49 per cent,Charles got just sixper cent (Davies 14).Nicholas Davies alsopointedout that the royal familyhadnever beensocriticizedas it was at that time.About one fifthof citi- zens donot thinkthat theyneedthe monarchyandthe youthevenwishedtoendthe mo narchy. On the other hand, it was just Diana who helped to popularize the monarchy. Thanks toher indisputable empathyandsympathyfor sufferingpeople all over the world she was worshippedthe same as Mother Theresa, whom Diana visitedtooandwhodied five days after Diana’s death. She was a patronof plentyof foundations. The photographs of Diana meetingpeoplesufferingfromAIDS,shakinghandswiththemandhuggingsmall dyingchildren, changedpeople‘s attitude tothis illness.Diana encouragedpeople not tobe afraidof the contact withthese seriouslyill patients.Alsoher campaignagainst landmines was sosuccessful that after Diana’s death,inOttawa inDecember 1997,there was conclu dedanagreementaboutthe banonusingoflandminesthatwassignedbyfourtycountries. Mike Whitlam, the headof BritishRedCross, was evenpersuadedthat if Diana hadnot visited Angola, the negotiation in Canada, where the agreement was ratified, would not have takenplace at all.“Infact,it was the appreciationof her work“ 1 Whitlam is citedin the bookbyRosalindCoward, Diana:The Portrait (Bradford345). Unfortunately, duringher childhoodandher marriage as well, she went throughmanysad eventsthatinfluencedherlife.Oneofthe purposesofthisthesisistogetclosertoDiana’s 1„Ve skutečnosti šlo o uznání její práce.“(translated by the author) 7 personality.Accordingtogiveninformationthe reader possiblycanfindout if without bad treating,Diana’s worse character traits transpired,or if the treatingher was reallysobad. Andbecause,as the title hints, the mainaim of this thesis is toclarifysome myths Diana’s life is shroudedin, her life will be describedhere inchronological order from her birthto death. On the basis of comparing of available sources, this work will objectively assess Diana’s personandher surroundingandthenalsosome hazyevents connectedwithher deathas well as discrepancies that appearedduringthe investigationof the fatal car acci- dent and conspiracytheories that emergedafter includingthe questionwhether Diana was killedbeingpregnant.BesidesthehazycircumstancesitwasDiana’sintuitionandherabil- ity to forecast her death (and there are tangible proofs for it) that became the breeding groundfor conspiracytheories, but partlyalsothe fact that people were not or some still are not willingtocope withtheir model’s death.Theysimplyare not able toadmit that life of their iconcouldhave endedinsucha commonway.Finallythis thesis will brieflysum- marize her personalityand accordingtothe establishedfacts trytofindsome of reasons for Diana’s behaviour andher psychic
