Characterization and Green-Design of Nanomaterials

This project is part of an effort to develop a structured approach to the nanotechnology ecosystem. The main partners—Éa Eco-Entreprises (the regional cluster for green companies) and Aix-Marseille University’s CEREGE laboratory (Centre for Research and Teaching in Environmental Geoscience)—have requested support from the Region Sud for this project as part of the OIR strategic sector program for Smart Tech.

These stakeholders aim to develop services to help companies seeking new designs for nano-products in order to meet the requirements of the REACH Regulation, which was adopted in December 2018 to provide more information about nanomaterials. The initiative includes a one-stop shop that will consolidate the expertise and equipment that are scattered throughout the territory (50 regional players, small businesses, SMEs, large companies and AMU's public laboratories), in order to provide an integrated service to help companies deal with this major regulatory issue. Manufacturers have until January 2020 to comply with the REACH Regulation for nanomaterials. Non-compliance could result in withdrawal of approvals, financial penalties, bans on bringing products to market, etc.
