I hope thot does not matter. first, as o collector of early (silent} comedians, I would like very much to get high quality, uncut copies of Harold Lloyd features . I hove b.en asking Block.hawk and other suppliers to make them ovo1loble To date, the 0 on~o:'h~r~ ,:~i;s ~[e c:~e~i~:~ :s ~mS:f:ti~;:~~~I~~~~~:~ :11:.tneJ'i would like you to. seriou~ly consider uttin the Lloyd Hries on vid.o cassette. If you read the "Editerrihle" column in Vol 99 of Clonic Images, you sow th<?t the writer b.lieves supar _f is (o~I but) dead. Or at the very least, dying quickly . In my opinion, it would not be tc.onomically fea1ible for you to put the Uoyd senes on super 8 format . Despite the quality advantages of film (any fo,mat), collectors today hove switched to video. We ore perfectly happy with the quality of well-prodvced casettes from reputable firms. The many advantages of. vide~ format greatly outweigh any km of quality. Sinc•r•ly; Mr . Terr once T Toth 2 THE GENERAL (1 927) BUSTER KEATON, MARION MACK, CHARLES SMITH, FRANK BARNES, GLEN CAVENDER, JIM FARLEY, FRANK HAGNEY and JOE KEATON Buster Keaton wrote and directed mo'St of his films himself, and his best was THE GENERAL. Keaton created this great comedy out of an authentic episode of Ameri can history - a story about the famous Civi l War locomotive. THE GENERAL was the last great feature comedy of the silent era, filmed only two years before the talkie revolution. Screen critics and historians generally rate it as one of the top fifty to seventy-five silent features. Keaton's heroines had one thing in common - they were dumb - and Annabelle, heroine of THE GENERAL, was no exception. While other screen comedians treated their heroines with dignity, Keaton deliberately used his heroines as comedy foils - almost a s props. Although THE GENERAL is a comedy, the battle scenes have the scope and realism of Matthew Brady's photographs of the Civil War brought to life . And th rough all the inferno and chaos, Keaton weaves his nonsense so expertly that tw~ great armies serve a s mere straight men. This full length version is beautifully piano scored by William Perry. 76 min .
