WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2016 SPORTS EQUESTRIAN Germany’s Jung goes for another eventing gold RIO DE JANEIRO: Often called the best eventing rid- er of all time, Germany’s Michael Jung aims yesterday to repeat Olympic gold with Sam, the same horse he rode to team and individual wins in 2012. Jung and Sam will start the final day of the multi- discipline sport in second behind Australia’s Christopher Burton while Germany, the team winner in 2008 and 2012, is in fourth. “It’s not often that you get to do two Olympics on the same horse. A repeat was not always the plan, how- ever, as Jung only turned to Sam, a 16-year-old German Sport Horse, a week before the animals were due to fly to Rio. • A Comparative Study of After-Match Reports on 'Lost'and 'Won'football
International Journal of Applied Linguistics & English Literature ISSN 2200-3592 (Print), ISSN 2200-3452 (Online) Vol. 4 No. 1; January 2015 Copyright © Australian International Academic Centre, Australia A Comparative Study Of After-match Reports On ‘Lost’ And ‘Won’ Football Games Within The Framework Of Critical Discourse Analysis Biook Behnam Department of English, Islamic Azad University, Tabriz, Iran E-mail: [email protected] Hasan Jahanban Isfahlan (Corresponding Author) Department of English, Islamic Azad University, Tabriz, Iran E-mail: [email protected] Received: 09-07-2014 Accepted: 02-09-2014 Published: 01-01-2015 doi:10.7575/aiac.ijalel.v.4n.1p.115 URL: http://dx.doi.org/10.7575/aiac.ijalel.v.4n.1p.115 Abstract In spite of the obvious differences in research styles, all critical discourse analysts aim at exploring the role of discourse in the production and reproduction of power relations within social structures. Nowadays, after-match written reports are prepared immediately after every football match and provide the readers with the apparently objective representations of important events and occurrences of the game. The authors of this paper analyzed four after-match reports (retrieved from Manchester United’s own website), two regarding their lost games and two on their won games. Hodge and Kress’s (1996) framework was followed in the analysis of the grammatical features of the texts at hand. Also, taking into consideration the pivotal role of lexicalization as one dimension of the textualization process (Fairclough, 2012), vocabulary and more specifically the choice of specific verbs, nouns, adverbs and noun or noun phrase modification were examined.

  • The List: All Primetime Series on Television Calendar Year 2015
The List: All Primetime Series on Television Calendar Year 2015 Source: Nielsen, Live+7 data provided by FX Networks Research. 12/29/14-12/27/15. Original telecasts only. Excludes repeats, specials, movies, news, sports, programs with only one telecast, and Spanish language nets. Cable: Mon-Sun, 8-11P. Broadcast: Mon-Sat, 8-11P; Sun 7-11P. "<<" denotes below Nielsen minimum reporting standards based on P2+ Total U.S. Rating to the tenth (0.0). Important to Note: This list utilizes the TV Guide listing service to denote original telecasts (and exclude repeats and specials), and also line-items original series by the internal coding/titling provided to Nielsen by each network. Thus, if a network creates different "line items" to denote different seasons or different day/time periods of the same series within the calendar year, both entries are listed separately. The following provides examples of separate line items that we counted as one show: %(7 V%HLQJ0DU\-DQH%(,1*0$5<-$1(6DQG%(,1*0$5<-$1(6 1%& V7KH9RLFH92,&(DQG92,&(78( 1%& V7KH&DUPLFKDHO6KRZ&$50,&+$(/6+2:3DQG&$50,&+$(/6+2: Again, this is a function of how each network chooses to manage their schedule. Hence, we reference this as a list as opposed to a ranker. Based on our estimated manual count, the number of unique series are: 2015³1,415 primetime series (1,524 line items listed in the file). 2014³1,517 primetime series (1,729 line items).
