A month for awareness shows nothing but apathy

February is the shortest month of the year, and it has come and gone quite fast this year. It almost makes it seem as though there isn’t enough time to do anything. Well, that is exactly how some must feel. It is amazing how students quickly embraced the Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, but the one month dedicated as Black History month and American Heart month seems to have gone by without much fanfare. The groups involved in these events have done little to promote their causes. Groups involved in health awareness have not made additional effort to shed light on their causes. As for other causes, there is still left to be desired in the ways of activism. How would breast cancer victims feel if all they got for their cause was just little pink ribbons? Marcus Barkley/STAFF As for Black History month, this is a time to educate and involve students. Involve students! Draw attention! Get excited! Mention it once or twice. Do something to remember the history such an integral part of American history. Let the round of protests begin It might be easy to point fingers, but it’s your cause as much as anyone else’s.
