HASSAN SOIL EROSION IN THE PUNJAB Suroeyed by ABDUL AZIZ ANWAR, M.A., LL.B. 1955 (The Board of Eoonomio Inquiry, Punjab (Pakis\an), does not hold itself reaponsible for uy opinion e:z:preSBed or conclusions reached by the writ.er). PREFACE Soil erosion is called the 'creeping death' of the soil. It is a world-wide problem, but it is much more assertive in under developed countries where the modern discoveries in scientific know ledge have not been applied commensurate with their needs in agriculture. It works out its serious effects through this process : loss of surface soil, plant-food and sub-soil water, silting up of water channels, disruption of communications, reduction in productivity of land and ultimately lowering the already low standard of living of the peasantry. Soil erosion has affected vast areas of our fertile land, rendering them completely unfit for cultivation. In Rawalpindi Division alone about 5 lakh acres of productive land have become uncultivable while another 10 Jakh acres are seriously affected. The menace of soil erosion is fast spreading. 1t needs effective measures for combating it. It need hardly be emphasiseC: that soil is a basic national resource and its conservation is the prime necessity. For, without ita due care, we may not be left with enough land to raise food and commercial crops for our growing economy.

Things to Do in Islamabad, page 1 of 2 Things to Do in Islamabad Islamabad is a charming city where lush green hill backdrops and mild warm weather set it apart from other big cities in the region. It is a city, not for the night owls and party animals, but for the aesthetically inclined and to those drawn to the glory of nature. Islamabad’s relative infancy as a major metropolis is reflected in the city’s architecture, which is modern – the influence of its first urban planner Constantinos A. Doxiadis is pretty evident – yet distinctly Islamic in appearance. Faisal Mosque E-7, Islamabad, ICT, Pakistan The Faisal Mosque (also known as Shah Faisal Masjid) is the largest mosque in Pakistan, located in the national capital city of Islamabad. Completed in 1986, it was designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay to be shaped like a desert Bedouin’s tent. It functions as the national mosque of Pakistan. Height: 295' (90 m) Architect: Vedat Dalokay Margalla Hills The Margalla Hills—also called Margalla Mountain Range are also a part of lesser Himalayas located north of Islamabad. Margalla Range has an area of 12,605 hectares. The hills are a part of Murree hills. It is a range with many valleys as well as high mountains. The hill range nestles between an elevation of 685 meters at the western end and 1,604 meters on its east with average height of 1000 meters. Its highest peak is Tilla Charouni. The range gets snowfall in winters. Instituted in 1980, the Margalla Hills National Park comprises the Margalla Range (12605 hectares) the Rawal Lake, and Shakarparian Sports and Cultural complex.

JUDGMENT SHEET IN THE ISLAMABAD HIGH COURT, ISLAMABAD JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT W.P. No.403/2020 Umar Ayaz versus Capital Development Authority through its Chairman & 04 others Petitioner by: Mr. Zufran Abbas Chaudhary, Advocate for petitioner. Malik Saqib Mehmood, Advocate for applicant in C.M. No.1841/2020 Respondents by: Mr. Amir Latif Gill, Advocate for CDA. Mr. Nasim Ahmed Shah, Advocate for Chief Commissioner, ICT, Islamabad. Mr. Ghulam Murtaza, Naib Tehsildar, ICT, Islamabad. Date of Decision: 23.12.2020 JUDGMENT MOHSIN AKHTAR KAYANI, J:- Through this writ petition, the petitioner has prayed for issuance of direction to the respondents authority for clearance of amenity plots from the encroachers in Model Town, Humak Housing Scheme, Islamabad as per master plan/layout plan. 2. Succinctly, the petitioner has alleged that the master layout plan of Model Town Humak, Islamabad despite being approved by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) with specific allocation of land for amenities with respect to schools, colleges, green area, public park, etc., the CDA has failed to provide all these facilities even after the span of 36 years, as such, inaction on the part of respondent Authority has unbridled the land grabbers to raise illegal constructions over the amenity plots. Hence, instant writ petition. W.P. No.403 of 2020 Page 2 3. Learned counsel for petitioner contends that the land grabbers have converted the acquired land for their private use in violation of approved layout plan of Model Town, Humak, whereas the CDA has remained sluggish in taking action against such land grabbers, as such, the superior Courts have time and again held that the land meant for public-at-large in shape of amenity plots is considered to be a trust and the civic body is bound to protect the same in favour of general public.
