The Avs haven't played since Saturday, when they ended a four-game road trip with a 5-2 loss in Florida. Colorado finished 2-2-0 on its four-game Eastern swing. This evening is the first half of a back-to-back for the Avs, who will head to Arizona immediately after tonight's contest and face the Coyotes tomorrow.

AVALANCHE & JETS Tonight is the first of five meetings between these Central Division rivals. The Jets will make three trips to Denver while the Avs will travel to Manitoba twice. The Avs finished 3-2-0 against Winnipeg last season, 1-1-0 at home. Shawn Matthias spent the end of the 2015-16 campaign with the Avs. Cody McLeod hails from Binscarth, Manitoba and Calvin Pickard grew up in Winnipeg.

BACK-TO-BACK The Avs are playing their second back-to-back set of the season, as they face the Jets tonight and Coyotes tomorrow night in Arizona. Colorado is 1-0-0 in the first game of a back-to-back and 0-1-0 in the second. The Avs will play 11 back-to-backs this year after having 10 last season.

TANGLED UP IN BLUE The Avs are wearing their blue third jerseys tonight, the first of 14 occasions that they will sport the blue in 2016-17. Colorado unveiled the new sweaters last season, finishing 5-8-1 in those games.

LIGHT OCTOBER The Avs will close out the October portion of their schedule tomorrow in Arizona. Colorado's seven games this month are its fewest ever in the month of October. The previous low was nine games in October of 1979, 1998 and 2003. Tonight is one of only two home games this month.

TOUGH START The Avalanche's first five opponents to start the season were the Central Division champions (Dallas), the champions (Pittsburgh), the Presidents' Trophy winners (Washington), a team that has reached the Conference Final in each of the last two seasons (Tampa Bay) and the Atlantic Division champions (Florida). The Avs finished 3-2-0 through that stretch.

He became the 20th player in franchise history to appear in 500 games and the 10th in Avalanche history (since 1995-96). JOE GOAL-BORNE Joe Colborne recorded his first career hat trick in the Avalanche's 6-5 season-opening victory over the on Oct. 15. A look at Colborne's notable evening: • Became the second player in Avalanche history to score a hat trick on Opening Night, joining Paul Stastny, who tallied three goals in the 2007-08 opener vs. Dallas (Oct. 3, 2007). Colborne was the fifth player in franchise history to score a hat trick on Opening Night. • Was the first Avalanche player to record a hat trick in his debut with the team. Was the second player in franchise history to have a hat trick in his first game with the club, as Real Cloutier scored three times in the Quebec Nordiques' inaugural game on Oct. 10, 1979 against the Atlanta Flames. • Was the first Avs player to score two goals in the first period of season opener since Joe Sakic on Oct 10, 1998 vs Ottawa.

"WINNING" MENTALITY Tyson Barrie scored his 12th career game-winning goal in the season-opening victory over the Stars, passing Sandis Ozolinsh (11) for the most GWG by a defenseman in franchise history. Barrie already holds the team record for OT goals by a defenseman with four.

HERE’S TO THE NEW BOSS Jared Bednar was hired on Aug. 25, 2016, becoming the seventh head coach in Avalanche history and the 15th in franchise history. Bednar, 44, guided the affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, to the 2016 Calder Cup last season. The 2016-17 campaign marks Bednar’s 15th season in professional coaching and his seventh as a head coach. He posted a 251-158-42 (.603) combined record in his four years as an AHL head coach and two years as ECHL head coach. He guided the South Carolina Stingrays to the 2009 Kelly Cup as ECHL champions.

NOT BAD FOR OPENERS Colorado's 6-5 victory on Opening Night improved the franchise's record to 20-10-7 in season openers (.635), the second-best mark in the NHL behind Tampa Bay (15-7-2 .667).

IRONMEN Carl Soderberg owns the longest active ironman streak on the team at 174 consecutive games, a career high. Jarome Iginla ranks second at 169 straight games. Iginla has dressed in all 82 games in each of his two years with the Avalanche and in 11 seasons overall, the most 82-game campaigns in NHL history.

STRONG IN SHOOTOUTS The Avalanche finished 4-0 in shootouts last season, the league’s only unbeaten team. The Avs, who led all clubs with 10 shootout wins the previous season (10-4 in 2014-15), have won nine consecutive shootouts, one shy of the franchise record set March 19, 2011 to Jan. 2, 2012. The Avs are 41-13 in their last 54. Semyon Varlamov is 27-14 in career shootouts with a .752 save percentage. His .752 Sv% is tied for the highest all-time (min 100 att), matching Mathieu Garon and Johan Hedberg. He is 23-8 as a member of the Avalanche, stopping .771 (96/22). As a team, the Avs own the highest shooting percentage in league history (39.7), and third-highest save percentage (.718).

6-0 IN PRESEASON The Avalanche finished 6-0-0 during the preseason, the NHL's only unbeaten team in exhibition play. Mikhail Grigorenko led the Avs with four goals (4g/0a) and shared the team points lead with Rene Bourque (1g/3a). Grigorenko's four goals, in fact, tied for the League lead.
