Board of Directors Nominees & Bios 2019 PAST COMMODORE Andrew McGregor, Noah’s Ark

Andrew has been involved in sailing since 1984, starting with the Canadian Forces Sailing Association on Dow’s Lake in Ottawa, sailing dinghies and teaching sailing to adults. He joined the Nepean Sailing Club when he purchased his first keelboat, a Grampian 26.

As the Nepean Sailing Club was very much a self-help club similar to Trident, he was actively involved in the volunteer aspect of that club, including two years as the Social Director and three years as the Rear Commodore.

They joined Trident, when his family bought a bigger boat, Noah's Ark. Since arriving at Trident, the family has volunteered wherever possible to share the volunteer workload.

At Trident, Andrew has held the positions of Director, Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore and Commodore. He is ready to continue volunteering at Trident, taking on the role of Past Commodore.

2019 TYC Board of Directors Nominees Page 1 COMMODORE Claude Laferrière, Breezin’ II

Claude is a professional engineer in systems and computer networking. He owns a consulting company, working on a variety of projects for government clients.

He is married to Dianne, a retired nurse, who is a great helmsperson. Their two daughters, Carolyn and Anik, have sailed since they were young and come to Trident when they can.

Claude is a Fifth Degree Black Belt in ITF-style Taekwondo, and is a Level 2 instructor with the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance. His performance in sailing varies from first place to last place and with lots in between.

Claude and Dianne joined Trident Yacht Club in 1996. Claude has served on the Board of Directors in various positions, notably, Commodore in 2002 and most recently as Rear Commodore.

He is looking forward to contributing to Trident, a club that has been home for more than 20 years, as the Commodore in 2019.

2019 TYC Board of Directors Nominees Page 2 VICE COMMODORE Paul Vickery, Lady Eastbourne

Paul is a litigation lawyer who was, until recently, with the Federal Department of Justice. He is now semi-retired, and practices part-time in the private sector.

His wife Sandra was employed with the federal government prior to her retirement.

Sandra and Paul have been club members for the last sixteen years and enjoy sailing their Niagara 35, and swinging on a mooring in the wonderful islands of the St. Lawrence.

Before joining Trident, they sailed out of the Nepean Sailing Club, and prior to that, the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club.

They have two daughters, Hayley, 33, and Jessica, 30

2019 TYC Board of Directors Nominees Page 3 REAR COMMODORE Steve Anderson, Maggie Mac

Steve has been a boater/sailor since a very young age. His family had a cottage on Lake Champlain when he was growing up and his summers were spent on the lake. The love of being on the water has never left him.

When his own family was young, he restored a 28' vintage Chris Craft mahogany cruiser, which they kept at the Hudson Yacht Club. The old Chris Craft took them on many family vacations, including the Rideau Canal. While being a member at HYC, he also served as director of house and grounds.

In the past, he has been very active with Canadian Power And Sail Squadrons and has taught the basic boating course for several years. He switched from power to sail, and moved from HYC to Valleyfield Marina, giving him much easier access to the wonderful cruising area of the 1000 Islands. His love of the area and the Islands led him to this part of Ontario, and to Trident.

His education is in agriculture and was involved in golf course management for more than 20 years. This was followed by a 23-year career in real estate. Currently, he spends his time growing garlic, and sells it at many farmers’ markets across Ontario!

When he met his partner, Julie, she had never set foot on a before. With her help and spirit, they were able to restore their present boat. She has become an enthusiastic and confident sailor in a very short time!

They are both looking forward to next season, and continuing their contribution to TYC.

2019 TYC Board of Directors Nominees Page 4 FLEET CAPTAIN Peter Ferguson, Paradisum

Peter and his wife Kathy have been members of Trident Yacht Club for over 20 years.

Now on their 3rd boat, Paradisum,...Peter and Kathy can be found on the Front Dock, or at their preferred spot in Brakey Bay!

This will be Peter’s third time on the Board and his second ‘attempt’ as Fleet Captain... He enjoyed it so much the last time he came back to try it again!

John and his wife Catherine joined TYC in 2006.

John grew up along the St. Lawrence River, and in 1991 purchased a C&C 29 on his return to the area. In 2003, they purchased their current boat, a 33. Prior to TYC, he spent 13 years at Ivy Lea Inn Marina.

John enjoyed a variety of careers and has now retired. He has been involved in co-operative corporations for the past 35 years and has served on a myriad of volunteer boards including government, non-profit and charitable.

John and Catherine enjoy cruising, and can often be found on the hook in Brakey Bay where they like to walk the island roads.

2019 TYC Board of Directors Nominees Page 6 SOCIAL DIRECTOR Kelly Legault, Kermac IV

For Kelly, sailing has always been a family affair. When she was just months old, she was sailing with her parents (Dave & Judy) on Kermac II, a Northern 25, out of Whitby Yacht Club. When the family moved to Ottawa in 1977, they bought an Ontario 32 and spent all of their weekends and summers hanging out in the 1000 Islands. Kermac IV, an , was bought in 1992 and Kelly helped bring her up from Fort Lauderdale to Kingston that summer. Soon after the family a TYC.

Nowadays, Kelly is introducing and sharing her love of sailing and the beauty of the 1000 Islands with the next generation of Kermac Krew…her husband Sylvain, and her kids Lucas, Chloée, Ève & Jade.

This is Kelly’s second year as social director, and enjoys organizing events,helping to build the Trident community in this way and getting to know everyone at the club in this role. She is also very thankful for all the volunteers that help to make these events happen!!

Kelly lives in Waterloo where she does freelance marketing communications, copywriting and events.

Chris is a retired Information Technology professional residing in Kingston with his partner, Terry. They moved here from Toronto four years ago for the lifestyle and community that Kingston and the Thousand Islands Region provide.

His professional career spanned over 40 years, and his experience was applied to many business scenarios that ranged from technology development and implementation to business transformation of Fortune 500 companies.

He has a strong sense of community involvement and has contributed to charitable organizations and served on numerous boards in various capacities. During his time on a healthcare industry board, he chaired the Nominations Committee, as well as being a member of the Finance Committee and the Quality Customer Care Committee. He also chaired the board of a neighbourhood association focused on growth issues in the area. These appointments involved interactions with many industry leaders and local government officials to satisfy the vision and missions of these boards.

2019 TYC Board of Directors Nominees Page 8 DIRECTOR Maurice Doran, Azimut

Maurice is a self-employed consultant who provides digital signage training and consulting services. He is married to Nathalie Poulin, a French translator and previous TYC secretary. Maurice’s son, Robert, lives in Verdun, Québec.

Maurice’s passion for sailing began in Montreal 35 years ago when he purchased an old, neglected 22’ wooden sloop. After rebuilding the boat with a friend, he moved up to a 29’ wooden sailboat that he also rebuilt and sold before moving to Toronto. This is where he met Nathalie and introduced her to sailing on a chartered Tanzer 22. Over the years, the couple owned several boats and sailed out of Bluffer’s Park Yacht Club in Scarborough. Maurice and Nathalie joined TYC six years ago, and moved to Kingston in 2014.

Their current sailboat, a Hunter 33, called Azimut, is moored at TYC on the Centre Dock. Nathalie and Maurice currently enjoy cruising the Thousand Islands with their dog, Mika.

Dan is an independent IT consultant living Ottawa. He is married to Susan, who works for CIBC Asset Management. They have two children –Lucy lives and works in Toronto in the film visual effects industry, and Oliver is a Business student at Western University in London.

Dan and Susan were members of Nepean Sailing Club for eight years, sailing a C&C 27 before purchasing their Niagara 42, Moose House, and joining Trident in 2014. They enjoy the variety of cruising destinations that the Trident area offers.

Lee and her family joined Trident Yacht Club in 1990. They’ve owned three and are currently sailing a Beneteau 393 named Sentina which can be found at the end of the centre dock.

She has been actively involved with the Club over the last 28 years. She previously served on the Board in 2008 as Social Director. She has been active over the years in planning various Trident social events, including the Final Fling, and her most memorable event, Trident’s 50th Anniversary, where she was one of the event planners..

Lee looks forward to serving as a member of the Board of Directors for 2018—2019.

Jim is a big believer that the premise of a self-help fosters camaraderie and community within a club, and has always endeavoured to volunteer as much as possible in the yacht club he belongs to. Before joining Trident in 2018, Jim and his wife, Ildiko, were members of Etobicoke Yacht Club where they contributed in

excess of 2000 work hours.

While at EYC, Jim served as a Director on the Board for 3 years, and was responsible for the Property portfolio with grounds of 10 acres. As a member and while on the Board, Jim installed the Clean Marine Program, was the oversight on security, participated on the nominating committee for 6 years, and co-chaired launch and haul-out events (with Angie Santullo from Lady Louisa) which involved

planning, prep and serving lunch and break meals for 180 members.

During his career, Jim held several executive roles, primarily VP Sales and General

Management in Metal Distribution/Fabrication. He continues to consult.

Jim and Ildiko sail a CS 34 named Chardonnay. They relocated from Mississauga to Napanee in March 2017. They enjoy being in Eastern Ontario, and especially their new club, Trident Yacht Club. He looks forward to contributing to TYC!
