Fantastc when you think of how weird this season has been and again what’s at our disposal resource wise. While dealing with the heat in Donegal (that’s not something you hear ofen) the lads dug in and ensured we came away with another valuable three points that fre a warning shot across the bows of those immediately surrounding us; we’re not going Premier Division away, you know. All we can do is keep our head down and do the best we 1923/24, 1927/28, 1929/30, can, let everyone else worry about everything else. 1933/34, 1935/36, 1974/75, The upward curve in club fortunes contnued of the feld with the 1977/78, 2000/01, 2002/03, appointment of Daniel Lambert as Chief Operatng Ofcer, a role much 2008, 2009 needed in the club and one which Daniel will relish. He’s done a 1927/28, 1934/35, 1969/70, tremendous job and our media and public profle is through the roof. The 1975/76, 1991/1992, club is well known outside of the country and all for good reasons. League Cup So as we face into choppier waters with three crucial games in three 1974/75, 1978/79, 2009 compettons in nine days (maths equaton unintended untl the lightbulb moment as I typed) we potentally face a dangerous bend in our season. by Paul Walsh gets underway The inaugural Bohemians senior women’s team played their historic frst game in the Women’s Natonal League on Saturday 8 August and Chloe Darby also made history by scoring our frst ever WNL goal. Alas, this goal was to serve as mere consolaton, coming as Bohemians were already behind by four goals to an impressive Wexford Youths team. Their frst home game last Saturday against Galway Women’s Football Club produced an identcal result as the team sufered another 4 -1 loss. However, encouragement can be taken from how compettve Bohs were against one of the top teams in the league despite having a player sent of early on. Galway didn’t not take the lead untl the 52nd minute with Bronagh Kane getng an equalizer two minutes later to give some brief hope of a positve result. Galway pulled away in the end adding a fourth goal in the 89th minute to give a scoreline that perhaps didn’t refect the efort put in by our team. Bohemians have another tough task today as they face the current WNL champions, Peamount Utd. Anto Breslin has setled into the No.3 jersey vacated by Darragh Leahy so comfortably that he looks every inch like he’s been here for years. A series of accomplished performances and a sublime assist for ’s opener against Dundalk have helped established the youngster as a mainstay in the defence. Although only 23, he has a four year stnt in England behind him afer a spell at Wolves and Tamworth as well as one year in Longford. He has represented Ireland with four caps at u16 level, nine at u17 and three more at u19. Speaking before last week’s game at Finn Harps, with fve starts in the opening seven games and 15 points in the league, Anto is happy with the state of play. Like any new boy he is anxious to setle down and show what he can do. “I’m so pleased to be here and consider myself so fortunate to be at such a great club. I am enjoying my football so much and it is great to be back! Lockdown was tough as I felt we were only just getng going. I was stll getng to know the lads and as a team we were just setling down as we showed in the second half against Shelbourne. We didn’t deserve much in , that was the only disappointng performance before the break. When you look back to the Rovers game and their last-minute winner in desperate weather, that game could have gone either way. It was amazing experience, my frst Dublin derby. I had never experienced an atmosphere and a crowd like that! Even in the warm up I was getng the shivers and it certainly wasn’t down to the rain! “There was nothing we could do about the lockdown,” he adds, “and it was the same for every club. Keith told us that we had to make the most of it and work as hard as we could. He was right because now the games are coming thick and fast and all the work we did on weights and the programmes we had are bearing fruit. “The Zoom sessions helped to keep team spirits high though of course you can never match the feeling of being together again and training and playing every day. But they were good for the head too as we used to talk about things, help each other through it. It wasn’t all just work outs.”
