MEDIA RELEASE – 26 November 2015 Today the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation (QATSIF) is proud to announce that 200 Queensland schools have been successful in Round 7 QATSIF Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Scholarships. These scholarships, totalling $2,207,000 will assist 1,208 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Students to graduate from Year 12 with a QCE in 2016/17 Round 7 successful schools are: Metropolitan Region Albany Creek State High School; Woree State High School; Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation (QATSIF) is an independent public foundation established by the Queensland State Government in November 2008 to provide a secure funding source in the form of Years 11 and 12 QCE Scholarships for improved educational outcomes for Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. The Public Trustee of Queensland is the Trustee of the Foundation. QATSIF celebrates the fact that QATSIF Scholarships are contributing to “Closing the Gap” of retention to Year 12 in Queensland. The QATSIF Board of Advice actively promotes support for its programs to the business community and welcomes ongoing philanthropic support for investing in the education of the next generation of Indigenous Australians. QATSIF wishes to acknowledge Aunty Ruth Hegarty as a Patron of QATSIF Aunty Ruth knows the history of QATSIF and QATSIF funds first hand and has added her own comment: I have carefully followed the dedicated work that gives great meaning to the lives (now hundreds) of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from all over Queensland. It is my honour to continue to support QATSIF Scholarships and the students who are helped to achieve results that would otherwise be beyond their expectations. I am optimistic that the future is in good hands. Our youth will not fail us! – Dr Ruth Hegarty Professor Cindy Shannon continues to chair the QATSIF Board of Advice: I am enormously proud that seven years later, QATSIF Students, teachers, the Public Trustee, and Community Members all share the educational dream and vision and work closely for the benefit of the students many more of whom are now completing Year 12 and actually “Closing the Gap” on student retention to Year 12 in Queensland.     The Following Schemes Are Used by Christian Heritage College (CHC) to Provide Adjustments to the Selection Ranks of Applicants T

    The following schemes are used by Christian Heritage College (CHC) to provide adjustments to the selection ranks of applicants to CHC courses for admissions purposes: • CHC Partnership School Scheme; • CHC Community Engagement Scheme; and • Educational Access Scheme (EAS). Applicants must meet all other admission requirements for their preferred courses prior to the adjustments being applied. Only one scheme can be applied to an applicant’s selection rank. The requirements of the schemes, and the adjustments they provide, are explained below. Year 12 applicants can benefit from an adjustment of 2.00 selection ranks by completing Year 12 at a CHC Partner School (see Appendix 1). The CHC Community Engagement Scheme allows an adjustment of 2.00 selection ranks for applicants in CHC’s catchment area, according to their residential postcode (see Appendix 2). The Educational Access Scheme (EAS) allows an adjustment to be applied to the selection rank of applicants who have experienced difficult circumstances that have adversely impacted their studies. To be considered, applicants apply to QTAC for a confidential assessment of their circumstances. As a College, we will never be able to replace her real home, but we do seek to work with you in the provision of a safe, structured environment with clear expectations and guidelines which allow for her growth and learning. For most of our Fairholme boarder parents, the choice to send their daughter away is necessitated by their rural or remote location or seeking out opportunities for a rich and diverse education, not otherwise accessible. We pride ourselves on thinking as a Boarding School, and, as one of the largest in Australia, we know that it is important that we do. Your daughter will become part of a large, vibrant community of girls, girls who will literally become her lifelong friendship network. She will be cared for and nurtured throughout her formative adolescent years; a time when stability, routine and support are deemed vital. Our boarding staff, led by Head of Boarding, Ms Marguerite Dunne have a wealth of experience in working with girls of this age. Whilst they cannot be mum or dad, they are passionately interested in each girl and want to see them achieve their very best in all that they do. There is much to do in all spheres – academic, cultural, sporting and service.     Eamon Hannan – Principal Newsletter 1 August 2012 The Olympic Opening ceremony highlighted the need that our secular world has to explore ritual, liturgy and humour. The taking of the oaths, the lighting of the cauldron, the simple photographic remembering of those who had passed away, speak of people trying to connect with ideals and something greater than our individual selves. Mr Bean and the acting of the Queen showed the value of not taking things too seriously in a delightful British way. The ceremony was moving and uplifting and in many respects spoke of the highest of human ideals. Australian Student Prizes for Vocational Education Congratulations to two senior students from last year who have been awarded Australian Student Prizes for Vocational Education. Kaijah Jenkins and James McCann have both received the award from the Federal Minister for Education Mr Peter Garrett. The award is limited to Dates to remember: 500 students Australia wide and includes a prize of $2000 each. Kaijah and James continue a proud tradition of Australian Student Prize winners at the college in recent years. August Congratulations to Mr Will Cassells who oversees the vocational education program in the 1 P & F Meeting, 6:00 pm college and was responsible for nominating these students. Board Meeting, 7:30 pm 2 Subject Selection evening, Parent teacher night St Pat’s Hall (Year 11 2013) I would like to express my thanks to all involved in the Parent Teacher night last Thursday. If you were unable to meet with staff last week teachers may be contacted by phone and if 10 Enrolment forms for Year 2013 due today necessary alternate interview times arranged.
