Private Concert and Dinner with Orli Shaham and a Special Celebrity Guest

Pianist Orli Shaham is one of the foremost classical soloists active today. She has performed on the world’s leading stages, including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and Chicago’s Symphony Hall, and appeared with leading orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and BBC Symphony Orchestra.

For one night only, she will perform a special concert with a guest celebrity, who is a star in the classical music world, to be announced at the Gala.

The winner will bring 10 guests to a private concert and gourmet dinner at the former New York Police Department headquarters – now classified as a landmark building on the National Register of Historic Places. The concert space was converted from the police commissioner’s office, which housed Theodore Roosevelt and many other historic figures. The venue features sweeping views of downtown Manhattan and stunning architectural details that are rarely on view to the public. The designer who converted the building into residences will be in attendance.

Commission A Piece by Caroline Shaw

Composer, vocalist, violinist, and producer Caroline Shaw is one of the leading musical voices of her generation. In 2013, Caroline became the youngest person ever to win a Pulitzer Prize in music for her piece Partita. has described her music as “dazzling, emotionally generous.”

Recent commissions include new works for Renée Fleming with Inon Barnatan, Dawn Upshaw, the Seattle Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Attacca Quartet, and pianist , among many others.

Now, you have the opportunity to have Caroline write a piece just for you or a loved one! Caroline will compose an original one-minute composition for the solo instrument of your choice. Before writing the piece, she will have a discussion with you to help personalize the composition.

Experience the Production Booth at The Metropolitan Opera

Accompany David Frost, a 16-time Grammy Award winning classical music producer, in the radio booth of The Metropolitan Opera while he broadcasts a live performance of an opera of your choosing during the 2019-20 season.

Prior to the performance, David will provide one lucky individual with a tour of the opera set, orchestra pit, and radio booth, as well as demonstrate how he makes adjustments to microphones and other various acoustical elements to achieve an optimal sound. This priceless experience will provide an opera aficionado or aspiring classical music producer a behind-the-scenes view into how the world’s greatest opera company records its theatrical broadcasts from a technical and musical perspective. Past broadcasts by David have included La Traviata, Tosca, Tristan und Isolde, and many others. David will also provide the winner a signed program from the performance.

Go Behind the Scenes with TOOTSIE

Opening this spring, Tootsie is the eagerly-anticipated musical adaptation of the classic 1982 comedic film, with a score by The Band’s Visit Tony-winner David Yazbek and a book by Robert Horn. Leading the cast is Tony-nominee Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey – and the cast also features Special Music School parent Jeff Kready!

The winner will receive two tickets – plus the opportunity for a third guest to observe the orchestra in the pit during the show.
