$100,000 FUNDRAISING GOAL ACHIEVED FOR THE WARM HEARTS, WARM MEALS CAMPAIGN

San Diego, CA (September 1, 2020) – Cross Border Xpress (CBX), This is About Humanity, the International Community Foundation (ICF) and Richer Poorer proudly announced the successful completion of their Warm Hearts, Warm Meals campaign raising over $100,000 to provide food security for vulnerable families & children at the U.S.-Mexico border. Food insecurity impacts many nations, but is particularly prevalent in Mexico where more than 10% of the population lacks access to adequate food — in nine of the poorest Mexican states, that number jumps to between 25 and 35%.

Driven by the desire to have a positive impact on the wellbeing of the members of its community, CBX launched the Warm Hearts, Warm Meals Campaign with the assistance of ICF, an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire international charitable giving by U.S. donors, with an emphasis on Mexico; with the goal of strengthening civil society and promoting sustainable communities. This is About Humanity, along with its community partner Richer Poorer, were simultaneously launching a food insecurity initiative. During these challenging times, the four organizations decided that collectively, their reach would be far greater in terms of awareness and impact, if all were to join the cause pledging to match up to $25,000 each, converting the campaign into a 3:1 matching grant campaign, thereby quadrupling any amount donated.

“We’re proud to form part of the Cali Baja Bi-National Mega-Region, and provide much needed support during these uncertain times,” affirmed CBX CEO, Jorge Goytortua.

The nonprofits that will be benefited by this campaign will be: Los Niños de Baja , Ciudad de los Niños, Comedor Padre Chava, Casa Madre Assunta, UNICEF, BANATI, Banco de Alimentos de Ensenada, A Su Futuro, Casa del Migrante and Create Purpose. All of them will be addressing food insecurity in their communities through a variety of initiatives including providing items for food pantries and food banks, food cards, nutritional and cooking classes, and food operations and staff during the pandemic. Yolanda Selene Walther-Meade, Co-founder of This is About Humanity, highlights “this innovative cross-border 3:1 matching grant campaign addresses the rise in food insecurity in the most vulnerable communities in Calibaja.”

About This is About Humanity This is About Humanity is a movement whose original mission of raising awareness about separated families has broadened during Covid to include the most expansive definition of vulnerable communities. During the pandemic, TIAH has successfully launched a series of cross-border matching grant initiatives addressing Covid-19 relief, PPE, the LGBTQI+ community and now, food insecurity. Over this 5 month period, TIAH has helped raise close to $500,000 which has been granted out to over 25 non-profit organizations on both sides of the border.
