Muzammel Hossain* and Mohammad Abdul Baki Abstract The present studies the molluscan fauna from twelve sampling stations within two sites of River Brahmaputra in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Survey was carried out from December 2011 Mohammad Abdul Baki to November 2012. During survey period we have collected mollusca by hand packing from Assistant Professor, the study area and identified a total of 15 species. Altogether 15 species (10 gastropod and 5 Department of Zoology, Jagannath University, bivalve species) were recorded during the study period. Among gastropoda Melanoides Dhaka-1100, Bangladesh. tuberculata (Muller), Indoplanorbis exustus (Deshayes) and Bellamya begalensis were most dominant species recorded from all stations and in Bivalve specie Lamellidens marginalis were found at ten stations out of twelve. A middle Hettangian marine gastropod assemblage is reported from the Kenai Peninsula of south-central Alaska supplying new paleontological evidence of this group in Lower Jurassic rocks of North America. Pleurotomaria pogibshiensis sp. nov. is described from the middle Hettangian marine succession informally known as Pogibshi formation, being the first occurrence of the genus in the Kenai Peninsula and the oldest occurrence of the genus in present-day Alaska and North America. One species of the genus Lithotrochus, namely Lithotrochus humboldtii (von Buch), is also reported for the first time from the Kenai Peninsula. These cercariae have a stylet and thus belong to the Xiphidiata. However, such combination of characters as extremely large body size and I-shaped excretory bladder has not been found before in any other xiphidiocercariae. We obtained COI, ITS1, 5.8S + ITS2, and 28S rDNA sequences for C. cattieni 1. The latter allowed us to specify the phylogenetic position of the discovered cercariae: C. cattieni 1 falls within the superfamily Microphalloidea and is most closely grouped to Pachypsolus -

ZooKeys 899: 109–140. https://doi.org/10.3897/ zookeys.899.47070 Abstract Species identified asPillucina are paraphyletic in molecular analyses and a new generic name, Rugalucina, is introduced for a complex of three similar species Rugalucina angela from the northern Indian Ocean and Red Sea, R. vietnamica from South East Asia, and R. munda from northern and north eastern Aus- tralia. Lucina concinna from the Red Sea, previously synonymised with P. vietnamica/angela is recognised as a Rugalucina-like species but with a very short anterior adductor scar. Divaricella cypselis from Karachi is similarly now recognised as a distinct species, probably related to Rugalucina but with oblique com- marginal sculpture and a short adductor scar. A group of minute Indo-West Pacific lucinids with highly unusual multi-cuspate lateral teeth and previously classified asPillucina are separated under a new genus Pusillolucina gen. -

Będzińska 60, 41-200 Sosnowiec, Poland *Correspondence: [email protected] Received: 17th August, 2016 Accepted: 17th November, 2016 Abstract Environmental adaptation of molluscs during evolution has led to form biomineral exoskeleton – shell. The main compound of their shells is calcium carbonate, which is represented by calcite and/or aragonite. The mineral part, together with the biopolymer matrix, forms many types of microstructures, which are differ in texture. Different types of internal shell microstructures are characteristic for some bivalve groups. Studied bivalve species (freshwater species – duck mussel (Anodonta anatina Linnaeus, 1758) and marine species – common cockle (Cerastoderma edule Linnaeus, 1758), lyrate Asiatic hard clam (Meretrix lyrata Sowerby II, 1851) and blue mussel (Mytilus edulis Linnaeus, 1758)) from different locations and environmental conditions, show that the internal shell microstructure with the shell morphology and thickness have critical impact to the ability to survive in changing environment and also to the probability of surviving predator attack. Moreover, more detailed studies on molluscan structures might be responsible for create mechanically resistant nanomaterials.
