And Some Like It Flat Division Crit Champs for the Top Six Places Going to These Riders
THE Yeovil Cycling Club July 2005 Some like it hot... John Andrews Memorial Road Race Final results were: The hottest day of the year, well at least 1. Eamon Deane - Bournemouth Jubilee before last week’s mini heat wave, made Wheelers the John Andrews a race of attrition. The 2. Dean Robson(J) - Somerset Road Club 54 starters set a good pace right from the 3. Jamie Treliving - Team Certini off, with small attacking breaks continually 4. Andrew Hitchens - Mid Devon CC testing the bunch. By the start of the 5. Alex Fitzgerald - Bikin’ Motion fifth lap a small bunch of six riders finally 6. Stephen Atfield - Bournemouth Jubilee managed to stay away. Despite the efforts Wheelers of a few riders to either push the pace, or 7. Stuart Dodd - Team Tor 2000 to make the jump across on their own, the 8. David Meadows - Somer Valley CC small group slowly extended their lead. As 9. Martyn Holmes - Mid Devon CC the heat of the day increased it saw more 10. Kevin Thomas - Severn RC riders fall by the way, even those that had 11. Stuart Jones(J) - Wolverhampton started with plenty of drink were soon Wheelers running dry. Some of the riders that had 12. Paul Gregg - Swindon RC pulled out watched from the road side and 13. Peter Ritchie - Bikin’ Motion passed what drink they had left to team 14. Jon Opie(J) - Team Tor 2000 mates or fellow riders. The main bunch 15. Ian Phillips - CS Dynamo fragmented by the end of the ninth lap, some of the riders that had jumped away Team Prize: Team Tor 2000 re-formed to make a small group with what remained of the main field following on. -
Written Evidence Submitted by Nicole Cooke MBE (BDA0012)
Written evidence submitted by Nicole Cooke MBE (BDA0012) Contents 1.0 Summary 2.0 My experience 3.0 Governance 3.1 Examples of the symptoms of this mal-governance 3.2 Conclusions to issues of Governance 4. 0 Issues relating to Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) 4.1 Background and current status 4.2 Personal experiences 4.3 The international situation 4.4 PEDs removed from exemptions 5.0 Finale I have been asked to submit evidence to the Culture Media & Sport Select Committee. I have requested that part of my evidence is written and present this to accompany the question and answer session. 1.0 Summary I wish to present to you evidence for two problems that you may wish to consider. The first one relates to the governance of a sport that receives annually significant financial support from the public purse and the fact that such funds are not distributed equitably and in a decent manner for the benefit of the whole of the target population. I summarise that as a sport run by men, for men. I have attempted to achieve redress on a number of occasions but have encountered a governance structure at the National Federation – British Cycling - that is not responsible to anyone other than itself for its own actions. It has an Executive Board, but this exerts minimal control of its executive officers and is filled with a majority who approve of the mal-distribution of public funds. The oversight that should be in place via UK Sport is, at best, token. The second relates to how measures and schemes put in place to fight the abuse of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) are inadequate and ineffective in planning, management and execution – the so called “war on PEDs”. -

Live comedy isn’t viewed as being equal to other art forms by funding bodies across the UK — the same funding bodies responsible for distributing this week's £1.57 billion support package. This is despite comedy being a grassroots creative industry, which is accessible and inclusive to all, no matter your income, where you live, or your sense of humour. Ticket prices are cheaper than almost any other artform, and comedy takes place in every nation and region of the country, in dedicated spaces but also in pubs, music venues, and theatres in every town and city. We believe that comedy is art and should be treated as such. As fans, audience members, and those who work in live comedy, we therefore ask: 1. -

List of Members 2 HISTORY OF THE HEREFORD AND DISTRICT WHEELERS CYCLING CLUB Early Cycling in Herefordshire Although there is general agreement that the design of today’s bicycle is little different to some produced in the latter stages of the 19th century, there are many competitors claiming the final definition of what was called the safety machine. John Kemp Starley (1854-1901) was certainly in the forefront of these. By 1885 he had established the Rover – a triangular frame, 36 inch wheel at the front, 30 inch in the rear and a chain drive from a chain wheel to the rear hub. In September 1885 George Smith rode 100 miles in a little over seven hours five minutes on this bike. In the 1890s Starley established the Rover Cycle Company – the ancestor of the Rover Car Company. So our sport goes back a long way. Towards the end of the century cycle racing had become popular. The picture shows three racing machines on Edgar Street Football Ground (with Conningsby Hospital in the background) circa 1895; a Raleigh the mount of Edward Howell, the Raleigh agent for many years in Commercial Road; Harry Matthews with a R. -
