We look forward to your continued support and encouragement 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India IMPORTANTEVENTS SPECIAL ADOPTATHONS JULY 2017 @ FORUM MALL, VADAPALANI OCTOBER 2017 @ EXPRESS AVENUE, ROYAPETTAH 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India `DECEMBER 2017 @ PHOENIX MALL,VELACHERY WATER BOWL PROJECT - WATER BOWL FOR ANIMALS & BIRDS Blue Cross of India's annual project was a huge success, once again. Free water bowl distribution has engaged a lot of volunteer participation and helped thousands of animals quench their thirst. 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India TACTICAL RESCUES Animals are often found trapped in ways that they cannot get out by themselves. Poor urban landscaping, ignorance about the dangers of improper construction and lack of care for one's animals are just some of the reasons. Some staff members and volunteers of Blue Cross of India are trained to rescue animals from such situations. They work as a team and save lives. This is apart from the thousands of routine rescues done by the BCI rescue teams in and around the city. Over the past year, we've successfully executed many tactical rescues that includes rescuing four goats from a cliff, multiple cats, dogs and cattle from wells and other accident cases. Here are a few such rescues: 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India COW REMOVED FROM CEMENT TANK It was one of the hottest noons in Chennai. We were baffled when we saw the cow's condition. She occupied most of the space, was trapped in a six-foot-deep pit and fixed in one position. Moreover, she had a cataract in one eye. We used ropes in place of webs due to lack of space. Her rescue operation was divided in two groups. One team had to lift her weight while the other had to pull her out of the pit. The first team used logs connected to the belt while the second used a pulley system. We are grateful to the locals who helped us. SIX BUFFALOS RESCUED FROM CHEPAUK MRTS AFTER A TRAIN ACCIDENT Six buffaloes that lost their way and made it on to the track were hit by an early morning train. Passersby informed us around 9 a.m. and we began the rescue soon after. While two buffalos were found dead, others suffered pelvic and spinal injuries in which one went through a severe miscarriage. 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India It was saddening to see how lack of protection in urban landscapes caused so much pain. The rescue operation took lace for 16 hours where our volunteers, staffand veterinarians worked to bring them down safely. A MOTHER AND HER CALF RESCUED FROM A WELL A calf fell into a narrow 15 feet deep well. On top of her, her mother fell too. They were stuck there for six hours before we were informed. `We rushed to the location and immediately pulled them to safety. Our rescuers used webs to reduce strain on the animal. Luckily they were uninjured and handed over to the owners soon after. 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India OUR VOLUNTEERS-PILLARS OF SUPPORT!!! An Animal Welfare Organization can do a lot more with the support of volunteers. We are indeed lucky to have many volunteers who give their time, efforts and resources to help us help the animals. We regularly conduct volunteer induction sessions at our shelter to guide them to help us in our shelter. Trained and skilled volunteers often go for conducting special rescues with our General Manager (Rescues). We are thankful to all of our volunteers for offering us their services. 54th Annual Report - Blue of Cross India CATTLE CONSUMING PLASTICS – PLASTIC COW Rumen Impaction is a condition which results from the accumulation of the indigestible materials like Plastic Bags, Jute Ropes, Leather piece etc in the rumen which interfered with flow of ingesta leading to distension of the rumen and passing of scanty or no faeces. The factors that are responsible for higher incidence of non-metallic foreign bodies is due to rapid industrialization, increase in the garbage disposal mostly in plastic bags and letting the animal loose for grazing , insufficient feeding of the animals by the owner. Moreover the other reason also non-availability of Pasteur and Grazing land due to urbanization and rearing of cattle in the Metropolitan cities like Chennai and Owners letting the animal loose in the Cities. Ingestion of metallic foreign bodies in adult dairy cattle can result in a variety of affections and syndromes that may impair reticuloruminal motility, Traumatic Reticulo Peritonitis caused by penetration of a metallic foreign body through the reticular wall causing perireticular inflammation. Emptying the rumen by Rumotomy is considered as rapid and quick remedy for relieving the problem of Rumen Impaction with Foreign bodies like plastics, nylon ropes, metallic objects etc and restoring the normal ruminal function to save the animal. His Excellency Samdech Techo Hun Sen Prime Minister of Cambodia Office of the Prime Minister Royal Government of Cambodia Government Peace Building No. 38, Confederation Russia Blvd (110) Phnom Penh Cambodia [email protected] May 22, 2020 Re: The Threat of the Dog Meat Trade to Cambodia Dear Prime Minister Hun Sen, We are writing on behalf of the Asia for Animals Coalition, representing international animal welfare and conservation organizations regarding our concerns about the dog meat trade in Cambodia and its threat to public health, in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the worsening situation of the pandemic globally and throughout Southeast Asia, with 45,2091 human coronavirus infections in the region to date, the mass trafficking, sale, and slaughter of companion animals often alongside wild animals throughout the Kingdom continues unchallenged. The dog meat trade is rampant in Cambodia, involving the slaughter and consumption of up to 3 million dogs each year, many of them stolen pets, with an unknown number trafficked regularly into neighboring Vietnam. Research suggests that only 12% of Cambodians regularly consume dog meat, and consumption remains a controversial practice among Khmer people.2 The dog meat trade has proven to be a significant threat to public health, facilitating the transmission of deadly diseases including rabies, cholera, and trichinella. The trade also directly undermines Cambodia’s rabies control efforts and disrupts any attempts at achieving herd immunity through mass canine vaccination programs. Despite growing global public health concerns regarding live animal interfaces and wet markets and the potential for the emergence of novel and deadly viruses, the dog meat trade in Cambodia continues to operate - even in the face of mounting calls to end this trade.

BLUE CROSS OF INDIA th 50 ANNUAL REPORT APRIL 1, 2013 to MARCH 31, 2014 www.bluecrossofindia.org BLUE CROSS OF INDIA (Recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India, Govt. of India) Founders: Capt. V. Sundaram & Mrs. Usha Sundaram The 50th Anniversary of an organisation is not too common an occurrence for most organisations and even rarer for animal welfare groups. This is also an appropriate time to sit down and see what we have really achieved in the last half-century and what we should try to achieve in the next. It is also an even rarer event that five of the original nine founders are still around, with three of them actively involved in the work they began. The other two, in their nineties, are still with us in spirit but even more importantly, the spirit of the four no longer in our presence, guides us in what we do today. Regd. Established to alleviate the suffering of animals, it has grown from small beginnings to become one of India’s largest animal welfare organisations, running active animal welfare, animal rights and humane education programmes. At the time of its founding, there were only two kinds of animal welfare organizations in India – the majority were goshalas for cattle and the rest were SPCAs started by the British. Most of the latter only prosecuted cases of overloading of animal-drawn vehicles or for using sick and unfit animals to draw these carts.

  • The Blue Cross of India 52Nd Annual Report 1St April 2015 to 31St March 2016 Blue Cross of India 1
The Blue Cross of India 52nd Annual Report 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2016 Blue Cross of India 1 Report of the Governing Body for year ended March 31, 2015 The Members of the Governing Body are delighted to present the Annual Report and the accounts for the year ended March 31, 2016. The year has been truly exciting and fruitful with some amazing wins for the animals we are here to serve. We also suffered some major losses during the floods of December 2015 where thousands of animals died and suffered. We were fortunate in being able to save several thousand animals with the amazing help of our volunteers under the leadership of Dawn William. Needless to mention that well overa thousand people were helped by us with our volunteers taking them in our boat and inflatables and distributing water and food to them. Chennai came together during the floods like never before and it is sad that it took a disaster of this magnitude to show up what the people of Chennai could do if we all work together. The damage suffered to the infrastructure at our Guindy center is being slowly set right but it will take another six months at least to finish the work. The Platinum rating from GuideStar India - the highest rating for transparency for an NGO – was renewed this year by Guide Star India. The great help from the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust, VierPfoten, Bruno Memorial Trust, CHAL-USA and the Rukmini Devi Arundale Trust has helped us rise to the next level and we are deeply indebted to them.

Many major policies and schemes are implemented in the state meeting the comprehensive development of rural and urban areas in capacity building, accessing funds for infrastructure development, providing basic civic services in order to improve the physical quality of life of the people. The urban as well as the rural local bodies strive hard with self generated revenues and support of Government grants and funds to achieve the above. After entrustment of audit to C&AG by the Government, the challenging task of auditing the urban local bodies and the panchayat raj institutions who are carrying out increasingly diverse number of activities is set on us. To meet the above challenges the audit manual serves as an important tool to enable the auditors to have first hand information of various functions of auditee institutions by disseminating information of their activities.
