15 Ball up. The Umpire crosses his/her hands with palms to opposite shoulders whilst calling for the ball usually saying “Mine”. The ball is caught in the contest for the ball and in the opinion of the Umpire the ball can not escape the contest. In under 8’s there is no diving onto the ball. The Umpire stops play and a free kick is awarded to the nearest player in opposition to the player diving on the ball. In other age groups the Umpire stops play sends the players back to positions and tosses the ball up in a vertical direction to recommence play.

16 Kicking of the ground. The Umpire swings his/her right leg in a pendulum motion backward and forward just above the ground. In Under 8’s though to Under 11’s a player is not permitted to deliberately kick the ball off the ground a free kick is awarded against the player so doing. This rule is used to promote the skill of gathering the ball off the ground.
