Australian Diamonds
The depth in Australia’s playing ranks is the best it has been for some time thanks to the ANZ Champion- ships. Coach Plummer has difficult choices in all areas of the court. This is a wonderful headache to have. Many of the younger players have risen in standard as they are challenged each week in their respective ANZ teams. Playing at this level week in and week out has meant Australia has an abundance of talent to call on. It is this aspect which gives Australia the advantage as they head into the games as favourites.
The 22 player Australian squad consists of:
Caitlin Basset Emily Beaton Kate Beveridge Shae Bolton
Madison Browne Bianca Chatfield
Julie Corletto Catherine Cox
Johannah Curran Susan Fuhrmann Laura Geitz Mo`onia Gerrard Kimberlee Green Renae Hallinan Sharelle McMahon (C) Natalie Medhurst
Chelsey Nash Lauren Nourse
Susan Pratley Joanne Sutton
Caitlin Thwaites Natalie von Bertouch (VC)
The Holden Test Series against the New Zealand Silver Ferns lived up to the expectations of all netball fans with a game all after the first two matches. The Australian Diamonds took the lead in the series with a 3 goal win in Brisbane on 13th September, 2009 and finished off with a nail-biting 1 goal win in Invercargill on 19th September, 2009. The final game of the series will be held on Wednesday, 23rd September, 2009.
