January 2015 Brought to you by:February 2015 March 2015

April 2015 It doesn't seem possible that we are already through one month of 2015. Working on this May 2015 newsletter made me realize that Topeka, really does have it going on! It just keeps growing. Welcome to February! ThisJune is 2015 never my favorite month! It always takes a little bit more energy to get through it. Looking atJuly my 2015 schedule, I might need a lot more energy! Better time managment is going to be my 2015 goal. I won't get through the next couple months without it!! August 2015

September 2015

October 2015

November 2015

December 2015 January 2016 Kim's Excellent Adventures February 2016 New Theatre: I hadn't been to this theatre since it was acutally "New". My friend Frankie invited Chelsea and I to go see, Shear Madness. I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I lovedMarch it! It 2016was hilarious! The food was awesome and it was great getting to spend some time with Chelsea. I plan on getting tickets to Hairspray this summer! After this show, they did a complete remodel, I can't wait to see what they did!

After Christmas Shopping day in KC with Chelsea: Before we went to see Shear Madness, Chelsea and I took the day to do some window shopping. I was gone most of December so we really didn't get to hang out much. I love these days!!

Dogsitting: I spent Dec 25th to Jan 4th in KC Dogsitting for my friends. It gave me some time to hang out with my KC friends! I stayed home for New Years this year. I was just so tired form all the Christmas stuff!

Mundane Monday: My friend Ryan and I have been grabbing a beer almost every Monday for a year. When you are self employeed, you don't always get to relax on the weekends. We normally just grab a beer but this night, I hadn't eaten because I worked late, so we went to Pigskins for some BBQ! YUM!!

Last minute Wichta trip: I just attended Brianna's wedding and now it was her 21st birthday. JJ had called to see if I wanted to join them in Wichita for a night of celebration and dance. I booked a room on Priceline and was ready to dance. Unfortunately Brianna came down with the stomach flu so those plans were cancelled. I however was able to make plans with my cousin and my friend Randy, who was visiting family that weekend. I met my Cousin, Chad, my Aunt Terry and my friend April for reservations at Chester's Chophouse and Wine bar. I would compare this locally owned restaurant to Ruth Chris but maybe a little better!! You buy your steak and then the sides are served family style! My Filet was AWESOME!! After dinner, Chad and I met up with Randy and just hung out. The next day, Chad and I went out for lunch and then I drove home. The trip didn't go as planned but I was happy to get to spend more time with my Wichita family!!

Touring the Capitol: My kids use to love to tour the Capitol. Kolton and I are trying to make one special outing a month. January was the Capitol. If you haven't been there, you really need to go. I was not happy to find out that they no longer have weekend tours and walks to the top. The biggest tour attraction in the State of Kansas and it pretty much is closed on the weekends. This means that traveling guests and working parents don't really have a chance to enjoy that part of the Capitol. They complain that small locally owned downtown businesses aren't open on the weekends, yet our Capitol doesn't offer a reason to bring people downtown on the weekends. It doesn't take a genius to recognize that we aren't doing something right!!

Sawyer Brown Concert: I hadn't seem Sawyer Brown in Concert since 2006 at Kentucky Country Stampede. I worked back stage as the caterer. I remember watching them on Star Seach in 1983, I think. Before the show we met at El Centerino for dinner. Just my luck, I was taking to my friend Jim about the concert and the entrie band was seated right behind me. AWKWARD!! The concert was really good. I had forgotten just how fun they are in concert!

Topeka Civic Theatre: I ended the month with, Don't Dress for Dinner! A hilarious show! We started out at Cook's American Grill for dinner. I enjoyed a great turkey Reuben sandwich with onion rings! I remember watching the show the first time they did it at TCT. Good times!!

Barnes & Noble in Topeka, KS Kicks Off Annual “My Favorite Teacher Contest”

Middle & High School Students Nominate Their Teachers for National, Regional and Local Awards

National Winner and Their School to Split $10,000 in Cash Prizes and More

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced the start of the 2014-2015 “Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest,” which provides middle and high school students the opportunity to tell their communities how much they appreciate their teachers.

Students can nominate their teacher by writing essays, poems or thank-you letters that share how their teacher has influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire their teacher. Participating schools collect the essays and submit them to their local Barnes & Noble store for consideration. Entries will be judged on the compelling nature of the teacher’s qualities, the sincerity of the student’s appreciation and the quality of expression and writing.

Teachers from grades 1 through 12 are eligible for nomination. Awards include cash prizes for the teachers and schools, NOOK® devices and more. The contest is broken down into local and regional winners, from which the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year will be chosen.

The local winning teacher will be recognized in the spring at an event at their local Barnes & Noble store, where they will receive a special award acknowledging their achievement and additional recognition and praise from their community. The student who wrote the winning essay or poem will receive a certificate of recognition and also be honored at the ceremony.

Each regional winner will receive a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card and a NOOK. From the pool of regional winners, Barnes & Noble will name one teacher the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year. The winning teacher will receive $5,000 and the title of “Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher of the Year.” The national winner will be recognized at a special community celebration at their local Barnes & Noble store, and the winning teacher’s school will receive $5,000.

“Winning the Barnes & Noble Teacher of the Year felt unbelievable,” said Sarah Morris, the 2014 national winner from Hazelbrook Middle School in Tualatin, OR. “It has truly been the highlight of my teaching career. To have a student articulate in an essay everything I hoped I was accomplishing as a teacher, and then win this title... it's beyond words. I will forever be thankful and honored for the recognition.”

Barnes & Noble has long supported teachers through Educator Appreciation Weeks, special discounts, personalized service, in-store events, bookfairs, store tours for classrooms, and, since 2011, the My Favorite Teacher Contest.

The Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest begins September 8, 2014, and ends March 1, 2015. Students who want to participate must submit their essay or poem to their local Barnes & Noble store by March 1. Only middle and high school students and active teachers employed in elementary, middle or high schools in the are eligible to win. More details on the contest can be obtained by contacting Dick Nelson, CBDM, at [email protected] or by visiting www.bn.com/myfavoriteteacher.
