Viva-Voce Committee _____________________________ Dean _____________________________ Chairman/Director/Head ______________________________ External Examiner _______________________________ Internal Examiner _______________________________ Supervisor ABSTRACT This is a historical, critical and longitudinal method of studying about the Tanzim-i-Islami, founded by Dr Israr Ahmad (1932-2010) on 29 April 1975 unlike many other Islamic movements, TI has not yet been undergone academic analysis. It is neither a religious sect nor political party in a real sense, as it believes that the social aspect of Islam seeks culmination through the use of political power with responsibility for the service and welfare of human beings in the shape of Khilafat on national and international levels. Its foundation was laid down as a result of the political dispute between Israr Ahmad and Sayyid Abu’l A‘la Mawlana Mawdudi (1903-79) in April 1957. Shakhsi bai‘at (personal adherence) Munfarid Rufaqa (Isolated members), nizam -i-usra’ (Family Unit System), Local Tanzim , Nizam -i-Halqajat (Circle System) and Central System distinguishes it from the framework of Jama'at-i-Islami on the basis of the masur (continuous practice by people ), masnun (according to the Sunnah ) and mansus (according to the Qur’an ). It produced a lot of literature to educate, motivate and prepare the public in general and its followers in particular. In March1991, it also started Khilafat movement to achieve the mission according to its philosophy and enhanced efforts to achieve the Khilafat in Pakistan. This research work explores how Tanzim-i-Islami has mobilized the educated Muslim Pakistani Community for the establishment of Khilafat and the influence of philosophy of TI work on the Muslims educated society of Pakistan. This dissertation also helps to introduce the TI, its evolution, structure, working setup, socio-religious, political and philosophical aspects for the educated Muslims inside and outside the State of Pakistan.     Understanding Iqbal’s Educational Thought Fareeha Nudrat ∗ & Muhammad Saeed Akhtar ∗∗ Abstract The paper presents an overview of Iqbal’s philosophy and its application to educational process. His philosophy has tremendous significance not only for Pakistan educational system, but for the entire world. The nucleus of Iqbal’s philosophy on which the whole educational process builds, is the concept of self-identity (khudi) that strengthens the individual’s innate powers to realize his full potentials towards goodness. His theory of education is subordinated to his fundamental philosophical thought rooted in Islam that (i) ultimate reality is Allah (swt); (ii) ultimate source of knowledge is revelation (wahi); and (iii) ultimate value is unconditional surrender before the will of Allah (swt). As the paper is aimed to provide only some glimpses of Iqbal’s educational thought in an outline form, it warrants a comprehensive and detailed study on the reconstruction of educational thought in the context of Iqbalian philosophy. Key words: Philosophy, Educational Theory, Educational Process Introduction Iqbal is not only a renowned thinker on education; he, in fact, practiced his thought. He taught in the institutions of higher learning both in the sub-continent and European world. During the past year, Iran has continued its efforts to extend its influence abroad by strengthening strategic ties with key players in international affairs, including Brazil and Turkey. Iran also continues to defy the international community through its tenacious pursuit of a nuclear program. The Lebanese Shi‛a militant group Hizballah, meanwhile, persists in its efforts to expand its regional role while stockpiling ever more advanced weapons. Sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shi‛a has escalated in places like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain, and not least, Pakistan. As a hotbed of violent extremism, Pakistan, along with its Afghan neighbor, has lately received unprecedented amounts of attention among academics and policymakers alike. While the vast majority of contemporary analysis on Pakistan focuses on Sunni extremist groups such as the Pakistani Taliban or the Haqqani Network—arguably the main threat to domestic and regional security emanating from within Pakistan’s border—sectarian tensions in this country have attracted relatively little scholarship to date.     A Direct Flight to Revolution: Maududi, Divine Sovereignty, and the -Moment in Iran∗ SIMON WOLFGANG FUCHS Abstract This article explores the engagement of the Pakistani Jamaʿat-i Islami (JI) with the Iranian Revolu- tion. I argue that the Islamist JI was drawn to the events because it reflected a core concern and signature idea of Abu ’l-Aʿla Maududi, namely to establish the sovereignty of God (hakimiyya) on earth. My analysis of various travelogues and JI publications from the s demonstrates that JI observers were deeply familiar with internal revolutionary dynamics and Iran’s Shiʿi identity. The prospect of seeing a proper Islamic system in action, with potentially global consequences for their cause, initially crowded out any sectarian concerns for the JI. At the same time, certain JI leaders began to voice criticism of what they perceived as rash revolutionary policies that differed from Maududi’s careful, irenic understanding of a proper Islamic revolution. They also took note of sectarian messages that damaged Iran’s ecumenical outreach. It was, however, the more general geopolitical climate in the Middle East and South Asia which forced the JI to publicly downplay its ties with Iran. By the late s, being accused of harbouring affinities for the ‘deviant Islam’ of Shiʿism was a charge that had to be avoided at all costs in Pakistan and beyond.     CITIZENSHIP GOVERNANCE The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAA Bill) was first introduced in 2016 in Lok Sabha by amending the Citizenship Act of 1955. This bill was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, whose report was later submitted on January 7, 2019. The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed on January 8, 2019, by the Lok Sabha which lapsed with the dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha. This Bill was introduced again on 9 December 2019 by the Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah in the 17th Lok Sabha and was later passed on 10 December 2019. The Rajya Sabha also passed the bill on 11th December. The CAA was passed to provide Indian citizenship to the illegal migrants who entered India on or before 31st December 2014. The Act was passed for migrants of six different religions such as Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Any individual will be considered eligible for this act if he/she has resided in India during the last 12 months and for 11 of the previous 14 years. For the specified class of illegal migrants, the number of years of residency has been relaxed from 11 years to five years. CAA 2019 Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 gets Parliament’s nod. What is Citizenship? Citizenship defines the relationship between the nation and the people who constitute the nation. It confers upon an individual certain rights such as protection by the state, right to vote, and right to hold certain public offices, among others, in return for the fulfillment of certain duties/obligations owed by the individual to the state.

    Reforms in Religious Madaris of Pakistan Fakhr-ul-Islam Abstract The present paper is devoted to reforms in the Religious Madaris in Pakistan The quest for these reforms has come from various quarters and has been prompted by different considerations. The West, particularly the United States, wishes to secularize and reform these Madaris so that their graduates are no longer inspired by a passion for Jihad nor are they inclined to militancy. The Pakistani Government, apart from its own desire, to modernize the system, is pursuing donor-driven agenda regarding the introduction of reforms in these institutions. Besides these extraneous elements, .there is also a desire for change, coming from Madaris themselves which is a welcome sign.1 Can we benefit from the experience of any other country and replicate their reforms programme in our Madaris? All these issues have been examined and analyzed in the paper in hand.
