GAME 6 – LSU (3‐2) vs. Rhode Island (4‐1) – 2:30 p.m. ET, 1:30 p.m. CT Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic Montego Bay Convention Centre November 24, 2019 LAST GAME: No. 15 UTAH STATE 80, LSU 78 (NOV. 22 – MONTEGO BAY) LSU was unable to hold the advantage it built up and in the end the loss to Utah State had the exact margin as the loss on the road earlier in the month to VCU – two points. In that game, LSU took the lead back at 82‐81 with 41 seconds left before VCU took the lead for good on free throws after a VCU player was fouled on a three‐point attempt. LSU lost that game, 84‐82. In the Utah State game, after the Aggies had come back to take the lead, the Tigers were able to get a 78‐77 lead back with 2:21 to play, but Utah State hit a three with 57 seconds left for the final margin of the game. The game was the fourth time in 44 games in the Will Wade era (including the VCU game) that LSU has lost when outshooting the opponent from the field. It was the second loss in 11 games in the same time period when LSU has had 10+ three‐point field goals. SKYLAR MAYS The senior from Baton Rouge had a career night with 30 points on 10‐of‐13 shooting (5‐of‐6 from the arc and 5‐of‐5 from the free throw line. He had one assists, three rebounds and three steals. His previous high was 24 points in the overtime win at Missouri on Jan. 26, 2019. It was 11th career game of 20‐or‐more points. In field goals (he had eight earlier this year for the second time in his career at VCU) and three‐ pointers made (previous high was four in a game six times). It was the first time a Tiger player had scored 30 since Tremont Waters had 36 at Texas A&M on Jan. 30, 2019 and it was the fifth 30‐point game in Will Wade’s tenure at LSU. It was the first time an LSU player had 10 field goals in a contest since Naz Reid had 11 against Florida in the SEC Tournament (March 15, 2019) and the last time someone hit five treys in a game was in the season finale against Vanderbilt last year when Darius Days had five. Entering Sunday’s game, Mays is averaging 19.6 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. He needs two points to top 1,200 for his career (he is 30th all‐time in scoring). Mays is 16th in free throws made with 294 and he needs two steals to crack the top 10 in steals all‐time at LSU. With his five makes on Friday, Mays is 294‐of‐350 for his career or 84.0 percent. That is T3 all‐ time at LSU in career free throw percentage. Mays became the third player in the Wade era to hit five or more treys in a contest. DARIUS DAYS, EMMITT WILLIAMS The two forwards combined to make 11‐of‐17 shots against Utah State with 15 rebounds and 3‐ of‐5 from the arc. Days was +7 and Williams +8 in the +/‐ category for the game. Days is averaging 12.8 points a game and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 61.9 percent from the floor (26‐42). Williams is averaging 12.8 points as well (both have scored 64 points in five games this year), with a 7.2 rebound average. Williams is hitting at a 59.5 percent clip (22‐37). His free throw shooting continues to be way up at 81.8 percent (18‐of‐22) compared to 68.6 percent a year ago. TRENDON WATFORD For the first time against Utah State, the freshman did not score in double figures, finishing with eight points on 2‐of‐6 shooting. Watford is averaging 11.6 points a game and 6.2 rebounds a contest. Watford was better at the free throw line Friday night, making 3‐of‐4 to up his season percentage to 14‐ of‐22 (63.6%). JAVONTE SMART The sophomore is trying to find his way back to double figures as three straight games, but he had eight against Utah State with a team high four turnovers and was one of three players with three steals in the contest. Smart his early for LSU, but finished the game at 3‐of‐14 from the field with two treys. Smart is averaging 10.4 points a game, 3.8 rebounds. He is just 6‐of‐23 outside the arc so far this season. PAINT POINTS With three games with 40‐plus paint points this season in the first four, LSU was only able to get 24 points in the paint against Utah State. Of course, some of that was because LSU was successful, especially in the first half, outside the arc. LSU is averaging 39.2 points in the paint in the first two games. INSIDE THE ARC LSU was just 50 percent inside the arc against Utah State (17‐of‐34), but in the last three games, including the Utah State game, the Tigers are shooting 61.7 percent inside the arc, including 68+ percent earlier this week against UMBC. For the season, LSU is 58.2% inside the arc, up from last year’s 52.9% average. LSU is 20th in the country in two‐point field goal percentage. TIGERS HAVE FEW DAYS BEFORE NEXT CONTEST The Tigers will have a few days to prepare for the end of the first part of the schedule that will lead into semester exams. LSU will host three games in 10 days beginning on Friday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. against Missouri State. That game will be streamed on SECN+ and broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network. Tickets are available at LSUtix.net. LSU will then host UNO on Dec. 3 and Northwestern State on Dec. 8 before the Tigers take a break for exams. 2019-20 LSU Men's Basketball Page 1/1 Points-Rebounds-Assists as of Nov 23, 2019 LSU Points-Rebounds-Assists 0 1 2 4 5 10 Opponent Date Score DAYS,DARIU SMART,JAVO WATFORD,TR MAYS,SKYLA WILLIAMS,E BISHOP,JAM Bowling Green 11/08/19 88-79 W 13-7-0 21-8-5 10-7-1 18-8-3 21-7-1 0-0-1 at VCU 11/13/19 82-84 L 10-4-2 15-3-3 11-4-0 23-8-3 9-3-1 4-0-0 Nicholls St. 11/16/19 75-65 W 17-11-0 3-2-5 17-5-1 18-8-3 11-12-1 0-0-0 UMBC 11/19/19 77-50 W 10-10-2 5-3-2 12-12-1 9-3-3 9-6-2 9-0-4 vs Utah St. 11/22/19 78-80 L 14-7-2 8-3-4 8-3-3 30-3-1 14-8-1 0-0-0 11 12 15 21 Opponent Date Score MANNING, J GRAVES,MAR HYATT,AUND COOPER,COU Bowling Green 11/08/19 88-79 W 3-4-0 0-0-0 2-3-0 0-0-0 at VCU 11/13/19 82-84 L 10-5-0 0-0-0 0-7-0 DNP Nicholls St. 11/16/19 75-65 W 9-6-2 DNP 0-0-0 0-0-0 UMBC 11/19/19 77-50 W 16-3-0 3-1-0 0-5-0 4-5-0 vs Utah St. 11/22/19 78-80 L 4-6-1 DNP 0-0-0 DNP 2019-20 LSU Men's Basketball Page 1/1 Extended Season Box Score as of Nov 23, 2019 All games Game Records Record Overall Home Away Neutral ALL GAMES 3-2 3-0 0-1 0-1 CONFERENCE 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 NON-CONFERENCE 3-2 3-0 0-1 0-1 Team Box Score Extended Total 3-Point F-Throw Rebounds No. Player GP-GS MIN AVG FG-FGA FG% 3FG-FGA 3FG% FT-FTA FT% OFF DEF TOT AVG PF DQ A A/G TO TO/G A/TO BLK BLK/G STL STL/G PTS AVG 4 MAYS, Skylar 5-5 170:26 34.1 35-60 .583 9-21 .429 19-23 .826 5 25 30 6.0 8 0 13 2.60 15 3.00 0.87 2 0.40 13 2.60 98 19.6 0 DAYS, Darius 5-5 132:42 26.5 26-42 .619 7-20 .350 5-8 .625 17 22 39 7.8 19 1 6 1.20 5 1.00 1.20 2 0.40 1 0.20 64 12.8 5 WILLIAMS, Emmitt 5-3 133:13 26.6 22-37 .595 2-4 .500 18-22 .818 11 25 36 7.2 15 1 6 1.20 12 2.40 0.50 8 1.60 8 1.60 64 12.8 2 WATFORD, Trendon 5-5 151:28 30.3 20-45 .444 4-12 .333 14-22 .636 6 25 31 6.2 12 0 6 1.20 24 4.80 0.25 2 0.40 2 0.40 58 11.6 1 SMART, Javonte 5-5 158:13 31.6 16-50 .320 6-23 .261 14-18 .778 4 15 19 3.8 14 0 19 3.80 22 4.40 0.86 1 0.20 6 1.20 52 10.4 11 MANNING, JR., Charles 5-2 133:31 26.7 15-34 .441 3-9 .333 9-12 .750 6 18 24 4.8 10 0 3 0.60 7 1.40 0.43 8 1.60 2 0.40 42 8.4 10 BISHOP, James 5-0 43:38 8.7 5-8 .625 1-2 .500 2-5 .400 0 0 0 0.0 3 0 5 1.00 6 1.20 0.83 0 0.00 1 0.20 13 2.6 21 COOPER, Courtese 3-0 20:00 6.7 2-2 1.000 0-0 .000 0-0 .000 2 3 5 1.7 2 0 0 0.00 0 0.00 0.00 3 1.00 0 0.00 4 1.3 12 GRAVES, Marshall 3-0 14:60 5.0 1-2 .500 1-2 .500 0-0 .000 0 1 1 0.3 1 0 0 0.00 2 0.67 0.00 0 0.00 1 0.33 3 1.0 15 HYATT, Aundre 5-0 41:49 8.4 1-11 .091 0-9 .000 0-0 .000 4 11 15 3.0 6 0 0 0.00 2 0.40 0.00 1 0.20 1 0.20 2 0.4 Total 5 1000 143-291 .491 33-102 .324 81-110 .736 60 150 210 42.0 90 2 58 11.60 98 19.60 0.59 27 5.40 35 7.00 400 80.0 Opponents 5 1000 118-318 .371 47-144 .326 75-100 .750 58 107 165 33.0 92 - 65 13.00 70 14.00 0.93 11 2.20 47 9.40 358 71.6 Score by Periods Team 1st 2nd OT TOT LSU 205 195 0 400 Opponents 178 180 0 358 2019-20 LSU Men's Basketball Page 1/1 Combined Team Statistics as of Nov 23, 2019 All games Game Records Score by Periods Record Overall Home Away Neutral Team 1st 2nd OT TOT ALL GAMES 3-2 3-0 0-1 0-1 LSU 205 195 0 400 CONFERENCE 0-0 0-0 0-0 0-0 NON-CONFERENCE 3-2 3-0 0-1 0-1 Opponents 178 180 0 358 Team Box Score Total 3-Point F-Throw Rebounds No.
