He averaged just over 15 points and 4.5 rebounds in the four games in Spain. Watford led Mountain Brook to three consecutive Class 7A state championships (2017, 2018, 2019) and aver- aged 23.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists during his senior season. He finished his career in the top 10 in scoring in AHSAA history and set an AHSAA record with 1,909 career rebounds. He played in both the McDonald’s All-America game and the Jordan Brands Classic. Watford is on the Karl Malone watch list in the preseason. Trendon had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the exhi- bition game at LA Tech.

CHARLES MANNING, JR. It was after the exhibition tour of Spain in August that Coach Will Wade noted the good play of Charles Manning, Jr., in his first year at LSU after coming here from Florida SouthWestern State where he was named a third team NJCAA All-America after the 2018-19 season. The 6-5 guard averaged 9.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in the four games in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona. In the exhibition game at Louisiana Tech this past Saturday, Manning scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting with one trey, three rebounds and three assists.

SEASON OPENERS LSU is 91-20 in opening games going into the contest with Bowling Green and has won five straight openers dating back to a 92-90 loss at UMass to open the 2013-14 season. LSU last lost an opening night game that was played in Baton Rouge in 1986 when the Tigers fell to TCU.

RETURNING NUMBERS Despite the top two scorers from last year being gone and three of the five, the Tigers are returning 54.3% of their scoring from last season, 48.7% of the numbers and 44.5% of the assists. A couple of categories the Tigers will be looking for numbers in is blocks. Last year’s team had 148 blocks and only 35.8% of that number returns this season. Senior Kavell Bigby-Williams blocked 67 shots himself a year ago for the Tigers.

LAST YEAR PAINT POINTS BIG FOR TIGERS Paint points were big last year for the Tigers and the LSU had 40-or-more paint points on 17 occasions. According to ESPN Stats and Info that was the second most by any team in a power conference with the exception of Duke which did it 19 times. The Tigers topped 50 twice with 50 vs. No. 24 Furman and 58 at Mississippi State. LSU is a much different team without big post players and so what second chance points will look like remains to be seen. The offense fans will see is different with some different ideas and plays as LSU tries to run more this season. Coach Wade has emphasized all five players going to the defensive boards to out to hope- fully prevent issues with opponents getting second chances with offensive boards. LSU had just five second chance points in the exhibition game at Louisiana Tech with the Bulldogs getting 18.
