Jazz in Belgium tells you all about...well, jazz in Belgium.

• initiative by Les Lundis D’Hortense • full overview: venues, festivals, but also concerts, releases, all bands and musicians, interviews, lists of schools and academies, which radio programmes focus on jazz, contact details of jazz photographers. • website looks quite old now, but it is getting a design update soon.

• founded after the last Belgian Jazz Meeting in September 2017, as a way of “branding” Belgian Jazz on an international level. • news on the Belgian jazz scene as a whole: new releases, national jazz events such as this Jazz#Forum, international events such as the Belgian Jazz Meeting and the Belgian delegation at Jazzahead, but also media articles about big awards won by Belgian musicians or articles from the perspective of the whole scene.

WBM helps artists, producers and publishers from the French-speaking community of Wallonia and Brussels to make their mark in the music industry. • supporting its presence in music markets and festivals (eg. Jazzahead), organising events together with FAI and other partners • international networks: EJN (Europe Jazz Network), ETEP (European Talent Exchange Program) etc • answers to questions from sector, information • very interesting feature: interviews with international experts on several relevant topics: http://formatscene.org/musique/  if you’d like to know how a label chooses an artist, or how promoters choose acts, or how best to present your artistic work to professionals.

The “Sociaal Fonds voor de Podiumkunsten” is a supporting organisation that is active in education and employment.

• wide range of interesting workshops, often free. e.g. communication, meeting efficiency, making videos with your smartphone, digital storytelling… • good overview of all the vacancies in the sector, for all levels.

Europe-wide network of 123 members (festivals, clubs and concert venues, independent promoters, national organisations) from 35 countries. • yearly conference in September with showcases, open to non-members too. • good database of festivals, venues, bars, agencies and organisations all over Europe  useful if you’re planning an international tour. • soon: database of “country forms”, with all the basic information you need to know when you want to get into a certain country

The biggest jazz expo in Europe (Bremen, April). • jazz fair with thousands of professionals (agents, musicians, press, promoters), matchmaking events and network drinks: enormous network • showcase festival: quite often a big step forward in international career • Belgian delegates: umbrella stand of Flanders Arts Institute and Wallonie- Bruxelles Musiques

12 Points showcases young artists in jazz and related music, alternating between Dublin and other vibrant European cities. • artists are appearing at other leading festivals and venues across Europe, so as a young musician with international ambitions, registering for 12Points is a must, but make sure you do it at a time when you’re ready for it. • as a jazz professional, 12 Points is where you discover what other countries have to offer in terms of young jazz musicians, and the conferences are always very interesting.

13 FLANDERS ARTS INSTITUTE Have Love Will Travel research and tool: Research and online tool by FAI that puts the international concerts of Belgian musicians together on one map. The data about all these concerts has been collected from online concert sites Songkick, Bands in Town, Setlist.fm and Facebook.

• As a musician or agent you can discover relevant concert locations to plan a tour, or see which Belgian artists played/is playing where, to gage where your band would fit. • International promoters get an overview of which Belgian musicians are performing in their area in the near future.

• listeners can get a monthly newsletter from Spotify with concerts from their favourite bands in their area. • artists can get monthly overviews of statistics of who is listening to their music and where.  can be used for bookings: “I have this many listeners in that country, so I can probably fill out that venue (and use this in my negotiation with the promoter there).” • blog with interesting tips and tricks, best practices, interviews etc.
