CBF NATIONAL HONOR ROLL ‘PLAYERS OF THE WEEK’

T. J. Hose, East Carolina, P – The junior scattered three hits over seven innings as the Pirates downed No. 7 Cal State Fullerton, 6-1, last Friday in Greenville, N.C. It was ECU’s first win over a Top 10 entry since 2005, as Hose allowed one , struck out six and walked three. The only run he allowed was earned as he received his second consecutive Honor Roll mention.

Justin Henry, Ole Miss, 2B – The junior led the Rebels at the plate, as Ole Miss took a two-game set from Austin Peay, and 3-game series from #23 UCLA, with five runs and seven RBI in five clashes. He batted 14-of-22, and posted five multiple games (at least two hits in each game), including a 4-for-4 performance in Sunday’s series clinching win over the Bruins. Henry hit .714 against the Bruins, going 10-for-14 versus the Uclan.

Adrian Alaniz, Texas, P – The junior pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Longhorns to a, 10-0, win over Miami (Ohio) Saturday in Austin. Alaniz (5-1) scattered two hits, and only allowed four base runners on the day, as one RedHawk reached on an and another was hit by a pitch. He fanned seven over nine innings, as it was UT's first complete-game shutout since May, 2005.

Jeff Tezak, Nebraska, 3B – The junior hit .727 (8-for-11) over the weekend with a , two doubles, three RBI and a of 1.182, helping his team to a series win over No. 22 Alabama. He opened the weekend with six consecutive hits, including 5-for-5 with a homer and two RBI, in Saturday’s, 4-3, come-from-behind win over the Tide’s preseason All-American Tommy Hunter.

Wily Fox, Wake Forest, INF – The junior had a hit in all five games last week, including two walk-off, game-winning hits. On Friday, he became the first player this season to hit a homer off Cavalier Sean Doolittle as the Demon Deacons picked up an, 8-3, victory over No. 4 Virginia. He also singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a, 7-6, win over the Cavs on Sunday. The Arizona State transfer finished with a team-best average of .478 for the week, and also led the team in hits (11), RBI (8), slugging percentage (.826) and on-base percentage (.500).

David Price, Vanderbilt, P – The big lefthander struck out 16 UIC batsmen (one shy of his career high for whiffs of 17 against Arkansas last year) in a four-hit, 2-1, VU victory over the Flames to extend a school-record winning streak to 16 games. He also raised his career Ks’ total of 304 – second in VU annals behind Mike Willis – and it was his second in a row, after he whiffed 13 in a CG win over Xavier (Ohio) on Mar. 3 in Nashville.

Brandon Godfrey, Long Beach State, 1B – The junior batted .667 over the week, going 10-for-15 with four runs and four RBIs, in a series win over Arizona State. He also struck out just once, and had a five- hit day in the series clinching victory on Sunday, while driving in three runs. He also had two hits in the team's, 8-7, win on Saturday, and belted three hits in the opener against ASU with a sacrifice .

Jay Monti, Sacred Heart, P - The 2005 NEC Pitcher of the Year tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout on Saturday, as Sacred Heart downed five-time defending Big East champion Notre Dame, 3-0. He struck out four and did not issue a walk. Monti was perfect other than allowing a first-inning to Jeremy Barnes and a seventh inning to Mike Dury. Andrew Carignan, , P – The Tar Heel closer saved all three of UNC’s wins over No. 11 Miami last weekend, as UNC earned its first-ever three-game sweep of the Hurricanes. He retired seven of the eight batters he faced, including two via , while allowing just one walk and no hits. It marked the first time that the junior had saved three games in a single weekend series, and he is now fourth all-time at UNC with 20 career saves. In 2007, he has five saves and owns a 1.80 ERA.

Brett Featherston, Northern Iowa, 1B - The junior hit 5-of-11 (.455) while helping the Panthers go 2-1 through their first three games of their spring break trip to , notching a 1.091 slugging percentage after tallying 12 in 11 at-bats. He already has five home runs on the season, just one shy of his team-leading total of a year ago. On the season, he is hitting .318 with a .682 slugging percentage and .467 on-base mark.

Jordan Dodson, Rice, OF – The junior hit .375 with seven RBI at the Whataburger Classic, earning MVP honors, but he did a little bit of everything. He had a home run and a double for a .875 slugging mark, and drew two walks for a .500 on-base percentage, with a and a .

Colt Hynes, Texas Tech, P – The senior logged his first complete game of the season on Sunday to lead Tech past No. 23 TCU, 4-1. He allowed one run on six hits and did not walk a batter in nine innings. His 11 marked a career-high for the lefty. His previous was six last year against Missouri.

Bryan Henry, Florida State, P – The senior tossed a season-high eight innings, shutting out the Indiana Hoosiers to earn his fifth win in six starts. Henry did not allow a Hoosier to reach third and allowed just three runners to get to second base. He struck out seven batters and did not issue a walk for the second straight game. He has given up just four walks all year while striking out 34.

Eric Farris, LMU, 2B – The junior led the Lions to a 3-1 record last week including a pair of road wins over then-No. 28 ranked Tulane. He batted .474 (9-for-19) with six runs scored, three RBI, and two doubles over the four games. The infielder also stole five bases on the week, and went 7-for-10 (.700) in the leadoff spot during the Lions’ two wins over the Green Wave.

David Newmann, Texas A&M, P - Newmann allowed one run on five hits and struck out nine in a complete-game effort to lead the Aggies past Florida, 7-1, last Friday night in the first game of a three- game sweep. Newmann (3-0) allowed UF’s only run in the first on a RBI groundout. After a two-out double by Jonathan Pigott in the fourth, Newmann retired 14 straight Gator hitters until issuing a one-out walk in the ninth. That runner was erased on a double play to end the game.

Derek Shunk, Villanova, 3B - Had 12 hits with a average of .632 in four games, with a pair of four hit games, while collecting four RBI and one home run. He also is riding a career-best 10-game hitting streak and needs just 21 more hits to break into the school’s all-time top 10 career rankings.

Matt Angle, Ohio State, SS – Angle was 5-for-6 in the Buckeyes’, 3-2, win over North Florida last Friday and ended the Kennel Club Classic with a 7-for-12 (.583) weekend, as the Buckeyes swept UNF, Western Michigan and Connecticut in Jacksonville, Florida.

Marc Rzepczynski, UC Riverside, P - In UCR’s mid-week contest at No. 20 USC, the senior tossed his first complete-game to guide the Highlanders to a, 4-1, win. He improved to (4-0) on the season after striking out six and allowing just one run in Tuesday night’s showdown. Last week’s performance lowered his ERA to a team-leading 2.52.

Brian Rike, OF and Albie Goulder, 1B, Louisiana Tech – Rike hit .368 (7-19), with three home runs and nine RBI over five games last week. The junior scored a total of eight runs and extended his current hitting streak to nine games. He leads the WAC in home runs (12), hits (35), runs (37), stolen bases (9) and RBI (35). Goulder had a career day yesterday, assaulting Lamar pitching in a road doubleheader win. In game one, he had a career-high 7 RBIs and hit 3-for-4, with a two-run home run, a two-run single and three-run double in a, 12-9, win. Kiki Vazquez, UCF, 1B – The sophomore recorded at least one hit in every game last week to help UCF to a 5-0 record, which marked the longest winning streak for the Golden Knights since the 2005 season. The infielder posted a double in each of the first four games and added his fourth homer of the season in game one with UMass. Vazquez finished the week 7-for-14 (.500) with nine RBI, four runs scored, five walks, just one strikeout and his first career .

David Knapp, Samford, P – The sophomore pitched seven shutout innings in a combined, 1-0, blanking of Memphis on Wednesday in Birmingham. He allowed just two singles in the performance, while striking out four batters and walking just one. Doug Denson and Joseph Edens combined to pitch the final two innings to secure the Bulldogs victory.

Chance Corgan, TCU, P - The Horned Frogs rebounded from a loss to Rice in the in the Whataburger College Classic behind a dominating pitching performance from Corgan and topped host Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, 3-0. He twirled eight strong innings and never faced more than four batters in an inning en route to his second win of the season. Through eight innings, he had faced just three batters over the minimum. He surrendered five hits and struck out seven batters without allowing a walk.

Jeff Cunningham, South Alabama, 1B – The USA slugger poled two homers (2-for-4 for the day) Sunday and hit four in the series at Louisiana-Lafayette while driving in four runs in the third game. Cunningham has hit six homers in the last four games against the Ragin’ Cajuns since May, 2006.

Neall French, Cincinnati, 1B – The senior had a strong week to help the Bearcats to a 3-1 record and extend his career-best hit streak to eight games. In the four games, French hit .429 (6-for-14), with all but one of the hits going for extra bases. French turned in the best day of his collegiate career at Kentucky by hitting a pair of three-run homers for a career-high six RBI. During the week, French finished with two multiple-hit games, three doubles, four runs scored, nine RBI and a 1.071 slugging percentage.

Carl Furbush, LSU, P – The junior led LSU to a, 2-1, victory over Southern Miss on Friday, limiting the Golden Eagles to one unearned run on just three hits in eight innings of work. He recorded five strikeouts, and he did not walk a batter, as only one Southern Miss runner advanced beyond first base. The lefthander improved his record to (3-1) on the year with a 2.61 ERA. In 31 innings, Furbush has recorded 28 strikeouts and 11 walks and opponents are batting .246 against him.

Yan Gomes, Tennessee, C - Gomes hit .438 last week while helping lead Tennessee to a perfect 4-0 record. He led the Vols with seven hits, five runs, two home runs and five RBI while starting all four games behind the plate. In fact, Gomes has started at catcher in each of UT’s last 13 games, filling in well for injured All-America J.P. Arencibia.

Jeff Hatcher, UNCW, P - The junior tossed the Seahawks’ first complete game shutout of the season as he struck out a career-high eight in a, 3-0, blanking of VCU. He allowed just three hits and a walk, retired the first nine batters he faced before allowing a leadoff walk in the fourth inning, and didn't allow a hit until the fifth while facing just two batters over the minimum.

Jared Schrom, P, and Kevin Croft, C, Stephen F. Austin – The battery mates led SFA in a 3-game sweep versus UT Pan American. Croft was the Lumberjacks best hitter batting .500, with a home run in each game, his first three of the season. On Sunday, Croft’s two-run home run in the second inning were the only runs scored by SFA in a, 2-0, win to complete their second straight sweep and a perfect 7-0 record at home. On Friday, Schrom (2-1) fanned 10 UT Pan American batters in a complete-game effort, allowing just three hits in a, 7-0, gem. He held the Broncs to only three hits and allowed only two walks. He now leads SFA's starting rotation with a 1.32 ERA.

Pete Clifford, Jacksonville, OF – Continued his hot bat last week to almost single handedly lead the Dolphins to a 5-1 week. Against Florida, he had one hit, but it was a big one, as his solo home run tied the game in the seventh to set up a ninth inning rally by the Dolphins and a, 6-5, win at McKethan Stadium. He extended his hitting streak to a career-high tying 16 games, while batting .381 (8-21) with two doubles, two home runs, eight runs, nine RBI, 16 total bases and a .762 slugging percentage. P.O. Josh Romanski, San Diego, P – The sophomore tossed a gem in leading the Toreros to a, 2-0, victory over No. 29 ranked UC Irvine last Tuesday. He dealt eight scoreless innings against the Anteaters, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out seven batters in the win. He permitted just one runner to reach second base, and never allowed more than one runner in any of his eight innings. The left-hander turned in his most dominating performance of the season, at one point retiring 11 straight batters.

Todd McInnis, Southern Miss, P - McInnis carried a no-hitter into the eight inning of a, 5-0, win over Alabama at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. (home of the ’ AA Southern League affiliate) before the Tide’s Emeel Salem singled to break up the hitless performance. He stuck out six and walked four as the Eagles’ pitching staff combined for a two-hitter vs. ‘Bama.

Tim May, Penn, 1B – The sophomore batted .632, with five doubles and eight RBI, during the Quakers’ spring break trip to Florida. He was 12-for-19 in five games, with five doubles, a and homerun, totaling a 1.053 slugging percentage. His best performance was a 4-for-5, five RBI showing against St. Bonaventure. The first baseman is riding a five-game hitting streak and is hitting a team-best .536.

Jonathan Batts, UNCW, C-1B – The senior batted .500 (7-for-14) with a pair of home runs and six RBI along with a team-high five walks, as the Seahawks closed the week at 3-1 and took a 2-1 series edge over Virginia Commonwealth over the weekend.

Ross Oeder, Wright State, 2B – The senior posted a .625 (10-for-16) with a double, two triples and eight runs scored to lead the Raiders to a four-game sweep at Air Force. He posted four consecutive multi-hit games, giving him seven already this season. He compiled a .938 slugging percentage and drove in four runs from his lead-off spot, and also stole three bases.

Travis Banwart, Wichita State, P - The junior continued his hot streak, winning his fourth-straight start with seven shutout innings versus Penn State, while giving up five hits and striking out nine. He allowed just five singles and struck out at least one Penn State hitter in every inning except the fourth. It was his second-straight combined shutout for the Shockers. In his last four starts, he is 4-0 with a 0.74 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.

Josh Johnson, Mississippi State, P – The senior righty (2-0) matched career-highs with 11 K’s over eight innings Sunday to lead the Bulldogs past San Francisco in the 2007 Quala-T Imprints Baylor Classic at Baylor Ballpark in Waco. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and allowed only one runner to reach second base until losing his shutout in the eighth inning on a leadoff pinch-hit home run by Zack Kim. The Bulldog co-captain scattered four hits and ended seven of his eight innings with strikeouts.

Johnny Dorn, Nebraska, P – The junior went 2-0, with a 2.70 ERA, in a pair of victories over NCAA qualifiers over the week, defeating both Stetson and nationally ranked Alabama on the road. He pitched 13.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits, while striking out six. He moved into third place on NU’s career wins chart with 24 career wins (24-7) during his three-year career.

Justin Bour, George Mason, 1B – The freshman put together an incredible week, batting .500 (10x20), with seven home runs (including three grand slams), nine runs scored and 19 RBI’s in four games. He hit two grand slams, and drove in a school-record nine runs in a, 28-1, romp of Coppin State, then went 3- for-6 with two homers and four RBI in an, 11-4, CAA win at Hofstra on Friday. He followed that with a 3- for-6 effort with two homers, including another , and six RBI in an, 18-4, win over the Pride.

Tyler Kuhn, West Virginia, SS – Kuhn led the Mountaineers to a 3-0 week and sweep of Hartford, while batting .364 (4-for-11), with a homer, triple and four RBI.

Heath Hennigan, Northwestern State (La.), P – The sophomore pitcher (1-0, 3.24 ERA) tossed his first career complete game last Tuesday, disposing of Louisiana-Lafayette in a, 2-1, win. The 6-foot 5-inch righty allowed just three hits and one run against one of the nation's top offensive teams. He faced just 29 batters - two above the minimum - throwing 86 pitches and letting just only one runner get past first.

Tom Dolan, Temple, P – The junior pitched nine scoreless innings last week and improved to (2-1) on the season with a, 9-0, victory over Buffalo on Sunday. He scattered seven hits against the Bulls in eight shutout innings to pick up the win, and also threw a scoreless inning of relief against #1 North Carolina on Wednesday. He has not allowed a run in his past 11 innings of work.

Ian Hollick, New Mexico, 3B – The junior posted team-highs in batting average (.667), runs scored (eight), RBI (six) and walks (six) as the Lobos swept a three-game series from Rhode Island last week in Albuquerque.

Nick Schmidt, Arkansas, P – The junior improved to (4-0) on the season with eight-scoreless innings on Saturday against Kansas. He has thrown 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings and allowed only one run in his last 25.2 innings. He struck out eight to move into third place in career strikeouts at Arkansas with 268, while allowing just three hits to lower his opponent batting average to .149 for the season, and his ERA to 1.18 in 38 innings of work.

Billy Cather, Maine, OF – Helped the Black Bears score a combined 40 runs during their three wins of the week, batting .387, with four doubles, six runs scored and eight RBIs. In addition, the sophomore centerfielder was a perfect 6-of-6 in stolen-base attempts.

Sean Reilly, Tennessee Tech, OF – The junior hit .571 (8-for-14) with seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple and seven RBI, as the Golden Eagles went 3-1. He picked up a hit and scored a run at Alabama, helping Tech top the Crimson Tide, 8-6. He went 3-for-5 in game three versus Bradley, finishing the series with a .636 batting average (7-for-11), with a .857 slugging percentage for the week.

Tyler Childress, Longwood, DH – The senior hit .692 (9-13) while playing in four games (all wins), including three home runs, two doubles, 14 RBI, and six runs scored, with a 1.538 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base percentage (two walks). He was 3x3 with two solo home runs, a double, a sacrifice fly, and four RBI during a, 5-1, win versus visiting Marist to lead the Lancers to a three-game sweep of the Red Foxes. On the season, Childress is hitting .393, with a team-best three home runs and 20 RBI.

Peter Kummerfeldt, Quinnipiac, DH – The senior hit a team-high .438 with three doubles, a homer, three runs scored and six RBI as the Bobcats split the first four games of their Florida swing last week. In a, 5-4, win over South Florida on Friday, he went 3-5 with a double and an RBI. He then sparked a rally from a four-run deficit on Sunday, going 2-4 with four RBI in a, 12-9, conquest of Michigan State. He also boasts a team-high .813 slugging percentage and .550 on-base ledger.

Mark Rodrigues, Hawai’i, P – The senior pitched seven innings to get the win in a, 4-0, victory over 24th- ranked Arizona on Saturday. He allowed just three hits and no walks, while striking out four, to improve to (5-1) on the year.

Brock Wright, Kentucky, OF – The freshman helped pace the Wildcats 4-0 week, batting .455 (5-for- 11), and hitting three home runs. He scored 10 times in the four games, drawing six walks. Wright slugged for a 1.273 percentage, and reached base at a .667 clip during the four-game span, boosting his season batting average to .400. He has now driven in 11 runs, and scored 15 times.

Garrett Young, Liberty, OF - The junior batted .556 (10-18) and knocked in nine runs in leading the Flames to a 3-1 mark. He posted a .579 on-base percentage, 16 total bases, a .889 slugging percentage, four multi-hit games and four multi-RBI games. He also tallied five runs scored, one double and two stolen bases during the week.

Tristan Mulcahy, St. Bonaventure, 1B/DH – The sophomore batted .475 (19-40) with five home runs, two doubles and 15 RBI over nine games in Florida. He hit three home runs versus Mount St. Mary's and two more in a win over New Jersey Tech. For the season, Mulcahy is batting .429 in 12 games.

Andrew Tenaglia, Holy Cross, 3B – The senior went 8-for-16 (.500 batting average) with six RBI, five runs scored, four doubles, one home run and a .938 slugging percentage in four games (two at Campbell P.O. Box 6507 Lubbock, Texas 79493-6507 www.CollegeBaseballFoundation.org

& two at Davidson). He went 3-for-5 with three RBI, as he had two doubles and his first homer of the season in the first game at Davidson.

Bubba O'Donnell, High Point, P – The junior scattered five hits in a complete game shutout of ETSU, the first of his career. He posted a career-best nine strikeouts and issued just one walk while shutting out the Bucs for their first time since 2006. O'Donnell held ETSU to a .156 hitting performance and did not allow a runner to reach second base after a third inning double (six innings), setting down the last eight batters in order.

Tyson Ross, California, P – The sophomore hurled an eight-inning, 10-strikeout effort to dominate Kent State, 8-0, Friday in the first game of the Cardinal Classic in Louisville. He allowed three hits, no runs, and no walks, with the career-high 10 K’s. This follows a complete-game effort the previous week in a, 1- 0, loss at Stanford (8.0 innings, five hits, one run, one walk, eight strikeouts).

Mitch Harris, Navy, P/OF – The junior dual threat struck out 10 in a complete game, two-hit effort, as the Midshipmen defeated Monmouth, 2-1. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and faced only three over the minimum on the afternoon. His 10 strikeouts are a season-high and represent the eighth time he has reached double-digit strikeouts during his career. The right-hander has also fanned more batters than during 11 of his last-13 starts, dating back to the 2006 season, and moved into sixth place on the career strikeouts list with 178, only four away from Kevin Carlson's 182 strikeouts (1994-97).

John Ingram, Western Carolina, 1B – The senior hit .520 (13-for-25) in five games last week with 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. He posted five extra base hits, including three home runs, a triple and a double for 25 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.000. He hit two home runs against Xavier on Saturday and one in Sunday’s series winner to give him three on the season.

Ryan Mahoney, St. John’s, 1B – The senior homered in the first three games of a 3-1 week for the Red Storm, driving in a team-high six runs and slugging .650 over a four-game stretch that included a, 7-6, win over No. 8 Rice. While playing through a stomach virus, three of his four hits were homers. Against the Owls, his two-run homer in the fifth stretched the team's lead to 4-1, and St. John's clung to an eventual one-run win. His homers in the first two games of a series at McNeese State helped the Red Storm overcome three and five-run deficits and take its’ first leads.

Bruce Billings, San Diego State, P - In contest vs. Michigan last Saturday, played in front of 13,791 fans at PETCO Park, Billings (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season in a, 4-1, win over the Wolverines. In 7.0 innings of work, he struck out four, while only allowing one earned run, four hits and one walk, allowing only one runner past first base. He held the Wolverines, who were batting .314 on the season coming into the weekend, to a .167 batting average in the game.
