  • WANSALAWARA Soundings in Melanesian History
WANSALAWARA Soundings in Melanesian History Introduced by BRIJ LAL Working Paper Series Pacific Islands Studies Program Centers for Asian and Pacific Studies University of Hawaii at Manoa EDITOR'S OOTE Brij Lal's introduction discusses both the history of the teaching of Pacific Islands history at the University of Hawaii and the origins and background of this particular working paper. Lal's comments on this working paper are quite complete and further elaboration is not warranted. Lal notes that in the fall semester of 1983, both he and David Hanlon were appointed to permanent positions in Pacific history in the Department of History. What Lal does not say is that this represented a monumental shift of priorities at this University. Previously, as Lal notes, Pacific history was taught by one individual and was deemed more or less unimportant. The sole representative maintained a constant struggle to keep Pacific history alive, but the battle was always uphill. The year 1983 was a major, if belated, turning point. Coinciding with a national recognition that the Pacific Islands could no longer be ignored, the Department of History appointed both Lal and Hanlon as assistant professors. The two have brought a new life to Pacific history at this university. New courses and seminars have been added, and both men have attracted a number of new students. The University of Hawaii is the only American university that devotes serious attention to Pacific history. Robert,C. Kiste Director Center for Pacific Islands Studies WANSALAWARA Soundings in Melanesian History Introduced by BRIJ V. LAL 1987 " TABLE OF CONTENTS 1.

  • Prospectus 2016-2017
Prospectus 2016-2017 Affiliated to GGSIP University, New Delhi Approved by Bar Council of India LAW BBA JOURNALISM Shri Vipin Sahni Chairman Delhi Metropolitan Education From the Chairman's Desk e rst few years are the baby years. Now, as we enter our fth year, yet second at this new campus, we are excited about what the students, their parents and guardians and we, are going to share throughout the year. Since we are a professional college, we remain focused on leading our young adults along the pathway that will assemble them into professionals; ready to make their mark in the world. We are constantly inspired by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagores lines, Where the mind is led forward ese lines were written during our countrys struggle for independence and was a heartfelt cry to Indians to believe in God and in themselves, in other words, freedom. Hearing the lines recited gave boldness and fearlessness to young Indians to bravely challenge the rule and domination of the British over us. Similarly, today we have many inuences, many not so good ones, on our young adults. Let the minds of all DMEians be led forward on the path of honesty, compassion towards all, loyalty to the institution and family, and above all, to the cause of an energetic and vibrant India; of which all our DMEians will become proud young citizens. I welcome you on behalf of the faculty and management to a fullling 2016-17 academic session. A Chartered Accountant and Financial Advisor of repute by profession, Mr. Sahni has taken upon himself the mantle of an educationist to bring change in society by quality education in schools & colleges.
