FEBRUAR Belle & Sebastian slipper tre EPer under paraplytittelen "How To Solve Our Human Problems"! Den første vil bli utgitt 8. desember 2017, den andre 19. januar 2018, og den tredje 16. februar 2018. EP-triologien utgis på Matador Records, og kulminerer i en samle-CD og et vinylbokssett i begrenset opplag som inneholder alle tre EPene. Stuart Murdoch, vokalist og låtskriver i Belle & Sebastian, forklarer motivene bak trippelslippet i en Q&A med Stereogum som kan leses HER. For å feire annonseringen, har Belle & Sebastian avduket første smakebit fra EPene, låta "I'll Be Your Pilot" fra EP2. HØR DEN NYE LÅTA "I'LL BE YOUR PILOT" HER Den nye singelen fanger essensen av Belle & Sebastians sound og deres gode øre for melodi. Teksten handler om Stuart Murdochs yngste sønn: "Having your first kid is a huge event, so I wrapped a lot of things I felt about Denny into the song. Being a dad made me feel a little like the pilot in The Little Prince, hence all the references to the Sahara!" EP-serien er siste tilskudd i katalogen til et band som alltid har ønsket å utfordre hva popmusikk representerer og hva den kan oppnå, et band som mot alle odds har vunnet en Brit award, vært blant de første til å kuratere sin egen festival, og spilt for den amerikanske ambassadøren i London (den forrige presidentens ambassadør, ikke den sittende). Belle & Sebastians nye musikk låter fortsatt som deres karakteristiske, tidløse blanding av glede og melankoli, det som har endret seg, er måten de ønsker å slippe den på. Som i 1997, da de slapp sine tre EPer "Dog on Wheels", "Lazy Line Painter Jane", og "3.. 6.. 9 Seconds of Light", bør heller ikke de tre nye EPene sees på som et stoppested på veien mot neste album, men som definitive utgivelser i seg selv. Belle & Sebastian har skrevet og spilt inn de nye låtene hjemme i Glasgow, og de er stort sett produsert av dem selv. Dette har gitt bandet friheten å eksperimentere, og til å ta seg god tid til å finpusse detaljene. Murdoch har selv tatt cover-bildene, knipset i et studio i Belsize Park nord i London. Katrina is a kind of 16 year-old Judy Garland — small, fragile, but also larger than life. Her eyes are huge and almost too expressive. Her hair is short, jet-black and she pushes it back whenever she is nervous. She is spookily intuitive and broadly knowledgable but she rarely reads and never studies. All in all, Katrina is the kind of miraculous person you can meet when you’re a teenager because you still believe such a person exists.

Combined, Warner Music Group and EMI Music could form the world's largest record company, with an esti- mated worth of $20 billion. EMI is currently the last of five major labels to exist independently of a media conglomerate. The merged company, to be called Warner EMI Music, will be ajoint venture. Time Warner, however, will have six board members to EMI's five. Time Warner plans to pay EMI shareholders a total of $1.3 billion in order to gain [control of the board]. Company executives estimate that 3,000 employees will be laid off. Company officials do not think that the merger will result in the sizable jettison of artists like that which took place when Universal acquired PolyGram in late 1998. Warner is currently ranked fourth in U.S. market share. EMI is in last place at fifth, but the com- pany is ranked third worldwide, due to strong sales in Europe and elsewhere.
