Des stars et des artistes émergents créeront un univers musical enchanteur à travers 19 performances très variées. Sur scène nous aurons l'occasion de découvrir des artistes renommés tels que le vainqueur des Grammys et d’un Oscar, John Legend, les Finlandais habitués des charts, Sunrise Avenue, le roi de la crossover Ben Harper, les surdoués Lo & Leduc, le chanteur-poète George Ezra, la singulière Ms. Lauryn Hill et bien d’autres encore. Cette année la BALOISE SESSION démarre le 19 octobre avec une soirée «cool»: Les Finlandais de Sunrise Avenue présentent un pop-rock mélodique et quelques grands succès des charts. Lors de cette «Opening Night» Samu Haber et son groupe rencontreront la rafraîchissante Thounoise Veronica Fusaro. Réjouissez-vous également de la soirée «An Evening with …» John Legend. La super star se produira en solo sur la scène de la BALOISE SESSION les 20 et 21 octobre en exclusivité européenne. Une voix soul chaude, un piano, des tables de club, la lueur des chandelles – chair de poule assurée! La chanteuse de R 'n’ B zurichoise Alina Amuri et la Bâloise Nicole Bernegger, connue pour ses tubes soul, assureront les premières parties de ces deux soirées. Ils viennent de cultures très différentes, toutefois la musique les unit: tant le Californien Ben Harper, que le Jamaïcain Jimmy Cliff, révèrent Bob Marley et sont des multi- instrumentistes d’exception. Le 25 octobre, ils célébreront à la BALOISE SESSION une soirée «Crossover Night». Le 26 octobre, nous invitons de fameux jongleurs de mots sur la scène de la BALOISE SESSION: les Bernois Lo & Leduc présenteront des textes intelligents, espiègles et décalés. Clueso, originaire d’Erfurt, fascine par sa profondeur poétique, par la rondeur et l’émotion de sa musique. Tous deux connaissent un immense succès avec leur «Hip-Hop-Pop». Les «Songpoets» anglais George Ezra et Jack Savoretti envoûtent leurs fans avec leurs sons mélancoliques, leurs excellentes compositions et leur chant passionné. Le 27 octobre ils se livreront un duel créatif de mots et de sons à la BALOISE SESSION. Deux générations, une passion: Buddy Guy est une légende vivante du Chicago Blues. Le 30 octobre à Bâle, le dieu de la guitare rencontrera Beth Hart, une des chanteuses blues les plus influentes. Une soirée de concert «Pure Blues»! BALOISE SESSION 2018 19 octobre – 6 novembre 2018 3 Le 2 novembre, les très renommés Tribalistas se produiront pour la première fois en Suisse, avec Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown und Arnaldo Antunes. Le trio sera précédé de leur compatriote Maria Gadú. Une soirée torride nous attend, sous la devise «Copa Do Brazil» et sous le signe de la Música Popular Brasileira! Le 5 novembre, nous invitons une vraie légende, Ms. Lauryn Hill, pour une «Iconic Night». Elle a fait fureur comme chanteuse dans le groupe «The Fugees» et ensuite dans sa carrière solo. Cette année, le classique «The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill» fête ses 20 ans. La soirée sera ouverte par la star montante originaire d’Appenzell, Marius Bear. Indépendante, fraîche, nouvelle: telle est la devise de la soirée du 6 novembre, qui réunira à Bâle, des artistes venant des deux côtés de l'Atlantique. Le quintet irlandais Walking On Cars et l’épatante chanteuse-compositrice LP: des «Indie Chartbreakers» qui ne rendent de comptes qu'à leur musique, comme dans les livres d'images. «Avec beaucoup d'efforts et d’amour du détail, nous sommes à nouveau parvenus à créer des récits musicaux uniques pour notre public et voyagerons ainsi musicalement du plus grand succès suisse, au groupe le plus populaire du Brésil en passant par une star mondiale du piano et une légende du reggae. The 2012 festival edition marked the end of the current festival name and the festival‘s partnership with presenting sponsor AVO Cigars. It was announced that starting in 2013, the festival would be called BALOISE SESSION with the new presenting sponsor Baloise and would take place at the Congress Center Basel in the new event hall designed by Herzog & de Meuron.

The financial impact on PBS Hawai‘i was sharp and deep, reflecting the suffering of our fellow Islanders. When schools shut down, students lacking digital access were hard-pressed to join their classmates online. As an educational media organization, we had already made these moves: • Substantially strengthened our statewide over-the-air broadcast relay system so that many homes in under-resourced areas across the Islands can better receive our programming, without the household cost of wi-fi, cable, or satellite dishes. • Launched, in 2019, an additional channel, PBS KIDS 24-7, distributed over-the- air, on cable, online and via satellite, which provides curriculum-rich, engaging programming for children ages 2-8.

For the past 34 years, major stars have been coming to this popular Swiss boutique-music festival and have left festival audiences with concert memories they will never forget. Visitors are not only thrilled by the big stars, but also often by the many newcomers at the festival. With pop, rock, singer-songwriter, soul, funk, blues, jazz and world music all in the programme, the richly diverse line-up offers a range of music styles that appeals to all of its approx. 20‘000 visitors. Music stories told in an intimate setting One very special feature of the BALOISE SESSION is the close proximity to the stars and the unique club-like setting with round tables and candlelight. The festival guests get up close to internationally renowned stars that generally play for well over ten thousand people in a concert hall which seats only 1‘500 people. The intimate setting with seating at small round tables creates the ambiance of New York- style music clubs. Giant screens ensure that the audience members who are seated at the very back also will not miss any detail of the fascinating stage show. Another unique feature of this indoor music festival in Basel is that each evening, two or three artists are presented who are linked in some way, giving them a common thread with which they can weave a story to thrill the audience throughout the evening. Instead of unrelated concerts that are simply slotted back to back, the audience at the BALOISE SESSION experiences a well-rounded evening with artists who have similar stylistic, historical, geographical backgrounds or some other shared characteristic which is often surprising.
