Changing Ideas of Freedom in the Indian Postcolonial Context
IDEALISM, ENCHANTMENT AND DISENCHANTMENT: CHANGING IDEAS OF FREEDOM IN THE INDIAN POSTCOLONIAL CONTEXT Yamini Worldwide, Colonial and Postcolonial Literature has represented processes of nation-formation and concepts of nationalism through experiments with forms of representation. Such experiments were quite predominant in the novel form, with its ability to incorporate vast spatial and temporal realities. Homi Bhabha’s Nation and Narration (2008) is a seminal volume discussing the innovations in the Twentieth Century Novel through a Postcolonial perspective and understanding these changes through the idea of National Literatures. The Cambridge Companion to Postcolonial Literary Studies (Neil Lazarus) and The Post-Colonial Studies Reader (Bill Ashcroft et al) present extensive discussions on the relationship between the politics of nation-formation and forms of fiction. In this article I offer a brief introduction to the evolution of the Hindi novel (1940s-1980s) with reference to the freedom movement and nationalist struggle in India. Benedict Anderson’s formulation regarding the significance of the genre of the novel in the process of nation-formation and Timothy Brennan’s concept of ‘The National Longing for Form’ published in Nation and Narration also establishes the novel as a genre representing, as well as creating, the Nation. Brennan writes It was the novel that historically accompanied the rise of the nations by objectifying the ‘one, yet many’ of the national life, and by mimicking the structure of the nation, a clearly bordered jumble of languages and styles… Its manner of presentation allowed people to imagine the special community that was the nation (Brennan, 2008: 49). Postcolonial theories have focussed on the relationship between realism and nationalism within the genre of the novel. -
Number Games Full Book.Pdf
Should you read this book? If you think it is interesting that on September 11, 2001, Flight 77 reportedly hit the 77 foot tall Pentagon, in Washington D.C. on the 77th Meridian West, after taking off at 8:20 AM and crashing at 9:37 AM, 77 minutes later, then this book is for you. Furthermore, if you can comprehend that there is a code of numbers behind the letters of the English language, as simple as A, B, C is 1, 2, 3, and using this code reveals that phrases and names such as ‘September Eleventh’, ‘World Trade Center’ and ‘Order From Chaos’ equate to 77, this book is definitely for you. And please know, these are all facts, just the same as it is a fact that Pentagon construction began September 11, 1941, just prior to Pearl Harbor. (https://www.ictp.it) Article history: received September 6, 2019; accepted September 16, 2020 Abstract In this work, we study the crust and the uppermost mantle structure beneath the Sicily Channel, by applying the ambient noise and earthquake tomography method. After computing cross-correlation of the continuous ambient noise signals and processing the earthquake data, we extracted 104 group velocity and 68 phase velocity dispersion curves corresponding to the fundamental mode of the Rayleigh waves. We computed the average velocity of those dispersion curves to obtain tomographic maps at periods ranging from 5 s to 40 s for the group velocities and from 10 s to 70 s for the phase velocities. We inverted group and phase speeds to get the shear-wave velocity structure from the surface down to 100 km depth with a lateral resolution of about 200 km. The resulted velocity models reveal a thin crust with thickness value of 15 km beneath the southern part of the Tyrrhenian basin and a thickness value of 20 km beneath Mount Etna. -
E-Digest on Ambedkar's Appropriation by Hindutva Ideology
Ambedkar’s Appropriation by Hindutva Ideology An E-Digest Compiled by Ram Puniyani (For Private Circulation) Center for Study of Society and Secularism & All India Secular Forum 602 & 603, New Silver Star, Behind BEST Bus Depot, Santacruz (E), Mumbai: - 400 055. E-mail: [email protected], www.csss-isla.com Page | 1 E-Digest - Ambedkar’s Appropriation by Hindutva Ideology Preface Many a debates are raging in various circles related to Ambedkar’s ideology. On one hand the RSS combine has been very active to prove that RSS ideology is close to Ambedkar’s ideology. In this direction RSS mouth pieces Organizer (English) and Panchjanya (Hindi) brought out special supplements on the occasion of anniversary of Ambedkar, praising him. This is very surprising as RSS is for Hindu nation while Ambedkar has pointed out that Hindu Raj will be the biggest calamity for dalits. The second debate is about Ambedkar-Gandhi. This came to forefront with Arundhati Roy’s introduction to Ambedkar’s ‘Annihilation of Caste’ published by Navayana. In her introduction ‘Doctor and the Saint’ Roy is critical of Gandhi’s various ideas. This digest brings together some of the essays and articles by various scholars-activists on the theme. Hope this will help us clarify the underlying issues. It consists of a humorous 24-minute show and educator’s package. The Orion Educator’s Guide is designed for Planetarians, Teachers, and parents. The information is researched, organized, and laid out so that the educator need not spend hours coming up with lesson plans or labs. This has already been accomplished by certified educators. The guide is written to alleviate the fear of space and the night sky (that many elementary and middle school teachers have) when it comes to that section of the science lesson plan. It is an excellent tool that allows the parents to be a part of the learning experience. The guide is devised in such a way that there are plenty of visuals to assist the educator and student in finding the Winter constellations. -

100 the SOUTH-WEST CORNER of QUEENSLAND. (By S
100 THE SOUTH-WEST CORNER OF QUEENSLAND. (By S. E. PEARSON). (Read at a meeting of the Historical Society of Queensland, August 27, 1937). On a clear day, looking westward across the channels of the Mulligan River from the gravelly tableland behind Annandale Homestead, in south western Queensland, one may discern a long low line of drift-top sandhills. Round more than half the skyline the rim of earth may be likened to the ocean. There is no break in any part of the horizon; not a landmark, not a tree. Should anyone chance to stand on those gravelly rises when the sun was peeping above the eastem skyline they would witness a scene that would carry the mind at once to the far-flung horizons of the Sahara. In the sunrise that western region is overhung by rose-tinted haze, and in the valleys lie the purple shadows that are peculiar to the waste places of the earth. Those naked, drift- top sanddunes beyond the Mulligan mark the limit of human occupation. Washed crimson by the rising sun they are set Kke gleaming fangs in the desert's jaws. The Explorers. The first white men to penetrate that line of sand- dunes, in south-western Queensland, were Captain Charles Sturt and his party, in September, 1845. They had crossed the stony country that lies between the Cooper and the Diamantina—afterwards known as Sturt's Stony Desert; and afterwards, by the way, occupied in 1880, as fair cattle-grazing country, by the Broad brothers of Sydney (Andrew and James) under the run name of Goyder's Lagoon—and the ex plorers actually crossed the latter watercourse with out knowing it to be a river, for in that vicinity Sturt describes it as "a great earthy plain." For forty miles one meets with black, sundried soil and dismal wilted polygonum bushes in a dry season, and forty miles of hock-deep mud, water, and flowering swamp-plants in a wet one. -
The Catalina Triangle — Magnificence & Mystery Meet Mayhem & Murder Most Foul Off the Souther California Coast
THE CATALINA TRIANGLE — MAGNIFICENCE & MYSTERY MEET MAYHEM & MURDER MOST FOUL OFF THE SOUTHER CALIFORNIA COAST Dedicated to the many men and women who have lost their lives in the Catalina Triangle by Ned Madden, San Clemente, Calif. – 2017 * * * “…The lure of the sea is some strange magic that makes men love what they fear. Death on the shifting barren sands seems less insupportable to the imagination than death out on the boundless ocean, in the awful, windy emptiness. Man's bones yearn for dust.” — Zane Grey "If a life is taken close to the 33rd Parallel North, this fits with the Masons’ demonic mythology in which they demonstrate their worldly power by spilling human blood at a predetermined locale." — "Masons and Mystery at the Parallel" by Day Williams (Anti-Freemason Christian writer) A bee on a balloon and a kite on the moon … The Catalina Triangle … a 1,200-square-mile pie-slice-shaped wedge of Pacific Ocean off the OC coast in between Dana Point, Santa Catalina and San Clemente islands … works in mysterious ways, and, yeh, I did once look up to glimpse that very real and singular close-bee- balloon/far-kite-moon visual floating before my eyes as I walked along the Capo Beach strand. No surprise. I’ve come to expect Catalina Triangle strangeness – like the Avalon “sleepkiller,” the 33rd Parallel/“Bloodline of the Earth” link, Natalie Wood and Phil Hartman, St. John Capistrano: “Scourge of the Jews,” sado-masochistic padres and blood-soaked natives, ghosts and pirates, a 30-kiloton nuke, mountain ranges spun sideways, sinking islands and northwest- trending fault epicentrum, Borderland and Bight, Gyre and eddy, countercurrent and undercurrent, earthquake and tsunami, moonscape sea craters and underwater knoll oases, Navy SEALs’ bin Laden-killing fake city, a real building made of human bones, largest animal (with the largest penis, a ten-footer) ever to draw breath and spout water vapor (the animal, not the organ) in the long sweep of phallic time on Mother Earth herself … beginning-of-life stuff.
