Belgian Castle Award Contact stations who are operating from a castle, fortified castle or a farm-castle. They will be identified by a two part reference number using two letters for the province and three numbers for castle ID number.

(Operation must take place within a distance of maximum 500m around the castle. To be validated by the BCA Committee, a minimum of 25 contacts should be made within one single operation period by the respective castle. Stations operating from the castle should provide some info about the history of the castle. Operators who participate in a valid operation will be automatically credited with the point available.)

The award is available in CW, phone or mixed on all HF bands or on VHF/UHF 2m or 70cm. No use of repeaters, satellites, packet.

Belgian Lighthouse & Lightship Award This award is issued by the OSA – Antwerp division of the UBA for contacts with Belgian lighthouses and OSA members after June 1st 2005. SWL OK. You must earn 100 points to achieve the award.

BELGIAN POST CODE AWARD

The UBA Post Code Award is available for contacting Belgian stations in towns and villages each having a different post code. SWL OK. No date limits. All bands and modes, however no use of packet or repeaters. Each post code should be contacted only ONCE, regardless of bands or modes used. The postal code is a 4 digit number shown immediately before the city or town. Your score is the SUM of all different Belgian post codes confirmed by QSL cards.

The basic award requires 500,000 points. 1st endorsement sticker requires 750,000 points with 8 different provinces a second endorsement sticker requires 1,000,000 points with 9 different provinces. A trophy is available for a score of 1,500,000 points with all 10 provinces.

A special Excel worksheet has been created to facilitate application and score calculation. Applicants are encouraged to use this worksheet when applying for the award. This file on diskette may be accepted as application form. The file can be downloaded from the UBA Award Mailing list webpage at the "files" section. Anyone not wishing to use this file may send his/her application in form of a GCR list. Besides the usual QSL data, this list must contain the post code of each contacted station. Every GCR list should be sorted by ascending post codes. The award fee is 5€. Endorsements are free if applied for at the same time as the initial award application. HONOR ROLL In order to promote activity towards this award, the UBA has created a Honor Roll. The HR is open to all licensed HAMs and SWLs worldwide. Closing date for the HR is December 31st. each year. The Belgian UBA member with the highest score will receive a free plaque. The foreign station with the highest score will receive a free certificate, if he/she is a member of his/her national IARU society. Anyone who applied for the award, one of the endorsement stickers or trophy will automatically be included in the HR listing of the year of his/her application. For inclusion in the HR following the year following one's initial application, it is necessary for the applicant to submit his/her new score using the Excel file or a GCR list as explained in the award rules. Applications for HR inclusion must be mailed before December 31st of each year. Anyone who has not been able to increase his/her score during the following years but who would like to be included in that year's HR listing, should inform the award manager. The HR will be published on the award web page and in the UBA's magazine CQ/QSO. Every participant should be prepared to submit any of the listed QSL cards to the award manager upon simple request. Failing to do so may result is disqualification. Participation in the HR is free of charge. Every participant declares to accept the above rules. The rules may, if it appears necessary, be changed at any given time. The decisions of the award manager are final. First HR listing will be published early 2004.

Belgian Telegraphy Award BTC is a group of CW enthousiast who want to keep the art of CW alive. In order to keep promoting CW contacts among radioamateurs (and encourage SWL’s to listen to CW QSO’s) on all amateur bands they issue a membership award to all who can provide contact with Belgian radioamateurs. Applicants will prove contacts with Belgian radioamateurs as follows:

ON amateurs need CW QSO’s with 15 different ON stations. EU amateurs need CW QSO’s with 10 different ON stations. DX amateurs need CW QSO’s with 5 different ON stations.

Canadian Liberation March Award (ON4CLM) Each year, during late October and early November, station ON4CLM operates to commemorate the liberation of Knokke, at great cost to Canadian life, on 1 November 1944. Each successive year honors one of the nine Canadian regiments that participated in this action. Only one contact with ON4CLM is required to earn a six-color printed award. Excess funds received from this program are used to maintain memorials and displays.

Issued by the European Community to publicize the objectives of its member countries. The basic requirement consists in working 225 different stations from the member countries. The countries and associated prefixes are as follows:

No more than 30 stations from a single country can be used to reach the 225 contacts. 2. During the UBA contest: Work or log 225 different stations from EC member countries. At least two different stations from each of the fifteen E.C. countries are required. No more than 35 stations from a single EC country may be used.

All contacts should be logged during the UBA contests from up to 4 consecutive years, starting not earlier than 1994. Only QSO's from UBA contests for which a log was submitted to the contest manager within the stated contest time limit may be considered. A missing LX or SV QSO during the contests may be replaced by 3 other stations from the same country outside the contest.

Joker - a contact with OR5EEC, club station of the EC in Brussels may be used to replace a maximum of 3 missing contacts.

Diplome de Wallonie

Contact stations located in the Belgian region of Wallonie. This includes the provinces of Namur, Leige, Luxembourg, Hainaut and Brabant Wallon. Contacts after 1 Oct 1980, except contacts with new province of Brabant Wallon must be after 1 Jan 1995. Before that date, only contacts with French speaking part of Brabant are valid. Brussels QSO’s are not good.

WESTERN HAINAUT AWARD

Sponsored by the Radio-Club of Lessines to promote the Belgian region of Western Hainaut. Available for contacting (SWL OK) stations in the region after 1 January 2000.

Basic Award: Belgian stations need 20 points HF / 10 on VHF. Others need 10 points HF / 5 points VHF. Honor Award: Belgians need 40 on HF, 20 on VHF, others 20 HF / 10 points VHF. Excellence Award: Belgians need 60 points HF / 30 on VHF, others 30 HF / 15 VHF..

Point values: Station of the Radio-Club Lessines operating portable = 5. Radio-club Lessines = 3 points. Individual stations in Western Hainaut: = 1 point and /P = 2 points.

Each station can be contacted only once per band. Radio-club stations can be contacted twice each band including once in /P. The award may be earned by either HF or VHF contacts, but not by a combination of HF and VHF. Modes permitted are: AM, SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK 31, SSTV. No use of repeaters. Portable or mobile stations operating in Western Hainaut are OK. Contest contacts are OK.

An official list of cities/communes in Western Hainaut are found on their website. Look for notice on QSL cards: "Valid for D.H.O. Award". Postal codes 7320-7322, 7500-7866 and 7880-7973 are in the province. Valid club stations include: ON4JX, ON4LSN, ON4TOR, ON4RAM, ON5RC. Belgian stations operating /P or /A must indicate on their QSL cards the city of the Western Hainaut from which contacts were produced. In the absence of registration of the name of the city on the QSL card, the contact will not be valid for obtaining the award.
