In addition. I welcome the privilege of expressing my sincere appreciation to the membership of The Mycological Society of America for al- lowing me to serve them as President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Society. It has been a long and rewarding association. Finally, it is with great pleasure and gratitude that I dedicate this lecture to Dr. Alexander H. Smith, Emeritus Professor of Botany at the University of Michigan, who, over thirty years ago in a moment of weakness, agreed to accept me as a graduate student and who has spent a good portion of the ensuing years patiently explaining to me the intricacies, inconsis- tencies and attributes of the higher fungi. Thank you, Alex, for the invaluable experience and privilege of spending so many delightful and profitable hours with you. The purpose of this lecture is to explore the possible relationships between the gill fungi and the secotioid fungi, both epigeous and hypogeous, and to present a hypothesis regarding the direction of their evolution. Official press statement, from a university spokeswoman, regarding the Critic magazines that went missing. [CENSORED BY CRITIC] AfterUniversity Proctor Dave Scott received information yesterday that copies of this week’s Critic magazine were requested to be removed from the Hospital and Dunedin Public Library foyers, the Campus Watch team on duty last night (Monday) removed the rest of the magazines from stands around the University. The assumption was made that, copies of the magazine also needed to be removed from other public areas, and hence the Proctor made this decision. This was an assumption, rightly or wrongly, that this action needed to be taken as the University is also a public place, where non-students regularly pass through. The Proctor understood that the reason copies of this week’s issue had been removed from public places, was that the cover was objectionable to many people including children who potentially might be exposed to it. Today, issues of the magazine, which campus watch staff said numbered around 500 in total, could not be recovered from a skip on campus, and this is regrettable. “I intend to talk to the Critic staff member tomorrow, and explain what has happened and why,” says Mr Scott. The Campus Watch staff who spoke to the Critic Editor today, they were initially unaware of. yesterday’s removal of the magazines. The University has no official view on the content of this week’s magazine. However, the University is aware that University staff members, and members of the public, have expressed an opinion that the cover of this issue was degrading to women. -

H. macrocystidia forms a distinct lineage and groups together with Cystoagaricus, Kauffmania, and Typhrasa in the /Psathyrella s.l. clade, based on the Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses. Thus, the monospecific genusHeteropsathyrella gen. nov. is introduced for the single species. Detailed descriptions, colour photos, and illustrations are presented in this paper. Taxonomy and Phylogeny of the Fungus Genus Psathyrella (Psathyrellaceae)
SWEDISH TAXONOMY INITIATIVE PROJECT REPORT Project period: 2009–2011 Ellen Larsson University of Gothenburg FUNGI: Taxonomy and phylogeny of the fungus genus Psathyrella (Psathyrellaceae) Abstract A four-gene data set, including 218 taxa, on Psathyrellaceae was analyzed by Maximum Parsimony, Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian methods. The phylogenetic analyses recovered six major supported clades within Psathyrellaceae and we found support for recognizing the clades Parasola, Coprinopsis, Homophron, Lacrymaria and gossypina as distinct lineages. Coprinellus and cordisporus fall within the larger supported clade Psathyrella s.l.. The molecular support for the clade Psathyrella s.s., which includes the majority of species described in Psathyrella, is low. However, based on support from morphology, we suggest recognizing the clade as distinct. Kauffmania is proposed as a monotypic genus for the species P. larga and Typhrasa for P. gossypina. The genus Homophron is formally validated and three combinations are proposed: H. spadiceum, H. cernuum and H. camptopodum. The genus Cystoagaricus Singer is emended and the following new combinations are proposed: C. hirtosquamulosus, C. squarrosiceps, C. olivaceogriseus, and C. silvestris. Based on morphology and sequence data, we have identified 18 species new to science, one in Coprinellus, two in Coprinopsis, one in Typhrasa and 14 in Psathyrella. Fourteen of these occur in Sweden. We have identified nine new species for the Nordic countries, of which only two have so far been found in Sweden. We have sorted out eight synonymous names, proposed eleven new combinations and excluded one taxon name. Karl Soop Cortinarioid Fungi of New Zealand i Cortinarioid Fungi of New Zealand An Iconography and Key Eleventh Revised Edition Introduction Preface This book is intended as one small step towards bridging an obvious gap in the literature on New Zealand fungi, viz. colour illustrations and descriptions of dark-spored agaricoid and gastroid species that grow in native forests. During many study visits to the country I have repeatedly experienced the need for such a publication, a need that stems from the following observations: • The target group of fungi is well represented in New Zealand. During parts of the season it dominates the mycoflora in vast areas of the native forests. • At the same time these species are poorly known. Only a modest number have been named, described, and published, and even fewer have been illustrated in colour. In Europe and other parts of the world many cortinarioid fungi have proven critical as indicators of valuable biotopes and areas worthy of conservation. There is evidence that this also applies to New Zealand, which adds to the incentive to explore the target group and its role within the ecology of the region. It is my hope that the book will inspire resident mycologists to continue studies of this important and fascinating subject. It is evident that much remains to be done and that many new species will be discovered. This book must therefore be seen as provisional in the sense that it will be subject to periodical updates as new data become available. Inevitably, also some names will be provisional, used as working names or as tentative identification, until they are later confirmed or perhaps amended. -

Current Research in Environmental & Applied Mycology 6(1), 75–101, Doi 10.5943/cream/6/2/3 Abstract The morpho-taxonomy of 15 agaric species belonging to Agaricales collected from dipterocarp forests of Western Ghats of Karnataka is briefly described, discussed and their geographic distribution in India is presented. Of these, Crepidotus payettensis is reported for the first time from India. Cyptotrama asprata, Hygrocybe acutoconica, H. alwisii, Oudemansiella furfuracea, Hypholoma subviride and Lactocollybia epia are reported for the first time from Karnataka State. The taxonomy of Oudemansiella furfuracea and Hypholoma subviride contravening to the current name in Index Fungorum is discussed. In addition, a checklist of agarics comprising of 121 species in 55 genera reported from Western Ghats of Karnataka is also provided on the basis of published sources. Overall, 132 species in 60 genera belonging to Agaricales, Polyporales and Russulales are presented in this paper. Growth and Variability of Leratiomyces Erythrocephalus, the Scarlet Pouch
Mycological Notes 16: Growth and variability of Leratiomyces erythrocephalus, the Scarlet Pouch Fungus Jerry Cooper – September 2012 The familiar scarlet pouch fungus can be quite variable in appearance and that has caught out more than one mycologist, including me. Here I describe that variability, and I also predict this fungus will eventually spread around the world on wood chips. Leratiomyces erythrocephalus is one of our most iconic fungi. It was originally named Secotium erythrocephalum from material collected by Étienne Fiacre Louis Raoul near Akaroa. Raoul was surgeon on the expedition ship L'Aube. In 3 years in New Zealand from 1837 to 1840 he collected many plant specimens, mostly from the Akaroa area (during the episode of the French claim for New Zealand). Our fungus was first described in an article authored by Raoul 1844 (Annales des sciences naturelles) where the introduction of the name was attributed to Louis Tulasne. The same article Tulasne describes the equally iconic Illeodictyon cibarium, also from Akaroa. Raoul/Tulasne describe Secotium erythrocephalum as scarlet capped, with a white stem and 2-spored. Both species were again covered in Raoul's 'Choix De Plantes De La Nouvelle-Zelande' in 1846. Raoul's original description of the fungus is the classical concept of a stalked, secotioid scarlet-capped fungus. Louis Tulasne, along with his brother Charles, described the genus in more detail in 1845 (Annales des sciences naturelles) and in this article he first depicts the nearly gastroid form of the primordial fruitbody. Tulasnes' depiction of the primordial Secotium erythrocephalum. In 1891 Lloyd described what we now consider to be the same taxon, sent to him by H.W Laing from Lyttleton under the name Secotium lutescens, which as the name suggests was described as pale yellow, and without the stipe extending. -

The first records of Clitocybula familia from the Czech and Slovak Republics were studied and compared with the type specimen of C. familia var. compressa and several North-American collec- tions of var. familia using macro– and microscopic characters as well as molecular data (LSU rDNA). All the collections were identical. Therefore, there is no need to recognise var. familia and var. compressa, as they represent the same taxon. Detailed macro– and microscopic descriptions are given. In Europe, the species grows on strongly decayed fallen trunks of Abies alba and Picea abies. -
