Agenda Item: 6.8 Date: 2/1/17 Carlmont HS 2017 Summer Reading List All students at all levels will read (TBD - see below)** Incoming 9th grade students must read "They Say / I Say": The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing In addition, students going INTO the following advanced classes will read the following: Freshmen Sophomores Juniors Seniors AS English AS English II AS English III AP Courses AP Literature ● Of Mice and Men by John ● Beowulf by Seamus ● Native Son by Richard ● Frankenstein by Mary Steinbeck Heaney Wright Shelley AP Composition & Language ● They Say/I Say: The Moves that Matter in Persuasive Writing by Cathy Birkenstein & Gerald Graff ● Complete reading packet available from Carlmont at this link Summer reading is required for all students in the Sequoia Union High School District. In our benchmark-level classes, an assessment will be given in the first few days of school, followed by a mini unit. AS/AP classes may have additional assignments to complete along with the reading and will use the texts extensively as part of their curriculum. All students should come to school having read the assigned text(s). Copies are available for purchase at local bookstores and online. If you cannot afford to buy a copy, a limited number will be available in the local public libraries as well as in Carlmont’s textbook room.
