In his second year at the helm in 2018-19, the Dutch finished seventh in the American Rivers, their best conference finish since 2013-14. Three of his players have earned all-conference recognition in two years. He’s posted a 14-36 record. Steinkamp took over as the head women’s coach after a highly successful tenure on the Dutch men’s basketball staff. He had three separate stints with the men’s team, starting as a junior varsity coach during the 2004-05 season. He also was an assistant from 2006-12 and from 2014-17. During his 11 years with the program, the Dutch men won 92 games in conference play and won league titles in 2010 and 2014. He helped coach a total of 20 all-conference performers. Other coaching stops for Steinkamp include a year as a volunteer assistant with the men’s team at Division II Lewis University (Ill.) and a year as a graduate assistant for the Loras College women’s team. During his playing career at Central, Steinkamp scored 418 points and grabbed 259 rebounds in 52 games. He was a two-year letterwinner, serving as a team co-captain in 2003. Amy Briggs Assistant coach Former Truman State University (Mo.) standout Amy Briggs joined the Central women’s basketball staff in 2016. Briggs spent two seasons (2013-15) as a graduate assistant coach at Missouri Valley College (Mo.) while earning a master’s degree at Northcentral University (Ariz.) and serving as head coach for the Vikings’ junior varsity squad. She was an NAIA National Tournament Committee member in 2015 and has extensive camp and youth coaching experience. A 2014 Truman State graduate, Briggs was a first-team Great Lakes Valley Conference pick and league all-tournament team selection in 2013-14. She helped her club earn a conference title and she set a school season record for most 3-pointers (80).
