4 The College Anthem t The College Anthem is a beautiful presentation of the College Motto and Mission through the elegant melody and lyrics. It is jointly created by Professor Victor W.K. Chan (陳偉 光教授) from the Department of Music, and Dr. Sam C.L. Chan (陳澤蕾 博士) formerly from the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies .

q Listen to the College Anthem The College Emblem

Dr. Wu Yee Sun, the founder of Wing Lung Bank, cultivated a keen interest in the art of penjing (盆 景) and won the accolade of the ‘Sage of Penjing’ (盆聖). The college emblem is characterized by a bonsai of pine tree. Pine tree endures cold in winter, here it is likened to the indomitable spirit of perseverance and the College’s mission to nurture the future generation. The emblem resembles a jade pendant with ornate carve hinting the humble and receptive attitude of a gentleman. The Sunny College

As part of the College orientation programme, the *College Student Advisor Scheme is especially designed to help new students settle in College life. 8-10 students will be matched with 1-2 advisors, who are College staff members, to interact on academic, personal and College life matters in informal gatherings. Our advisors come from different faculties and departments in the university. Students will first meet their advisors in College-organized meetings in September to October, 2019. Subsequent meetings will be initiated by students. By meeting at least once a term, freshmen can continue to seek guidance from advisors on setting personal goals.

When new students entered their second year of College life, they are eligible to join Mentorship Programme, which serves as the next stage of advice and guidance. The introduction of group-to-group mentor-mentee model over a period of two years provides Year 2 and Year 3 students with the opportunities to enrich their people skills and career development from various fields of experts. The mentors’ stories of success and challenges will inspire the mentees upon the journey of realizing their personal goals.

The College also provides ample opportunities and support for students to extend their exposure. While Internship Programme let students lay solid foundation for their future career, various self-initiated project funding schemes such as Sunny Passion Programme and Rance Lee Award support students to realize their wild ideas.

*All freshmen are REQUIRED to join College Student Advisor Scheme. Enquiries: Miss Sonia Yu (3943-3937 / [email protected]) 16 9.Event Calendar Term 1 , 2019/20 More activities are coming up! The establishment of “House of Sunny Living” is Wu Yee Sun College’s new initiative for promotion of healthy living style. It aims to transform our students into a positive and radiating energy force to make the world a better place. Our whole person approach starts with helping students to discover their passions, dreams and sense of purpose in life so that they can form their own identity and develop a character of integrity and perseverance.

The House adopts a holistic three-pronged community approach by integrating three dimensions of “health and spiritual well-being”, “sports for life” and “go green and lead the society” to target the well-being of the body, mind and spirit of our students and encourage their contributions to the environment and society.

Health and Spiritual Well-being Relaxation workshops such as zendala workshop and mindfulness practice designed for strengthening and training for mind and body can be found here. You can also learn to eat wisely through joining our healthy cooking class.

Sports for Life Diversified sports activities such as Yoga Class, Multi-culturalism x Sports – Kabaddi and Sunny Relay Race are of- fered to promote healthy lifestyle and sports fun. To motivate students to establish routine exercise practice, certi- fied fitness trainers are stationed at our gymnasium to provide personal fitness advice and lead fitness class.

Go Green and Lead the Society Environmental conservation is an essential component of social responsibility. The College has thus been promot- ing green atmosphere to increase students’ sense of responsibility to the environment.

22 13. Green Activities

Acting out the College slogan “Go Green! Be Sunny!”, our College offers an array of green activities to raise students’ awareness on environmental protection. For instance, our College students formed a Green Team comprising of members committed to greening the College campus and promoting green messages to their peers, communities as well as the general public. Green Team has since its initiation been involved in organic farming at the rooftop garden of our College, and is actively involved in different green activities.

Past College Green Activities include:

Rooftop Farming At the College rooftop garden, Green Team harvested many tasty fruits and vegetables during the past years and shared with the College students the products of their hard work.

Dolphin-Watching Boat Trip A rare opportunity to learn to protect the sea, protect the environment, protect the world’s pinkest wild dolphins by understanding the threats these dolphins are facing every day, and self-reflecting what you can do to conserve the nature.

In Touch with Nature Hiking and Planting Day and Eco-Cultural Tours are some traditional ways of getting in touch with nature. Our Sun- nies experienced how their minds and bodies are immersed in nature in a more innovative way – horticultural therapy.

Hostel Free-cycling Event Held every year during hostel move-in and withdrawal periods, the event promotes the reuse of hostel items.
