The Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) is a supersonic stealth aircraft designed to replace a wide array of existing fi ghters.

The Panoramic Cockpit Display (PCD) subsystem for the F-35 delivers information on major functions such as fl ight and sensor displays, communication, radio and navigation systems as well as an identifi cation system which gives the pilot total situational awareness.

L-3 Communications Display Systems chose the DO-178B-certifi able LynxOS-178 (RTOS) to power a portion of the Panoramic Cockpit Display subsystem. Key fac- tors in L-3’s choice include LynxOS-178’s adherence to open standards, its Linux compatibility, the interoperability benefi ts of its POSIX API and support for the ARINC 653 specifi cation.

Example application: Hospital Wireless Sensor Application Proof-of-Concept

The Hospital Wireless Sensor Platform Proof-of-Concept (PoC) offers an alternative to the tangle of wires connected to the sensors on a patient’s body during vital-sign monitoring.

The PoC can connect to more than 25 Bluetooth-enabled wireless biometric sensors. The LynxSecure hypervisor from LynuxWorks securely manages Red Hat Linux® and Windows® XP operating systems running in separate partitions on a Portwell platform for data acquisition, processing and display.

Addressing the full range of requirements for robust wireless sensor medical applica- tions, the PoC combines state-of-the-art virtualization, remote management and hard- ware security on an advanced multicore processing platform.
