Cast Group: Welcome to Northallerton Gang Show 2009
TThhee 22000099 SSoonngg BBooookk Name: Contact Number: Group: Cast Group: Welcome to Northallerton Gang Show 2009 From all the production team on the Northallerton Gang Show, I'd like to welcome you to the greatest show on earth! The first Gang Show was performed 77 years ago in London. Ralph Reader was at the helm of the show and from then on the spectacle that is Gang Show has developed his ideals into individual shows around the world. Every night, somewhere in the world, someone is performing in a gang show! Gang Shows in our area are not uncommon. Great Smeaton Scout Group holds its own show in their meeting hall, and numerous other Scout and Guide groups present their own brand of show to help raise fund for their groups. So here we go with our third show in this Northallerton Gang Show run. The cast in the 2005 and 2007 shows made such an impact on the people who came to see the show, many of which came more than once to see it! During the show friendships and memories where forged that will never be broken; cast, crew and production team a like. Rachel, Helen, and I have all been involved with Middlesbrough Gang Show from 1992 onwards, both performing and helping backstage and have been at the helm of the Northallerton Gang Show since is renewal in 2005. But even more impressive is Reg, who is our Gang Show Chairman, was involved in several Gang Shows with Ralph Reader himself and still is involved with the London Gang Show fellowship. -

Fast Facts and Fun Trivia
Fast Facts and Fun Trivia ● The original book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car, published in 1964 with illustrations by John Burningham, was based on bedtime stories Ian Fleming told to his son, Caspar. ● The original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was first published as three separate books. ● Ian Fleming met Count Louis Zborowski when he was a schoolboy. ● The name and look of the car were taken from a series of racing cars built by Count Louis Zborowski in the early 1920s. ● The book inspired a 1968 movie written by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes, with songs by the Sherman brothers. It was directed by Ken Hughes and produced by Albert R. Broccoli, who was also a producer of the James Bond movies. It starred Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts and Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious. ● The role of Truly Scrumptious was reportedly offered to Julie Andrews, who had starred alongside Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, but Andrews, apparently feeling that the part was too close to the Poppins mold, declined. ● The movie’s title song was nominated for an Academy Award. ● Six versions of the car were built for the movie, and many replicas have been produced since. The car built for the stage production of the musical holds the record for the most expensive theater prop. ● One of the nondrivable Chitty Chitty Bang Bang cars went up for auction in 1973 in Florida and sold for $37,000. The prized drivable model sold for $805,000 in May 2011. ● Ian Fleming owned a Ford Thunderbird, which went very fast but didn’t quite fly. -

Though it is not a recent Disney hit or from a well-known children’s classic, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” playing now at the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis (CTA), has taken many audience members on a magical ride of creativity, imagination, and talent. Pilot-Earle Smith and Anya Langbeyer, playing siblings Jeremy and Jemimah Potts, led the catchy opening number supported with a smiling ensemble full of colorful costumes and lots of energy (costumes by Natasha Hitchcock and Leslie Rollins). The Smith-Langbeyer team spoke as they would in rural England in the early 20th century, but with great diction and enthusiasm, the children in the audience hung on every word. The pair’s rapport was so strong many were viewing their programs to see if the two really were related. ! …the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis (CTA), has taken many audience members on a magical ride of creativity, imagination, and talent. -
