325 September 12, 1928 On this the 12th day of September 1928 the Board of Trustees for the Arkansas State Teachers College met in the office of State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Hon. J.P.Womaolc, in the State Capitol in Mttle Rock with the following members present and voting: Womack, Williams, V/inham, Koon.ce. Dr. Torreyson and Colonel McAlister were also present. Minutes of the meeting of June 14th, 1928 were read and approved. President Torreyson presented the resignation of Dr. J.W. Diefendorf of the Education faculty and recommended the election of the following as members of the faculty: Mr. S.I.Laws, B.S. Missouri State Teachers College; A.M. University of Missouri, to be assistant a* Professor of 2ducation at a salary of $£400*00 a year, the salary to begin September 1, 1928 - to replace Dr. J.':;. Diefendorf, resiganec Mr. C.F.Sheley, A.B. University of Arizona; A.M.George Peabody College for Teachers, to be assistant professor of Foreign Languages at the salary of $2000.00 a year, the salary to begin September 1, 1928 - to replace Miss Lillian Benson, resigned. Mr. Austin Zander Slice, A.B. and A.M. University of Kansas, to be professor of History at the Salary of $800.00 a month, for nine months, beginning September 1, 1928 - to fill the vacancy for Professor D.D.McBrien who is on leave of absence Until July 1, 1929. Motion by Winham, seconded by Koonce that the resignation of Dr. Diefendorf be accepted and the three teachers recommended be elected as members of the faculty of the Arkansas State Teachers College. Motion carried. After a general discussion of the finances of the school and the ' Legislative program for relief the Board adjourned subject to the call of its president. ..
