The great and the good...

The club’s Annual Presentation night saw the ‘old guard’ begin to be challenged for the silverware by the newer, younger generation of Horsforth Harriers.

There were a total of 109 awards handed out (for details of who won what see a full breakdown inside) and while familiar names were on many of the plaques, it was encouraging to see the newer and younger contingent grabbing their share of the spoils.

Mark Bendall dominated at the men’s longer distances and ‘young’ Kevin Watson picked up four awards across the M50/M60 sections. Also in the prizes were Jonathan Ervine, Jim Hopkinson, Jon Pickering and Alan Squire, the latter claiming three awards for a season of fine performances.

For the ladies, Helen Barber and Marie Hart remained the women to beat but it was heartening to see the likes of Sarah Fotherby, Bev Chaplin, Marianne Rix, Tabby Tyler and Sarah Berry be Sarah Fotherby sets off on the 2005 Abbey Dash. This brings me nicely around to New York. 2005 was going to be a big year for the Foulkes household. Firstly, on October 29th and December 20th respectively my wife and wife and I would each reach the half century with 50th birthdays. In addition, on December 20th we would, some would argue, achieve a greater challenge than running a marathon by being married for 30 years. Not one, but three, excellent reasons to celebrate and so we decided that we would do three things in recognition of these three major milestones in our lives.
