Applying small area estimation (SAE) approach, in this paper we have generated estimates of the incidence of indebtedness among social groups across districts of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The findings show that the estimates from SAE are more precise and representative of the spatial heterogeneity in the socioeconomic conditions than do the direct survey estimates. Such estimates of spatial inequality in the incidence of indebtedness provide useful information to financial institutions to develop financial products and services suited to the marginalized regions and social groups; and to policymakers to take appropriate measures to address the problem of agrarian distress which is often attributed to the indebtedness. Laboratory Services 8.1 Haemoglobin Test ‐ State level As can be seen from the graph, hemoglobin test is being carried out at almost every FRU studied However, 10 percent medical colleges do not provide the basic Hb test. Division wise‐ As the graph shows, 96 percent of the FRUs on an average are offering this service, with as many as 13 divisions having 100 percent FRUs contacted providing basic Hb test. Hemoglobin test is not available at District Women Hospital (Mau), District Women Hospital (Budaun), CHC Partawal (Maharajganj), CHC Kasia (Kushinagar), CHC Ghatampur (Kanpur Nagar) and CHC Dewa (Barabanki). 132 8.2 CBC Test ‐ State level Complete Blood Count (CBC) test is being offered at very few FRUs. While none of the sub‐divisional hospitals are having this facility, only 25 percent of the BMCs, 42 percent of the CHCs and less than half of the DWHs contacted are offering this facility. Division wise‐ As per the graph above, only 46 percent of the 206 FRUs studied across the state are offering CBC (Complete Blood Count) test service. None of the FRUs in Jhansi division is having this service. While 29 percent of the health facilities in Moradabad division are offering this service, most others are only a shade better. Mirzapur (83%) followed by Gorakhpur (73%) are having maximum FRUs with this facility. Ghosh3 Abstract: The spatiotemporal variations of the drought scenario over the Bundelkhand region in central India have been studied using the standardized precipitation index (SPI) for the time scales of 3, 6, and 12 months. The space-time variability of the drought characteristics has been analyzed using the SPI, which is based only on long-term monthly rainfall data. From this analysis, it is determined that the frequency and severity of droughts have increased over the last decade in the Bundelkhand region and varied between once in 3 years and once in 5 years. The nonparametric Mann-Kendall test for trend analysis of climatic variables has been applied to investigate the regular occurrences of drought during the last few decades. The sign test indicates that there is a falling trend in the seasonal rainfall and number of rainy days in a few blocks.

Corresponding author : [email protected] Abstract Goat rearing is the traditional means of sustaining income, employment and family health among rural poorers. Now days goat rearing is emerge as a beneficial business among farmers. The goats are mostly rear in rainfed and undulated areas of country. Among these areas Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh and their district Jalaun is best suited for goat rearing due to their geographical situation. On this background a study regarding ground realities of goat keepers and goat keeping practices was plan during 2014. For this purpose Jalaun district was purposively selected and datas were collected form 120 goat keepers. The findings of the study show that majority of the goat keepers belong to backward class group. The literacy level was found high with average land holding 1.62 h. Goat rearing contribute about 20 percent contribution in total family income. The flock size was about 18 goats among marginal farmers which was just double from small, medium farmers group. The goat keepers having medium adoption level regarding improved practices of goat rearing. Goat keepers were poor in adopting health care hygiene and breeding related knowledge. The association between extent of adoption and attributes of goat keepers were found independent to each other.
