Yet when a child is fully included and she is the only child with a significant disability in her school, the social outcomes can be less than desirable. Too often children are alone with few friends and no one to hang out with. Jennifer Everett is a junior at Chattahoochee High School in Alpharetta, GA and like most girls wanted to go to Prom. She has always been “included” in school and so going wasn’t the issue but who to go with was. Her mother, Kathy asked her if she wanted to go with her sister, Sarah, a sophomore or a boy. Well, like most teenage girls, Jennifer quickly said a boy. Kathy quickly contacted a friend of Jennifer’s who enthusiastically said he would take her to Prom. This young man, Kyle Leighton is a Freshman at another school and yet he had no hesitation whatsoever about taking Jennifer to the dance. On August 5, 2007, Jacob Moore had his first piano concert for the Shriner’s Telethon in Rome, Georgia. Jacob performed seven songs including “Pop Goes the Weasel”, “Yankee Doodle”, etc. He wowed the audience that he had only been playing the piano since January of this year! Jacob has been receiving music therapy since he was 3 months old. Music has taught him everything from his first sign language signs to playing the bells and piano. Jacob was given an honorary Shriner pin to recognize his accomplishments. He has even been asked to perform again next year. The excitement built for both as they shopped for the beautiful gown and tuxedo. The night of the big event, their parents could not have been more proud of both of them for different reasons. They attended the dance at the Georgia Aquarium where they danced with each other and where Kyle made friends with some others while Jennifer danced with other friends from school. Kyle commented that Jennifer knows everyone at school from all of the differ- ent groups like jocks, Goths and Latinos. He loves her dearly and was so glad to see that so many other people love her, too. Jennifer was not too happy when the dance was over but Kathy knows that her Senior Prom will be just as exciting and fun for everyone. Music has opened up so many doors for Jacob and he has been able to show society his true potential given the right resources. We will keep you posted on Jacob’s upcoming concerts! Freeman, PhD, Department of Human Genetics Times Square ([email protected]) Present and Future Here are the latest statistics for the Emory Down Syndrome Clinic. From the clinic’s incep- tion in January 2003 through July 2007 we have seen 281 families. In addition to the initial visits, families are returning to clinic on a yearly basis (6 months basis for the first year), and we delight in watching the children whom we initially saw as infants grow into active toddlers and preschoolers with personalities of their own. Most of our families come from metropoli- tan Atlanta, but our uniqueness as a clinic specifically for children with Down syndrome means that we regularly draw families from more distant counties.

A Different Kind of Fatigue: A Cross-cultural Analysis of the Etiology of Burnout in Medical Literature by Jessica Tran A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Microbiology (Honors Scholar) Honors Baccalaureate of Arts in English (Honors Scholar) Honors Baccalaureate of Arts in International Studies in Microbiology (Honors Scholar) Presented March 14th, 2016 Commencement June 2016 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Jessica Tran for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Microbiology, Honors Baccalaureate of Arts in English, and Honors Baccalaureate of Arts in International Studies in Microbiology presented on March 14th, 2016. Title: A Different Kind of Fatigue: A Cross-cultural Analysis of the Etiology of Burnout in Medical Literature Abstract approved: _____________________________________________________ Raymond Malewitz The rate of physician dissatisfaction is steadily rising. Between 2011 and 2012, the number of physicians that would not choose a career in medicine if given the opportunity to decide again increased by 15% (Adams). This discontentment has major repercussions in the midst of the rising need for physicians: it is estimated that by 2025, there will be a physician deficit of 90,000 (Bernstein). One reason for the increasing dissatisfaction is burnout, which physician Richard Gunderman defines as “emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a diminished sense of accomplishment.” Although Gunderman identifies the etiology of dissatisfaction, he fails to characterize burnout and explain where and why this phenomenon occurs. In this paper, I use Raymond Williams’ theory on “structures of feeling” as a lens to identify the characteristics and etiology of burnout.

Scrubs(series) - The Free Online Dictionary and Encyclopedia (TFODE) 11/21/13 7:56 AM Scrubs(series) - 2 results found: Wikipedia, twitter Pronunciation - English Wikipedia Scrubs (TV series) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Scrubs(series)) Scrubs is an American medical comedy-drama television series created by Bill Lawrence that aired from October 2, 2001 to March 17, 2010 on NBC and later ABC. The series follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart teaching hospital. The title is a play on surgical scrubs and a term for a low-ranking person because at the beginning of the series, most of the main characters were medical interns. The series features fast-paced screenplay, slapstick, and surreal vignettes presented mostly as the daydreams of the central character, Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, who is played by Zach Braff. Actors starring alongside Braff in the first eight seasons included Sarah Chalke Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes. The series has also featured multiple guest appearances by film actors, such as Brendan Fraser, Heather Graham, and Colin Farrell. In the ninth season, many new cast members were introduced and the show setting moved from a hospital to a medical school. Out of the original cast, only Braff, Faison and McGinley became regular cast members while the others, with the exception of Reyes, made guest appearances. Braff appeared in six episodes of the ninth season before departing. Kerry Bishé, Eliza Coupe, Dave Franco, and Mosley became series regulars with Bishé becoming the show's new narrator.

  • My Musical« Musikalisches Erzählen Am Beispiel Von SCRUBS Sebastian Stoppe (Leipzig)
Andere Serien verwenden musikalisches Erzählen hingegen bewusst parodistisch. In mehreren Folgen von THE SIMPSONS (USA 1989-) etwa werden konkrete Musicals parodiert (z.

  • Tv Medical Dramas: Health Care As Soap Opera
TV MEDICAL DRAMAS: HEALTH CARE AS SOAP OPERA LESLEY HENDERSON ‘Medicine is drama, doctors are human, and patients are trouble or troubled’.1 he medical drama occupies an extraordinary position in contemporary Ttelevision. The format attracts multiple awards (ER became the most nominated series in TV history, earning 122 Emmy nominations and 22 Awards) and breaks new ground in television aesthetics (St Elsewhere popularised pedeconferencing – the ‘walk and talk’ tracking shot to signify the supposedly frenetic pace of hospital life). The genre is economically important, too, as medical dramas consistently attract large audiences with ‘gold dust’ demographics for advertisers – the notoriously elusive 18-49 years. These programmes deliver high drama but also convey important messages about health and illness, often highlighting political issues which are neglected in television news and documentary formats. Thus the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan – underreported by the US news media – was brought to ER viewers through characters Dr John Carter and Dr Gregory Pratt, who were depicted working in a refugee camp trying to protect their patients from the Janjaweed militia (series 12, 2006). As these fictional scenes were being transmitted to global audiences, George Clooney – formerly ER’s Dr Doug Ross – spoke out at public rallies to stimulate support for American intervention in Darfur, thus blurring the lines between drama and the material world still further.2 Shows such as House MD are dissected in meticulous detail by fans and medical professionals on websites filled with endless analysis of the plausibility of plot and procedure.3 The medical drama is a commercial product that not only reflects our socio-cultural and economic environment but also illuminates wider changes in broadcasting culture.

TV LAND GETS ITS “SCRUBS” ON AND GOES ON ROUNDS DURING A LABOR DAY MARATHON ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 New York, NY, August 25, 2008 - TV Land’s got just what the doctor ordered with a prescription sure to tickle the funny bone when “Scrubs” premieres on Labor Day with a 7-hour marathon on Monday, September 1. Join J.D., Turk, Elliot, Carla, Dr. Cox and the entire Sacred Heart Hospital staff beginning at 4 p.m. (ET/PT) as they heal patients, mend broken hearts and keep viewers in stitches. “Scrubs” joins TV Land’s line-up in its regularly scheduled timeslot of 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) from Monday to Friday beginning Tuesday, September 2. “‘Scrubs’ is the perfect contemporary acquisition for TV Land as the network continues to grow as the ultimate entertainment network for people in their 40s and 50s,” states Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and the entire cast is at their comedic best and their neurotic and side-splitting antics keep viewers laughing all night long. The quick-wit and humor of this series definitely appeals to our audience, and it is precisely the reason why TV Land voted it the winner of the 2001 Future Classic Award.” “Scrubs” follows the dynamic daily routines and bizarre happenings of the Sacred Heart hospital staff. Having premiered in October 2001, the series continues to be a prime time network hit as John “J.D.” Dorian (Zach Braff) narrates the everyday personal and professional challenges that he and surgical intern and college buddy Chris Turk (Donald Faison) and the ambitious yet quirky intern Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke) face.
